Also still a special thank you to DiMiaN who's added another 10$ to the prizepool.
This Tuesday, there will most likely be another cast by BisuDagger (if he still wants to) since there's still plenty of exciting games that weren't casted today.
edit: Also apologies to lalord who was really down on his luck and was knocked out of the tournament by an unlucky coin toss after being unable to play his game against mcsQ.
Finally, I hope everyone enjoyed their games despite the initial bracket confusion.

This should not be an issue since players can update the scores and upload the replays themselves.

I think Sunday 18:00 CEST is not the best time for start of the tour, cuz its double elimination with bo3, bo5 and bo7 (it's like 8 hours minimum for all games). I suggest to make it on Saturday same time or at least few hours earlier on Sunday. It will be really hard to play for someone who needs to go at work Monday (including me ) Anyway thanks for the tournament!
|
Thank you for the suggestion Dewaltoss.
The winner of the tournament will have to play a maximum of 19 games. With an average of 20 minutes per game, I think this will amount to around 6 or 6.5 hours, which is indeed quite long.
I'm not going to move the tournament anymore, but if it's getting late we could definitely consider deferring the finals (bo7) to another day. There won't be any loss of interest since it's only the finals and it still determines who wins the prize pool, and it might also allow the 2 finalists to be at the best of their game without being fatigued.

that would be amazing, 1 week to hype the finals, and also giving the players a few more days to practice specific match up is going to make the games more interesting.

Agree, it is a good idea to play finals 1 week later.

mb better to use defiler.ru tourney system? random bracket + replays
|
The bracket will be randomized before starting the tournament. Replays can and must be uploaded as well, there will be a paperclip next to the scores that allows you to add attachments.
I wanted to test out challonge for this one tournament, if it doesn't prove to work very well, we can decide to switch to the defiler.ru tournament system for future tournaments.
Finally, 24 out of 32 slots are currently filled. Still room for 8 more people!
|
Public announcement: We're getting closer to the tournament date. None of the tournament favourites are practicing the new maps so it is definitely possible to cause an upset
Still room for 6 more people as well so sign up!!
|
Check-in starts in 50 minutes (challonge.com)! Official iCCup channel is "op CrispyCup". Bracket will be randomized right before the start at 6 PM CEST.

nice tour, i caught some of the cast earlier finals to be played next sunday?
|
Losers Final and Grand Final are yet to be played. Probably will happen next sunday in the evening, but if I remember correctly Crispy/B-royal wanted to check with the three remaining players (and maybe CatsPaw that did a great job solo casting for hours!!!) if the time is ok for them before announcing a specific time.
|
GG team Netwars! Top3: Trutacz, Bonyth and I. :D
We'll align on time to play finals.

I missed this , damn good tour crispy well done.

More games/casts on Sivery Waves, please!

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Since this was the first edition, inextricably there would be some issues. It didn't help that we were with only 2 admins to handle everything.
There were 4 big issues in my opinion:
- Bracket confusion: I mistakenly let people start their games before removing the people that didn't check-in. Since it was double elimination, it would not have been easy to just give walkovers to people.
- People playing the wrong maps
One of the rules was that people were not allowed to choose their maps in a series. There was a predetermined order of the maps.
Since people were already playing games, I decided to ignore this rule. I'm not sure which one of the options is the best for future tournaments. On one hand I think it's a good thing to allow players to choose their map, it adds an extra level of strategy. But on the other hand, I think people will almost never choose the unfamiliar maps such as silvery waves, which is disappointing.
- People not uploading their replays (properly)
Especially Koget forgot to upload all of his replays.
- Not having the correct BOs for losers bracket.
I hadn't investigated closely enough how double elimination actually works. I didn't specify the BOs for the loser bracket, so I had to improvise and chose bo3s for almost all of the rounds.
So Freakling, I only have 5 replays on Silvery waves, when there should have been 8+. Sorry for that

You shouldn`t had removed those who didn`t check-in, in order to not to confuse the bracket itself, as happened. As a suggestion before making a tour you should test the system you are going to use to avoid problems. If that site doesn`t remove the ones not checked in, or there isn`t an option to to do it, then probably it isn`t worth working with. I can`t recall which sites I used, but they`re probably down anyway, so I can`t help you with this one.
On October 04 2016 09:54 B-royal wrote: - People playing the wrong maps
It crossed my mind that you thought the maps should be used this way, altough I wasn`t sure. As a used to be tour organizer, I`d say if you plan on deviating from the standard (ie: loser chooses the map) you have to make it absolutely clear and simple what you mean/want. Thanks for the tour, it was fun.

I just came back home. Sorry to hear! Yes that is fine, as long as it gets played and we can get a stream going I'm still happy...

We've agreed with Trutacz to play it today, around 21 CET. Anyone willing to stream? (or Trutacz and I can live stream mb)

Congratz trutacz for 1st place! Congratz koget for 2nd place!
I thoroughly enjoyed the cup!
|
I would like to point out that postponing the finals wasnt successful. Less people watched the most important games of tournament. Maybe bit earlier hour or start for next time, or single elimination could be better. Also i would like to say about maps. I enjoyed playing on heartbeat and overwatch, missed fb or cb tho, and hated silvery waves. I hope next time we can get some standard maps + maybe some new or old maps, but known. Anyway..
Thanks for organizing it, for those who donated, for cats for casting and everyone else involved. To sum up it was good tour even tho not everything was perfect.

Silvery Waves could use a bit refinement (like the egg was put there by the author to allow the terran wall in KogeT made, right? Why else place the egg?) Personally I wouldn't discard it yet. I'd like to see it in the next tournament and see if it can season into something decent or not. If anything I loved not seeing FS n CB in the map pool for a change.
|
I would vote for Single elimination for next tournament, and maybe bo1 early bracket just to speed it up a bit.

The best time to cast a final should be on a saturday/sunday after dinner around 19-20 CET

Live casting can be really hype, but it just as easy can kill any hype during undetermined down times and extra weary on the caster. If the results can stay hidden to anyone but the players and organizer, I think it would be nice to have casts from replays instead for the next tournament. With possibly a live cast for the final.

Congratulations finalists! Your winnings have been sent to you. If you have not received them please notify me immediately. Thank you.

great tour, great effort. Thx to everybody who helped and to Crispydrone!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I will definitely try to take these into consideration so we can improve the second edition. One final note from myself though is that the peculiar map pool is here to stay, as I consider it one of the characteristics that will define the Crispy Cup. I do understand complaints from some players though and will incorporate 2 actual familiar maps next time.
Congratulations to Trutacz for winning the first edition of the Crispy Cup and to KogeT for coming in second.
Thanks again to everyone who participated, and to iloveav and BisuDagger for casting. Also special thank you to everyone who helped and contributed to the organization in any shape or form including Toastus and DiMiaN.
Finally, here's an updated replay pack. Download here.

thnx for hosting crispy :D

Thanks for watching Dragon. Hope to see you in the next one.
I'm currently in the process of writing a liquipedia page which you can find here Crispy Cup. It is going decent but I have a few issues, if anyone can and is willing to help me with this, please PM me.
|
I will upload the videos form the cast to my Youtube channel (started it today so have to work to do). Let me know if you have any specific details for the video (like a link to this thread in the video description for example).
|
Sure a link to the liquipedia page would be great iloveav

Thanks for hosting and the contribution, but doesn't it seem a little skewed to have a tournament ranging from C to A rank? There is a huge discrepancy between C and A rank players, I personally would enjoy more of a C to B- / B range tournaments to be honest. Nevertheless, thanks for the contribution!

I don't want to discriminate against lower rank players, but my interests lie with seeing the best players compete as I love seeing high level matches.
I included C ranks because of a few reasons:
- to not exclude players who are clearly above C rank but haven't played enough games from competing
- there aren't that many B/A rank players to begin with and the timing of the tournament might not suit them
- not everyone plays in a tournament solely to win the prize pool

Plus tournament experience from a true C player is huge. Even if they lose right away, its great practice and motivation.
