It's kinda funny that you mention this, because that's what got corrupted. The server froze out of no where and the next reboot half of our /var filesystem was corrupted. "....out of no where" But I think it's because their ISP is hosting their server on a Dell™.

What caused the server to reboot...? Is it just a bad hardware crash? 2 possibilities left: 1) HD fault (we did a full system swap, except for HD, few months ago hoping it would stop but it didn't) 2) Power supply not powerful enough when system load is high (but unlikely) It reboots randomly like this for awhile but on the last reboot, all files that were in use got deleted (many files in /var, a lot of tables got emptied in iour database, etc...)

I know what kind of machine is running the server, and Its possible that for a back up task the time needed is under 15 seconds. (doing right of course). 2 years ago, 1 of our HD where BBDD were running (MS SQL 2000) simply crash and our server admins didn´t got any kind of procedure to avoid the data lost. After this, and with a huge trouble to deal, we just demand to our servers providers the RIGHT of to get our datas totally protected against hardware failures. Maybe is time to change your server provider Pat

Maybe is time to change your server provider Pat Most hosting providers charge extra to perform backups, we decided not to pay that extra cost, which means we are responsible for taking backups. Backing up the database took about 10 minutes, and would cause the server load to go very high thus lagging up the whole server including BNet-X, which is why we decided not to perform database backups. Once we get everything back up, we certainly learned from this bad experience and will take backups by tar'ing the appropriate folders found in /var, which will be much faster than using mysqldump.
