Doesn't work that way. When mysqldump backups a table, it does "lock table <table>" first. Because of this, all the processes/threads using that table (mainly the Bnet-x server if it's a table the server uses) suddenly deadlock since they need the table lock to get cleared. I don't know if a binlog isn't enough to backup a database, I know that you can backup it by copying the files but you might lose some table integrity if the table is modified in the meanwhile (still, I think that's better - you lose only a little portion of data instead of everything).

If you know this guy, and simply want to tell him to be more tactful in using sarcasm, then just use the post message system. Do not chew him out on the forum, and say you are going to write a letter to his superiors; it makes it seem like you are trying to act like a big-time boss, which just seems stupid when it is about starcraft.

As others have stated, backing up a database so large so often would lag the server incredibly. I mean, would you like to server to go down at least once a day for back-ups? I wouldn't.

Same here. And no backup at least once weekly is kinda rudiculous I think, but please try to make a good lesson now and never make same mistake, then nobody would complain again, for sure.
Anyway, nobody tried to answer question repeated few times already: whats ETA to see PGTour working once again? Whats main problem to relaunch at least bnet-x server? If you cant revive part of database including stats, would be problem to use just previous points/rank with no stats at all?
And no, I'm not whining, I enjoy PGTour and I'd love to see it back asap, just give us some ETA so we can wait patiently .
