The database is actually just the files in /var/lib/mysql (or wherever they're stored). If the filesystem gets corrupted, so do the files. Buggy HDD? | ||

(doing right of course). 2 years ago, 1 of our HD where BBDD were running (MS SQL 2000) simply crash and our server admins didn´t got any kind of procedure to avoid the data lost. After this, and with a huge trouble to deal, we just demand to our servers providers the RIGHT of to get our datas totally protected against hardware failures. What you mean ?" Doesn't work that way. When mysqldump backups a table, it does "lock table <table>" first. Because of this, all the processes/threads using that table (mainly the Bnet-x server if it's a table the server uses) suddenly deadlock since they need the table lock to get cleared. I don't know if a binlog isn't enough to backup a database, I know that you can backup it by copying the files but you might lose some table integrity if the table is modified in the meanwhile (still, I think that's better - you lose only a little portion of data instead of everything). | ||

We have just finished tweaking our server, now we are focusing on recovering the most we can from our old database backups. We have not lost any of the stats or ratings. We've lost a lot of the match reports, all the teams, and all the polls. We were able to recover some of the teams using our previous backup and same for the polls. We are working as hard as we can to get PGTour back up. | ||

Our hard drive died, so we lost a lot of the database. We've been busy recovering as much as possible from old backups. Just as we were getting ready to open the site back up, we noticed that all the forum posts were lost. So we quickly closed the site back, and we are attempting to recover as many forum topics as possible. We could just say "whatever.. these people don't deserve it" and just put empty forums, but we care about PGTour.net and our visitors. You may think we're just playing with you guys with these "be back in 2 hours", but we're not. sry but i think cr1s real stupid... TT HaHa.. Your a very funny guy... Please respect Chr1s because if anyone can get PGTour back up and running, it's Chr1s. I'm talking to him all the time and he's always busy trying to recover something. He's more than capable of doing the job and he's doing it well, he doesn't need someone criticizing and insulting him for doing what he needs to do. | ||
