When you open 12-hatch vs 12-pool, and your opponent makes a sunken, it seems to me the "logical" strategy is to keep the same number of lings(or even less), drone up, and get that 2nd gas up earlier or even add enough drones to eventually get a 3rd hatch. When your opponent invest so much in defense, this seems the most natural transition. Small econ advantage in ZvZ generally can turn into a win if you don't screw up. Trying to mass lings and sunken break seems in my mind the worst possible way to play it. Yet I see it all the time at the progame level.

Also with the exception of woojin zerg and Great. Most z don't want to go late game. they will take the win at the earliest opportunity.

Not sure what larva count has to do with anything. 12-hatch inherently gives you what, 2-3 extra larva? Not making a sunken gives you another one. So that's at least 3 extra larva you have for free. If you turn that into 6 lings, you see what happens in that last game, where the sunken kills the lings and everything returns to equality. Turn that into 3 drones, and that's either quicker 2nd gas or if you go into mid-game, 3 extra drones on mineral which means more muta vs scourge. And this type of play doesn't imply late-game ZvZ. Mid-game is all about the muta count, since scourge vs progamer micro with high muta count becomes almost useless.

Bogus and Hoejja are in form and Hyuk has been progressing in indiv leagues of late. But of course, there's no doubt that he's slumping. Edit: Hmm... I just remembered that Lazy rolled Hoejja 2-0 at the OSL prelims. So yup, Tyson is really not doing well.

But there is a very interesting article here on TL a while back that explain "how to watch ZvZ". You can search for it. edit: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=193354
