I've been playing against my friend who plays as Zerg, and I usually choose Terran vs Zerg, because I think it's much easier than Protoss vs Zerg (though I am a Protoss player by nature). I'm having trouble finding the right times to expand though, and the proper way to secure them against harrassment. You might say, "Expand when necessary and convenient. Put up bunkers and turrets." That's all well and good, but there is the matter of placement and such. Do you typically keep your buildings close together so that muta harrass isn't as much of a problem? Do you keep your bunkers filled, or just a couple marines in them?

In a completely different area, I'd like to compile a bunch of games that show off the various matchups, ie I'd download replays of Boxer vs Yellow, Boxer vs any Zerg for that matter, Nada vs Protoss, and so forth, and then compile them into one archive. Then I will analyze them and throw them up on the net. Would anyone be interested in helping, either compiling the replay packs, or analyzing the reps? I guess this would be considered a sort of "strategy guide". Wow, thanks Meat. I actually did not know this. I didn't see it on the left, and so didn't see it at all.

Edit: Keep in mind this post is a general when-to-expand time and such, not a "fast expand" like the other one. I just noticed that was up there (never having seen this forum, I didn't realize there might be other stuff here already).

i don't know if you should ever expand against a zerg when you're terran unless it's a fair game and your base is in danger of running out or you feel you are behind and need to take a huge dumb risk as the very last ditch to get them game for yourself

what i mean is that you should be pressuring zerg to know how many units they are really making, how many sunken, ling, drone, how late gas, etc. maybe you should try 9 rax 10 depot 10 rax rally to him and bunker, if he brings drones fight the drones with no losses run away but get the bunker finished (bring more scvs if necessary or worthwhile, most likely it will be). you should be able to stop his expand and take him off his game. even if you don't you are fine, get aca stim etc fast and then you get to kill him again unless he has lots of sunkens or owns your micro or whatever.

if you can expand against a zerg you are probably good enough to kill them before you could ever be better off expasnding, maybe once in a while a special case goes against this but most playrers you are playing against this is true. if you get into a longer game against a zerg it becomes you 2 base defending and raiding most likely and understanding where/when to raid based on the zerg's strategy/units/placement, deciding to push or drop, deciding if the flank is safe, deciding how to delay their naked exp attempts, and so on.

and yeah ppl use bunkers well-placed to help against muta or lurker drop. i wish u luck in finding replays to best show you these things, maybe some skyinthesea tvz or something.

you can still have enough m&m to pressure a zerg while expanding,the way i've seen Aquarius and iloveoov do it (successfully,vs progamer zergs) was that when they expanded at about the same time their cc finished they had a control group of marines and like 2,possibly 4 medics,then used 2 scanners to keep tabs on the zerg.

meanwhile the group of m&m to prevent any expanding,fast lurker drops on your main and on your cliff(on lt you should know where an overlord would drop from,just keep an scv or something patrolling that area,if you see a overlord,kill it with your m&m)

I don't know the exact build order,check a rep for that,but i know it works.

Thanks Trance, I appreciate it. I think T definitely has to expand, unless they're planning on rushing, and then if they fail the rush, then they're pretty much lost. Z just expands too much, and you can't easily one-base a three-based Zerg, Stimey.

Yes, there's a build order that allows you to expand while having enough units to fend off. but you want scout before doing so. by the time he finishes expanding you'll start doing yours. it's somewhere in that time phrase. make sure the you can support yourself well before doing this expansion. i don't know exactly what the build order is but try finding it in replays
