Gaema Gowon is a legendary map that came out in 2002 and that was used on WGT, PGT, Iccup, as well as OGN Starleague.
Gaema Gowon is a micro-orientated map where it is incredibly difficult to expand. It is a one-of-a-kind kind of map that opens the door to unusual 1v1 builds and unusual 2v2 race combinations.
I know this map is imbalanced as hell, but isn't it a legendary map in the history of Broodwar? I have heard a lot of A+ old school players say it is one of there most memorable maps of all time.
PvT= Doable for both races, but the focus is on one-basing and micro, not macro. PvZ= Doable for both races, but the Protoss has to 1base since he can't fast expand. Protoss has to play old-school builds. TvZ= Zerg can't win. He has to 3hatch to cover the backdoor. Double expanding isn't as viable versus Terran IMO.
In 2vs2, ZZ teams are strongly disadvantaged on Gaema Gowon. To make up for this however, TP & PP teams are more playable on this map compared to any Iccup Map. TP and PP suck on all Iccup maps because any team with a Zerg can expand to be ahead.
PZvsTZ on this map is epic. It is 100% a micro game and it is incredibly difficult to expand at all for a long time. PZvsPZ on this map is more fun because cannon ally builds for fast Mutalisks is an actually good build. Your opponents can't counter this build by both fast expanding. Etc. PP and TP is viable, but ZZ is not.
In conclusion, I would say this map is in some regards more balanced than Iccup maps in the 2v2 mode but ZZ can't win. 1v1 is too imbalanced because Zerg can't win against Terran on this map. This is certainly a 2v2 map.

gaema had plenty of amazing games and i really liked the map, one of my favs of that era... im not sure its a total classic though, with the way modern bw is played some of the matchups are probably extremely difficult on it
It could definitely use a remake too...didn't look too closely before but like gas placements, ramps, etc..I know they hadn't discovered it at the time but hmmm....remaking this...maybe when Im bored...
This was one of my favourite maps back in the day, it probably wouldn't be balanced at all but if it was possible to get some kind of updated version of it I would definitely play it.

It's Gaema. A hard 'k' sound would use ㅋ instead.
This map owned and it was one of my favorites. It was close enough to Lost Temple that I could still find public games on it, but it was popular enough in the pro and progaming-fan circles that I could always get good private practice games on it too. 2v2s were really fun on it too. At the time, it had a pretty good race balance record as well.
