then again the real problem is the bnet interface rendering, which is a massive involvement.
but also...even if a "ddraw.dll" like solution solves the bnet problem (and everything else) it will still remain, "banned" from the official servers.

edit: This is how I play SC BW online.

1. I installed debian with just the base system, then install what I need.
2. Installed a VM with xP in virtualbox. Now, since the linux kernel includes most drivers, I don't need to look for anything, just install a package of virtualbox.
3. Install SC BW.
4. Play online.

You can change your default screen resolution to 640x480, so that when you open the game in the VM, it is actually in full screen mode. I do it before starting the X server, every time i want to play.

Seriously, there are few games you can't play on linux, using ether wine of a VM. SC BW and SC2 can both be played perfectly using just wine (but B.net interface looks really bad in BW, with overlapping text and staff, that's why I use a VM).

But, of course, most games require some workaround.

I tried almost every patch I could find to make StarCraft work not slow (DIB engine f.e.) with my Linux, but none worked. I also tried the VirtualBox solution, but couldn't be fucked to switch the resolution myself, thats like playing with Win7 in compatibility mode, just annoying.

Do you own a copy of WinXP? Not everyone does and not everyone wants to pirate it, so you shouldn't imply that people are incompetent just because they don't want to pirate WinXP.

(You set the affinity (aka core) by right clicking the .exe in task manager)

On Win 7 x64

~~ You can restart the explorer or sidebar if you want to by ctrl + alt + deleting and going to file -> run and typing the name of the exe's (ex: explorer.exe)
