That hotfix does nothing for DDraw, All it does is remove 1 possible reason for a freeze where d2d/d3d (WLM2011 or firefox 4) is used in apps , it does nothing for mixing gdi applications. (Firefox 3/ WLM2009)[/QUOTE] Seeing your deep commitment to that matter on many forums I'm sorry to say that you're wrong. I don't know why - but it DOES HELP. No freezes after this fix at all. I've tested it on 4 machines already. Maybe check it out yourself. I'm not the first one who says it worked. Maybe that fix does something more. Whatever it does - it fixed my BW for good.

http://www.2shared.com/file/6KseyP7v/ddhack.html This should fix color problem and freeze problem. This ddraw.dll is a modified version of cnc-ddraw hack from here: http://hifi.iki.fi/cnc-ddraw/ The cnc--ddraw had some issues with keyboard mapping and some mouse freeze in sc. I fixed them, rebuild, and here it is. Have fun!

I know about ddhack10 too, but cnc-ddraw is better. It has support for GDI, not only for OpenGl, as ddhack10 does. ddhack10 is very sluggish in starcraft because of opengl backend. The fix I uploaded here is configured to work on GDI, because opengl is sluggish on cnc-ddraw too. I don't know why..

FALSE. OpenGL has nothing to do with it. The game expects a gameupdate based framerate, which can go as high as 300fps with enough screen updates. and having vsync enabled @ 60hz causes the game to only appear sluggish for this very reason. cncddraw uses a different update system which doesn't have the same sluggishness, but at the expense of high cpu usage. There is no performant difference between opengl and gdi with cncddraw, any problems you've found are caused by your local system setup and hardware capabilities. The mouse freeze was due to the mouse offset hack which was enabled by default. in essence all you've done is changed the default configuration and claimed to have fixed stuff.

Have you even tried it? It fixes the key mappings, aka you can do control groups. With raw cnc-draw you can't use control groups. I tried to use it in wine, and it doesn't reset the screen resolution if you close broodwar (with few other fixable problems), so unfortunately I still have to do a WinXP dual boot.

i've already tweaked cnc-ddraw here (3 months ago or so): http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=229044 it should have a safer exit i.e. reset resolution on exit. (?), enable all keys..etc --- then again the real problem is the bnet interface rendering, which is a massive involvement. but also...even if a "ddraw.dll" like solution solves the bnet problem (and everything else) it will still remain, "banned" from the official servers. this right here (which WhuazGoodJaggah started) might be a good temporary alternative (where w-mode is not sluggish): http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=10634026

Sure. I'm smart enough to know how to use google. edit: This is how I play SC BW online. 1. I installed debian with just the base system, then install what I need. 2. Installed a VM with xP in virtualbox. Now, since the linux kernel includes most drivers, I don't need to look for anything, just install a package of virtualbox. 3. Install SC BW. 4. Play online. You can change your default screen resolution to 640x480, so that when you open the game in the VM, it is actually in full screen mode. I do it before starting the X server, every time i want to play.

This. i find it interresting that people can sit in front of their computer all day and play but dont bother to find out how to make stuff work or figure out workarounds.
