The fast fix is like this
1) Open command prompt as administrator.
2) Make sure you are on your partition drive(usually C .
3) Type in: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
4) Then go to your run textbox at the start menu and type in msconfig.
5) Disable UAC in your tools tab.
6) If all that didn't work then put your SC installation in a different folder than program files and it should still run. Enjoy.

You are vulnerable to several different errors because of the systems that 7 and Vista have in place. You have to disable them for SC to run. I've delt with the same crap a thousand times.

i have trouble with windows 7 bw, but it never crashed
the only problems i have are the colors that are messed up outsider of games, but in games the colors are usually fixed, so BW has never really been a problem for me
but this is obviously some conflict in the programming; is there any easy way to fix this?
if you have a decent solution PM me the post please cause i might forget abotu this thread :D

Works for more than just SCBW, I can personally confirm that it works for Age of Empires 2 as well.

You could just use window mode in chaoslauncher or iccuplauncher.

And how to integrate this with...ICCUP?

Extract and double click. It should fix color issues.

I've heard form friends with Windows 7 that running the game in windowed solves the problem. I've also heard that while in fullscreen you cna simply go to the ingame options menu and disable colour cycling and that should be it. This is for crashes , I don't know about colour.

Windowed mode definitely fixes all issues. But many don't like it 'cause it's inconvenient to play. You can make it playable by right clicking the Chaoslauncher (or ICCup launcher) icon and choose "Run in 640x480" mode. It's still takes little getting used to, but not so much ^^

In windowed mode, you can also toggle the x2 modifier, it makes the windowed mode 1280x960, but takes more system resources to run.

I don't know what kind of crap i got on my pc while doing this, but the 'registery file' did nothing, the 'patch' did fix it somewhat. Yeah, somewhat. Now the colors are sometimes messed up; they apear good but slowly mess themselves up once people for instance join and leave a channel.

The screen would just freeze in the middle of a game and I would have to turn my whole laptop off and start it on again. I used wmode and have never had a single crash problem or color problem since. I think once you set up your screen resolution there isn't really anything to get used too. Korean is broken on it but I rarely talk in game anyways and I usually ask obs to use ally chat so it doesn't really affect me. Korean works in the bnet channels anyways.
I actually tried wmode on all my other friend's laptops and not a single one had a problem after using it. It really doesn't take anything to get used to. You just have to change your resolution each time you play which isn't really that tedious to do.

This is indeed the best option.
1) right click on chaoslauncher/iccuplauncher and go to compatibility options and check 'run in 640 * 480)
2) check windows mode in the launcher
does anyone know where i can find the shortcuts for windows mode? (eg: keep mouse in sc, double resolution etc) I searched but i can't find them.

(this is most important while playing in wmode. It keeps your mouse locked in SC while in game so you can scroll the screen with the mouse.)
- ALT - Temporarily inverts the current state of cursor clip while it is held down.
- ALT+F9 - Toggle doublesize mode.
- ALT+F10 - Enables/disables moving the StarCraft window.
- ALT+F11 - Turn on/off always-on-top mode.
- ALT+F12 - Enables/disables all buttons on the caption of the sc window.

OMG!
Someone tested this already? If this works..... I think I might tear up.
edit: also DanyalDenyo, epic 1st post in 7 years lol!

Just wanted to say that I had this problem for quite a few months and found no permanent solution to the crashes, despite following this thread and attempting a bunch. Ended up doing the turn off colour cycling option (as well as passing it along to a few friends) and I/we haven't had the problem since. Thank ye kindly everybody.

Does this also fix the color issue?
