about posting when you dont know what you're talking about
its not a good idea

i know people who live in these, the majority of them still go to school.

how is it not comparable to high school or college sports? yes professionals get paid. high school and college athletes dont, or arent legally allowed to. these guys are not professionals, so they dont get paid. pro gamers do get paid, even the low level ones. at what point is it not comparable?

given your past posts you have a tendency to lie and exaggerate about your connections with koreans. (joined gm yet?) but even if you do know paul, your source of information is someone bitter about attempting progaming and not making it. perhaps not the most objective perspective? ya, alot of them arent gonna make it. so? what has it cost them? time spent playing a game? a couple hundred bucks? the horror! most people spend time and money on their hobbys, most hobbys have far less potential for a future than even the 1 in a million chance at being the next nada.

Athletes don't train 11 hours a day. It isn't taking up their entire life, so its not comparable at all. Obviously you personally don't like anyone saying its 'sad' or pointless because you are doing it, but really disconnecting yourself from all normal life to play a game every day is pretty pathetic in most peoples eyes, even if there's a very slim chance you could one day get paid to do it.

You know nothing of sports.

Furthermore, the premise that you should never do anything you enjoy unless you're gonna be a pro (which you can't know off the bat anyways) at it or earn lots of money is nothing short of foolish. If everyone had that mentality there would be no human progress.

Go ahead, do something you enjoy. But spending your entire waking life doing it is a different matter. If you are going to do that then yes you should expect some reward from that effort.

If you want to believe its some epic quest to become great at Starcraft worth sacrificing your life to pay to live in a tiny house and play it all day then thats pretty sad. Starcraft isnt going to last forever, at least the professional scene. So these young people eventually will have used large periods of their life going towards nothing while others will have carried on with education or whatever. Dont bullshit about human progress we are talking about fucking STARCRAFT.

athletes are no less pathetics than these guys are. OK they don't train 11 hours a day but that's just because their body can't support it. They still got no life. Why do you think Michael Phelps is smoking weed at age 23? Maybe because for the first time of his life, he actually did something other than swimming.

In every sport or every game that exists, you gotta have "no life" to be among the best. I mean: Michael Jordan? Tiger Woods? Wayne Gretzky? Michael Phelps? All of these guys had "no life" before they became the best. Check out any biography, you'll see that when their friend were partying, going to the movies etc. they were actually alone practicing hard.

There's so much people instantly calling "no life" or "pathetic" or "sad" whenever a computer is involved, won't you realize that if they succeed, their life will be 10 times better than yours.

I'll be sure to check out this video b/c it surely looks interesting.

I've heard of [Name] and [Shield] academy's where amateurs congregate with one another and train like pros to become pros! Thanks for the video, Artosis!! Keep up the good work - I enjoy the contribution you've made as this is unprecedented footage in the foreign BW community.

Just out of curiousity, since there are several pro's that come from specific teams (ie. by. / [Shield] / [Name] , etc) I was wondering what other teams own practice houses?

My guesses: Sea. / n.Die_ / MenSol / by. / [gm] / [KaL]

I wonder how many failed progamers regret picking up the game.

guys can we not argue what is and isn't pathetic. each countries has it's segments that would probably make another country laugh it's ass off. i mean, if you think about it, chess is a pretty damn stupid hobby. but bobby fischer is regarded as an american hero. then there's competitive eating, darts, bowling, geez i can go on and on. and golf is stupid as hell. it's all in the marketing. computer games isn't regarded a high status profession, and in fact is often subject to ridicule by westerners. but who gives a fuck?

It's a shame there isn't some sponsorship money in it so that these guys could get to at least live there for free. I imagined they've convinced their parents that they have a good chance of becoming a progamer etc.

To me it's like kids in the west who really try to make a go of being in a band. Spend lots of time practicing, neglect other things in life, sometimes even live together. All with that hope of one day making it big. Sure most will fail and have to go back to the 'real world' but some will succeed and even those who don't at least won't die wondering if they could have 'made it' doing what they really love.
