When, Where, What and How

This tournament will take place on the 26th of December at 2:00pm EST. That is the 27th of December 4am KST or the 26th of December at 8:00pm CET. Everyone will meet on iCCup at this time in channel Xmas 2v2. A member of the TL staff will be there to oversee proceedings and hopefully make everything run smoothly as possible.

The tournament will be a single elimination tournament, with each round being Best of 3. Each round will have a predetermined fixed map list. The winning team will be awarded $50 via pokerstars/pay pal.

How to sign up

Signing up for this tournament is easy! Simply send a PM to Plexa with the following information;

Team Name:
Player 1:
TL:
iCCup:
Player 2:
TL:
iCCup:

Please include your TL account along with your iCCup account. Here is an example of what your pm should look like;

Team Name: [Hindsight]20/20
Player 1:
TL: ekii
iCCup: ekii_is_cool
Player 2:
TL: DeadVessel
iCCup: [z-zone]triad

Signups will close at 2pm EST on the 25th December (thats 4am KST on the 26th). Some late registrations will be allowed after this time to fluff out the bracket to avoid byes, but spaces cannot be guaranteed after this time. Everyone who signs up by 2pm on the 25th will have a reserved spot for them.

Rules

1) No team may double race, unless that race is random (i.e. no ZZ, TT, PP teams)
2)
i) Teams may switch one of their players for a substitute in the event of lag or that their partner must leave for something.
ii) There is a maximum of one substitute per team
iii) A substitute cannot be a member of another registered team
iv) Substitutes do not need to be pre-registered
v) A substitute may only play for one team
vi) To switch your player for a substitute you must alert the staff-member to the switch
3)
i) In the event of severe lag a substitute for the lagger must be found
ii) If the lagger cannot find a substitute the series will be forfeited
iii) If a lagger cannot be isolated then another method will be worked out on the day
4) All replays must be saved by the winners. Once the winners lose they should pm their replays to Plexa so a tournament replay pack can be collated and released
5) Lan Latency is not compulsory, but is highly recommended, and should be used whenever latency permits.
6) Anti-hack is mandatory
7) Observers are permitted on agreement between teams
8) If you are late to your match, every 10 minutes you are late results in a one game loss. That means if you are 20mins late you forfeit the series.
9) Don't be a jerk; anyone caught being a jerk will have a severe punishment

Some notes about Empathy from the author, Nightmarjoo;

Empathy is a shared-mains 2v2 map. While playable in melee mode, you can only best play the map in ums mode where you can decide which team you are on (the first team being the southern base, second being the northern (player 1 is bottom left, 2 is bottom right, 3 is top left, 4 is top right, always)). While not having anything drastically different from any normal map, it should play quite differently at the same time.

In your mains you share a total of three geysers with your ally (unless you're playing in melee, in which case you might be sharing three geysers with your opponent, yikes!), which gives you the option of divvying up the geysers however which way you want, should it be one player with 2 and the other 1 geyser, or even give all three geysers to one player if you should so desire.
You have 10 mineral blocks total, however one block has only 244 minerals.

Outside of your main you have a min only, which zergs may choose to take with their 2nd hatch if they feel they and their partner can defend it. 7 additional blocks can be a nice way to go into the game, though it lacks a tight choke.

From your main on the sides are two ramps. One is small like that of 815, and the other is normal sized by is blocked by 4 0-value mineral blocks. If you follow the lowground path to your enemy, your 815 ramp leads to his mineral blocked ramp, and your mineral blocked ramp to his 815 ramp. Near you along the mineral blocked path is an 8 mineral gas expo which has a cliff behind it. It is near both a large ramp leading from the middle and your mineral blocked ramp, which if you choose to mine out can make it easy to defend this base, however it will be harassable from the cliff behind it. The 8 mineral gas expo along the 815 ramp is somewhat safer, with no cliff, but it will be harder to get your large units to it as they must head through the middle first (or maybe glitch them down the ramp).

In the very center is an expo reminiscent of the Andromeda center expo. Plenty of building space on both sides of it, along with 2 geysers and 12 total minerals allows players to choose whether one player takes all, or if allies share it; and as the only 4th source of gas and 5th of minerals in the map along with its amount of resources, it is precious, and yet it can be quite vulnerable even for the leading team. This expo may force some king of the hill type play.

All in all, the map emphasizes using multiple paths and stresses mobility. It's easy to attack throughout the map, and hard to defend, great teamwork is required to best use the map's features.

PLEASE DON'T HATE ME TOO MUCH, IT WAS ALL PLEXA'S IDEA I SWEAR

The map seemed fun from the games I played on it. Just a tip: Arb-rush with ally going 2gate zlot vs 2rax mnm and 2hatch muta/ling doesn't work, in case the triple geyser makes you think arb rush too

lol @ rule number 9. I hope no one is caught breaking that offense.

edit: Hm I'd reccomend thinking of the map kind of like a 2v2 HitchHiker with a more important middle.

Great idea. I like the map, but i would had put a normal ramp instead of the 815 ramp. And how about reversing the side louground to high ground? too crazy?

You know, I ALWAYS wondered why this idea of UMS 2v2 maps was never popular. Blizzard actually made their own team maps with fixed positions, too.It just befuddles me that it didn't really cross anyones minds to use in a league or something to make team play a little more exciting.
