--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- patch 1.16.0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feature Changes

- In-game chat is now saved in replays. Note: whispers are not saved.
- Hitting the Escape key while in the chat room will clear your typed text.
- "/reply" (or just "/r") will send a whisper to person who most recently whispered you.

Bug Fixes

- Fixed localization issues with "from" and "to" in whispers.
- Starcraft now only uses as much CPU as it needs to run smoothly.

Exploits

- Fixed an exploit which allowed Zerg players to gain minerals through mutations.
- Fixed an exploit which allowed Zerg players to recycle an upgrading building.
- Fixed an exploit which allowed Zerg players to extend their creep with a drone.
- Fixed an exploit which allowed Zerg players to move Drones over impassable terrain.
- Fixed an exploit which allowed Terran players to drop a nuke anywhere on the map.
- Fixed an exploit which allowed players to pause the game while in the pre-game lobby.

It's about time they fix some of these exploits. Awesome new update. ^ ^

i just noticed something with the /r response...

everytime i type a word that has a second letter of 'r', as in 'ur' it whispers the message.
no matter what character i put infront of the r, as long an r is in the second character place the message gets whispered....intenesly annoying...

anyone else noticed this problem??

Guilty is correct. =/

If a two letter word with the second letter 'r' is typed, the rest of the message is whispered to the last person to whisper you.

well if you are saying in main chat

"or maybe I should have gone mutas", it gets whispered to the last person to whisper you.

Aesop, that's wrong. The word has to only be two letters, the second being R and then a space.

i wonder how long it takes them to fix the "r" thing though. cause that should not be a difficult thing to fix, and considering blizzard reads these forums this thread should be among the first they visit.

Wow. I'm impressed. I thought this topic would be a wishlist of things that we would want Blizz to include in the next, hypothetical, never coming patch.

Fixed an exploit which allowed players to pause the game while in the pre-game lobby.

whut?

Anyway, this is a great patch. For once they have added relevant things! The only fix I'm really missing is the one where units gets stuck...

I get choppyness when moving between channels or choosing games on Bnet. It seems that when "Starcraft now only uses as much CPU as it needs to run smoothly," my computer won't use that little extra processing power to make the UI smoother.

anyone else noticed this problem??

doesnt happen with me, maybe certain people.

Wow this is actually awesome! First patch in a while that I actually cared about.

Fixed a lot of the available hacks and even added useful things like /r and replay with text.

That's fantastic, though if only they had included first person replay if they were going to release replay with text anyways

Welll in any case HOORAY FOR NO MORE MINERAL HACKS

You have to love Blizzard for still patching a 10 year old game.

They didn't change anything ingame, so old replays shouldn't be corrupted, right?

The reps were about 1mb with the BWLauncher plugin with RWT... I think he was referring to that.

Saw this gem on the BWHacks forum to see if Oblivion was updated for the new patch.

I actually like a lot of the new features blizzard added. So what if they fixed the mineral hack, I got bored of using that months ago. Good riddens I say! It made meele with hacks rather boring. Maphack still adds an edge of competitive fun to the game.

For the few people who want the minor bugs fixed think of this:

Dragoon Freeze: Annoying yes also happens to all units when they receive to many commands at one time. Most people who have used dragoons enough learned already how to avoid this.

Reavers Scarab: Would you really like an overpowered unit with no excitement value remaining?

Valks: It's a sprite limit only happens in UMS and 8 players. Does not effect 1v1's.

Lol, the problem with r as the second character is probably because some newbie programmer at blizz did something like this:

if (text[1] == 'r') callWhisper...

that lazy fucker needs to check if the first character, text[0] == '/' as well.

I thought of it for a while... yet my opinion didn't change. You aren't supposed to try to do workarounds every game just because there's a bug in it. Can't see why you would possibly petition not to fix it.

I dont think the chat in replay may be a good idea... i think im dumb or something but, if we can't cancel out the chat in replays we might get less and less leaks of progamer practice replays because they might discuss strategies in it or something... oO

patch is released.

about pressing esc, it only applies to when you have not typed enter to enter in what you've typed. i find it quite useful (not essential of course).

I'm not sure about the cpu usage thing, haven't plyaed a game on it

overall, go blizzard :D:D

1.15.3 - direct download link to avoid rapidshare etc wait times:

http://www.starcraft.co.nz/StarCraft_1_15_3.zip

I'd love to see them integrate Chaos' low-latency feature (as an option). Pretty sure it would be very straightforward to do on their end.

i really dont understand why blizz can't implement lan lat on bnet....bnet is built for 1998, not 2009. Nobody has an average 14.4kbs connection anymore. Playing on bnet with this patch is terrible

can't use AH on iccup with the 1.15 executable, needs to be completely reverse patch

what a pain in the ass

Just in case we're particularly impatient, does anyone know if we can do a separate installation of SC so we can have a 1.15 and a 1.16 install?

I'll check later but I hope that you can still just swap exe's to watch older reps.

I haven't played on this patch yet but the new cpu thing seems pretty huge. If they were able to do it now i'm surprised they didn't do it a long time ago.

Only complaints I have is the /r shit making it auto whisper when I start some sentences with "R" words. Also, can you turn off the replay text in a replay? Sorry if these things have been addressed, but I didn't read through all the posts.

I have to say it sucks that coders like R1CH had to use their own time to make cpusavior, only after which blizz decided to make a move, but this was long overdue

I feel like everyone who is praising this hasn't actually played with it. The way Blizzard implemented CPU savior results in ridiculous and stupid clientside CPU lag. It's hardly playable. My mouse lags like I'm playing some sort of next gen FPS when it's just SC. When I reverted to 1.15 and go on ICCUP, my mouse is perfectly fine and everything is fine.

Just because they give it to you doesn't mean you have to be grateful. The patch is very buggy and ruins the bnet experience for a huge number of people. They'll fix it, I'm sure, but there's no point in pretending it's great, because if we did that then blizzard wouldn't fix it.

Yes, when we get something that is extremely buggy, we tell the creators it's buggy. It doesn't mean you're ungrateful. I'm sure everyone would be much happier if we just kept 1.16 with no fixes until the next patch, right.

If you want to de-patch it install this :
Starcraft

just extract it in the starcraft folder and replace the 1.16.0 with it.

Ok so basically, I read the news and was exited. I patched BW to 1.16.0. Then i found out i cannot play ICCup with that patch so i depatched it back to the old version using the complete starcraft iccup download : http://www.iccup.com/iccnews/2166/

Now i can start ICCup but the antihack system fails. Can anyone please help me? I really want to play ICCup right now.

Dunno if this helps at all, but the patch seems to modify the following files in the SC directory:

Starcraft.exe
battle.snp
standard.snp
storm.dll
bnupdate.exe
patch_rt.mpq

Presumably you'd need to replace these (not just Starcraft.exe) with their 1.15.3 equivalents to revert.

Wait, pros don't have backup of the single tiny program they depend on to make a living?

I thought my neighbour was crazy last night when she asked how to convert .doc to .pdf 3am the night before she delivered her law school final thesis o_O

I have not upgraded and have a copy or two of my sc folder, but I'm at work so others can probably help out faster.

If they fix the lagging problem everyone seems to be having this patch will be pretty good.

There are still no posts in the battle.net forums about the lag issue that I see 60 people here complaining about. If you don't post it on their forums, they don't know there is a problem.

The technical support forum is here: http://forums.battle.net/board.html?forumId=12014&sid=3000

I suggest someone who is having problems starts a thread describing the lag situation, then EVERYONE else who is having the same issue reply to that post. It could be the difference between it being fixed in a couple days or it being fixed in a couple months. Right now the only threads about the patch mention a minor bug that doesn't affect gameplay and user-side installation issues. That means Blizzard thinks their patch is fine.

Getting low CPU consumption right while using GetTickCount isn't easy, and it seems like blizzard made some mistake. It took R1CH several versions of his CPU-Savior to get it to work without any lag.

Will this make ANYONE play on bnet instead of ICC? nah.

Blizzard needs to either:
- stop producing patches completely and let us know we are on our own.

or:
- fix the damn game whenever something needs to be fixed so we can actually rely on them.

The way they are doing it now, by releasing a patch every 6 months or so, they are preventing the community to take things in its own hands and are giving us false hope we can count on them.

If you ask me, all this patch did is steal a weak or two of playing ICCup.

Anyone willing to enlighten me on what's so swiiiit about this patch?

If they did the latency thing, it would have been HUGE.

OMFG I can't believe this!! haha

Turns out the real pros are admins at TL, while newbies are over at blizzard.

I hope some of you awesome guys here get hired at Blizzard and make us all happy!

Just search for the file and move it to the starcraft folder, I think it might be located on the desktop, but you can just search through all drives.

While the exploit fixes are great, chat text in replays is my personal favourite addition. Some of my favourite Warcraft 3 replays are the fun 3v3 computer matches are where I was mostly just chatting with my friends through most of it. :D

whoa
i noticed a strange bug in bnet channels
if you type a sentence that begins with "or "
it whispers one of your friends ... i'm not sure how it picks who, though

i.e. "or else" would whisper a friend with "else"

For a game with such a large e-sports following this patch received no QA from the looks of it. Very poor show by Blizzard, I wonder what they were hoping to achieve by rushing this out.

Don't know if you fixed it yet, but what I did was to just download that complete SC off of ICCUP like you did, unextract, and drag all the files in the entire SC folder over my own. Make sure you save your stardat.mpq and broodat.mpq though, those have your cdkeys in them. You have to extract and drag, not copy paste.

I see texas already gave links to the three files that matter, I was just copying over everything

Seems like they should have an update that seriously eliminates lag for good. Starcraft is so archaic and requires barely any CPU or internet bandwidth. I seriously don't even play on Bnet ever because of it. I can only function under LAN or equivalent..

Just out of curiousity.

- Can you guys still speed up your replays? I cant.
- Can you guys read the /f m your opponent received in game when you didn't see it ingame? Because I can.

(rephrasing previous posts to make it simpler.)

For the ones who accidentally downloaded the new patch, you can go to iCCup and download their version of starcraft (which still has the old patch).

Next, after its done, you should make a copy of your original "C:\Program Files\Starcraft" file, just in case anything screws up.

Afterward, you can "delete" everything in your starcraft program file that aren't maps or replays or w/e. You can just copy and paste all the stuff in your previously dled iCCUp version of starcraft.

To summarize,

1. Download iCCup starcraft on their site.
2. *optional, but recommended* make a copy of "C:\Program Files\Starcraft" for safekeeping.
3. Delete everything in "C:\Program Files\Starcraft".
4. copy and paste everything from iCCup's starcraft file to "C:\Program Files\Starcraft" .

If you launch the iCCup launcher afterwards, you should have no problem. The antihack should be on (and therefore lan latency) and the old patch should still be there.

Hope this helps. x)

- Fixed an exploit which allowed players to pause the game while in the pre-game lobby.

... and it only took 10 years to do! Now, that's service!

and personally, i think the cpu usage thing is useless (unless they patch it up). it's not like i'll have resource intensive programs open when i'm gaming anyways.

Has anyone else noticed that they messed up the new reply feature? Instead of triggering with "/r" at the beginning of a sentence, any character followed by an r triggers the reply whisper. So, typing "or i suck balls" whispers the last person to whisper you "i suck balls".

the exploits are only recent..
and personally, i think the cpu usage thing is useless (unless they patch it up). it's not like i'll have resource intensive programs open when i'm gaming anyways.

It will make more people able to play the game when it works. Some laptops have heat issues when running at 100% for a longer period of time.

Yes, that is why it has mentioned x number of times before.

I read all the posts and here's a new possible issue. My friend and I both updated to the new patch, he's running Windows, I'm using OSX. Whenever we play a game on UDP it works perfectly fine (I haven't seen this lag people are talking about), BUT, then after about 10-15 minutes his computer just freezes and he's dropped from the game. We tried this like 5 times and each time the same thing happened. So annoying.

I want to believe it's just that his computer sux, I mean it doesn't have a graphics card, just a chipset...but we used to play before this patch no problem so it's possible that it was the patch that messed things up.

if you can reproduce the bug I'm sure Blizzard would like to hear about it.

Yeah, some of my friends and I just tried a few games on Hamachi, nothing seems to be wrong.

Hmm, I'm having trouble updating to 1.16.

When I enter bnet, it hangs at "Connecting to fastest server" without even saying anything about an update. I downloaded the patch manually, but then apparently there's a problem with a checksum in staredit.exe that prevents me from applying it.

My version of Starcraft is the digital download offered from the Blizzard online store, which I think may play a part here. Anyone got any ideas?

did u read through this thread? did you check for other threads concerning this issue? I highly doubt it, cause like 34567890°0987654356789098765456787654 people brought this up already.

I did read through it, but after trying all the methods which I saw posted (uninstall/reinstall, manually patch, redownload if there's no CD, use Chaos while updating), none of them worked. If I missed something, I apologize.

Also I looked through the first few pages of the forum but didn't find any threads related to the issue. Once again, if I missed something, I apologize.

EDIT: As it turns out, I did miss a thread on page 3. Sorry about that. There's a couple more things to try there which I'll check out.
