Hi!
Some years ago Sclegacy held a similar contest, where the goal was to reach the 200/200 population limit as fast as possible. The map was Lost Temple, the records back then were the following:
Zerg - Tessai 9:45 Terran - Beast 8:58 Protoss - l.y.forever 8:36
I've recently held a similar contest at replays.hu, this time Tau Cross was used. Probably due to map difference, all the previous records were broken:
Zerg - tA-r.skyline 9:31 Terran - Overlord[uUc] 8:48 Protoss - Overlord[uUc] 8:31
Can you beat those? The rules are the following:
-You can use any starting position on Tau Cross 1.1. Please use only this version (you can download it from here http://sc.replays.hu/maps.php?dl=398 ) to avoid eventual differences between different versions. So please no WGT or ICCUP versions. -Use fastest speed on multiplayer. In order to avoid the computer bugging you, close the computer slot during the countdown. -The time that counts is the one shown in the replay, when the population counter shows 200/200. -If you managed to broke one of the records, prove it by uploading the replay. I will update this post with the current records.
Current records: Zerg - deekin 9:31 Terran - deekin 8:45 Protoss - wonders 8:22

Is there a way to verify the contest participants are using fastest speed rather than normal or slower? If it's just replays unless the result is something like 800 APM how would we know?

In the game lobby of the replay, doesnt it say "game speed" on the right side under map preview?

Yeah it does, and I believe it runs the replay at whatever speed the game was played at.

not only that but the time counts up at a fixed rate
so a game played on slowest that looks to have lasted 10 minutes will show like 40 on the replay timer

oh, this seems like fun! Let's get the theorycrafting going!
I just tried with zerg, building only drones and got an embarrasing 10.54 at the first try. Maybe you want to tech up to ultras or something to get more supply per larva? Or go drones but excecute better? What is the best method to use?
EDIT: 9.06 with protoss. 5 nexus into around 10 gateways zealots. I think it is important to get the maynards perfect. EDIT2: I'm did two more runs with zerg and i got 10.09 and 10.12 with drones only.

as far as i know, only drones were built... but there were close results with ultra and muta(!) builds in this contest.

just some pieces of advice; you can play without an opponent by creating a multiplayer game and closing the comp during countdown (you will have to press continue at the beginning tho), and don't altq as soon as you reach 200/200, as replays cut off precious fragments of a second from the game, so you might end up not reaching the limit in the replay edit: I see it's already been mentioned in the OP, sorry

does it matter what you mass?

deekin, did you use only drones, right?

You should use only overlords.

It doesn't matter which units you use. For zerg theoretically ultras have the best building time / supply ratio, and they were actually used by Pezsmapatkany in getting the same time as deekin (tA-r.skyline). Of course using Oblivion is out of question, I guess it was meant to be a joke.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but look for your location after reading your last sentence. Before I even looked, I knew you were from that land :o

Nvm. I read first sentence, not last.

wo how the fuck did he manage 8:36, with toss. Best I could do was 9:20. Will keep trying though ofc ;D!
edit: an improvment of 9:12 but bleh's fast that boy!

See the irony? Or are you also being sarcastic by pretending you don't know we are?

Nope, I didn't know.
EDIT: I was being sarcastic, of course.
