Hello everyone,
After playing SC2 for some years (and a long break in between) I found myself willing to learn to play BW, specifically Zerg.
While I have a decent grasp of the basics, my gamesense and ability to micro properly (Looking at you mutas) are still completely lacking.
If anyone is up for some games to help me get adjusted to the game (even by playing some 2v2s) and give me some guidance please send me a DM or reply to this post! (P.S. I am based in the EU)
Thank you everyone for the attention, have a nice day!

You can always join the CPL server and get instruction there. Signups just closed but people are in there always looking for games and lots of lower level players that you can practice with as you learn and improve. https://discord.gg/utBD627p

Zerg in broodwar is arguable the most interesting rts faction in existence. Larva is a huge difficultly for most new zergs, while sc2 zerg is not larva starved as long as you inject. Be sure to add macro hatches to have sufficient larva.
Don't worry about mutas, those will take a lot of practice by themselves. They act way differently when a burrowed or slow unit is also selected. If you find muta micro fun then do it.
Here is a video about muta micro that can plant the seed for when you do want to tackle them + Show Spoiler +
Play fastest, your economy will become much bigger fasters and you can practice 5sh6sh7sh8sh9sh0sh, or ctrl clicking larva to make 12 units fast.

Thank you everyone for the attention, have a nice day! Larva is a huge difficultly for most new zergs, while sc2 zerg is not larva starved as long as you inject. Be sure to add macro hatches to have sufficient larva. Agreed, I'm shit at Zerg but what helped me conceptualize the race was that Larvae are a third resource besides gas and minerals. Hearing that was a galaxy brain moment for me personally, hopefully it hits home for someone else who reads this someday the same way it did me, even if it's not OP.
Another thing that I think is still true for Zergs, which is what others have mentioned here IIRC from my skim, is that "living on the edge" mentality. The reason why Zerg builds are what they are is because you need X Drones to fund Y Hydra production or M Zerglings and N Mutas to hold this push + be able to harass and buy time for Hive, stuff like that. That's what I consider to be the "meta" of Zerg in a sense: make the most of what you have and you can't under- or over-invest or you get punished. Terrans get punished for late timings and bad positioning. Protoss get punished for poor scouting and reactions. While all of these things are true for all races to some extent, I think that these are some of the basic characters that apply to each of these races more than they do others in at least some match-ups in at least some ways.

Surprised to hear this advice here but I get it. I think in 2024 it makes for a better on-ramp than in 2004. This also kinda applies to what I wanted to say, which is that the most important thing is to have fun. If you're not having fun, you're not gonna wanna play, and you won't have the drive to get better IMO. Find what makes you happy, etc.

The actual hardest part of brood war is unit control. Getting the hang of how to properly control your units is key. (Like, wtf how come when I send 6 lings from left to right one of the lings decides to run 5 cm above the rest? and lings are basically the most reasonable ground units in the game)
The good thing is that for this, you basically get to practice it whenever you play, no matter what you play. The bad thing is some of your competition has thousands of hours of experience. For this reason, bw is actually a much less build-order centered game than you'll often be led to believe; unit control is the great difference maker. Like on a high level where everyone has decent or good unit control, build orders can give you slight advantages that might be turned into a win, but for anyone below say, 1800 mmr, there's a shit-ton of low hanging fruit in terms of simply controlling your units reasonably well - and controlling them at all.
Macro is important too, of course, but it's easier to compensate for bad macro. Protoss and terran can queue units, and zerg can build an extra hatchery or two if they're not on top of their macro cycles. However, as far as units go, there's no compensation for letting 24 hydras get stormed, or going back to macro and having your 11 mutas die to marines. While the 'larva=a third resource' has some truth to it, I think there's an even more important third resource, and that is - your attention. Sometimes, letting your minerals pile up a bit is actually the right choice to make, because macroing will come at the expense of controlling your army, and not doing that will hurt you a lot more.
