maybe you should consider the bigger picture that's on display here, empathize with Zero... and bring up the real topic for discussion!!!

Where is it? The OP only has witness testimony of no credibility whatsoever, that could be interpreted as inappropriate or not.

No credibility... because you say so?

Did I read correctly that Rus_Brain defended the choice to have Rapid cast on day 1?
I am not entirely sure I read Rus_Brain's comments correctly because of the weird grammar.
Because if he did defend the choice then this is somewhat a clear cut case of ending any association with him too right?

And did Bonyth Quote Rus_Brain's "Dumb Lizard" comment because he agrees? or does he disagree?

Honestly reading this thread has somewhat confused me where some crucially involved people are standing on this matter.

Don't want to be stereotypical or bring politics into this but it's hard to not notice that the people who (appear to) defend the decision mostly come from Poland or Russia, while the ones who are most angry come from the US or the West in general. There's literally mention about the whole East vs West thing earlier in this thread lol. Needless to say which group cares more and which group takes this kind of stuff less seriously, hence we're having this messy situation right now.

Of course you can say the problem at hand is purely about tournament integrity (or something like that), but I think the deeper root comes from the difference in ideology of the two groups.

Don't let Radley and Shad distract and divide us from the basic argument here by their hurling blanket insults at "Western" culture. Simple point still stands - don't reinstate someone who you yourself banned without any kind of resolution or transparency and expect your viewers/supporters to be OK with that decision. The whole judgement/not guilty in a court of law argument is completely irrelevant to the conversation.

Let me rephrase what I said above by an example: let's say BSL banned player X for bm'ing in a previous tournament, but X is a really good player and BSL could use someone like him in an anniversary tourney, so he came back for it, unexplained. That's a wrong thing to do and would spark some controversies obviously, but I bet less people would be angry about it compared to the case when X is an alleged sex offender. We all have our levels of tolerance.

In this case, Rus_Brain and his co are the people who are not angry at X in the above example, because they are more lenient towards such an act of wrongdoings (and that comes from their ideology/culture). Added to that is the fact Rapid can bring something valuable to the table (which apparently was just revealed as Sharp), so they are willing to bend an old rule to make an exception for him. Then why not being transparent about it before the tournament? Maybe because the outrage might potentially affect their plan, and they already had enough tasks to do.

I'm not trying to justify or saying anything is right or wrong though. It's just quite obvious to me why he did this and I'm explaining the version of this event from their point of view.

BSL is a publicly funded event, it's just bad business to tell the majority of your audience that their opinions are invalid because culturally you think they are wrong. Especially when you then claim they should be more empathetic. All the back and forth and reasoning is irrelevant. If you upset your viewer base who pay for your livelihood you are not obligated to make a statement and walk back on your decision. But your certainly not helping your businesses future viability by defending your actions and making cryptic and underhanded statements towards a lot of the more well known people in the community.

Haven’t heard from any of the participants about this. Wonder how many people at the event were aware of the history.

I have faith that a public statement will come about soon enough.

LAN looked awesome and successful minus this situation and a the audio issues.

the east vs west thing is a common rhetorical tactic used by some groups in several countries that were to the east of the former "iron curtain". i see political advertisements making these kind of arguments in my country everyday. i don't live in poland but the principle is the same.

it's a common enough idea that maybe nobody here jumped to it with ill-intent. you hear people say these "east vs west" things every day. but the thing is that it's a lie.

this isn't an east vs west thing in the slightest.

however, by framing it as such, they can cast as outsiders anyone who speaks them, even if they are local to them. they can also erase the longer history of people feeling a certain way and cast it as a new development that started after the fall of the berlin wall.

and importantly, by framing it this way, they trick westerners like you into mentally assigning everyone to the east into the "rhetorical enemy" category. but the thing is that you will absolutely see plenty of westerners making these same arguments in these same situations. i've seen it myself plenty of times. and you will see plenty of people in the east who think that someone like rapid casting is bullshit.

if you get a westerner to come out and call it an east vs west thing, like you just did, suddenly many in the east who might've agreed with you goes: "wait a fucking minute, am i betraying my culture, or my people?"
of course, the answer is no. you've been tricked. unfortunately, reaching that realization is difficult.

and on that note, i'm pretty tired of westerners thinking we are simultaneously evil james bond villains while also being people who live in borat's village or whatever. i think falling for the "east vs west" thing is an extension of that type of stereotypical belief. i'd ask you to consider that a wide variety of people live here, with a wide variety of beliefs and values, just like in your own home country.

Boot Rapid.

He’s an idiot. He didn’t apologize or acknowledge the very many friends of mine who came out and called out him being sexually inappropriate and harassing.

Dude barely played the game anyway.

Also, lol, the people defending him… seriously grow up. It’s 2023 and y’all still let these people talk, and worse you still respond and take them seriously. They’re not gonna be convinced, they never were smart when I was in the scene and it seems nothings changed.

I agree with most of what you are saying. I was about to make a similar post.

I think ALL kinds of people live EVERYWHERE around the world. The East is home to MOST of the World's population.

Nationalists in every country thrive on this kind of division. I think protecting and advancing national interest is possible and preferable to demonizing people.

I think people should travel or even move to a place they find may align closer to their core values. While cultural differences do exist I think they are not universal.

This is of course way off topic and better saved for a political thread.

Amen! Having participated in organising live events (non esports) myself, I can understand how disconnected one can be from online community during that time.

I think it was a low blow to remove stream from live streams and to issue statement when ZZZero is still in Thailand. But I'm just a spectator.

not even the Saudis did this, the issue don't have anything to do with politics as pro Russian's could argue it's more about the grooming or previously reported weird sexual-toned interactions by female members of LoL, SC2 and our own community.

rapid's casting ability is next to non-existing so idk how he got hired to cast in the first place. To top it off, he has the looks of a child molester coupled with a Dahmer vibe. And now what? He sexually harassed women - wow, what a brazen dude, even a crass bulgarian like me is speechless.

Not really, this forum may house a small number of the community but plenty of discussion about it in discord and other places. The world is a lot larger than Russia and Poland

And it doesn't change the fact that if your shilling for money to pay for your tournament you should probably try to not upset a portion of your player base even if it's only 20% but I would wager the number is much higher.

It would be the same from an organizational standpoint. Example: would savior or ss1nz just suddenly be in an ASL qualifier without a statement? Would GSL invite life to a special event tomorrow?
