Patch 1.23.1 has arrived!
Features and Improvements:
Players may now select their preferred color in unranked multiplayer games. Additionally, we’ve extended the available color palette.
Worker counts have been added to the Replay UI.
Additional voice lines for game start and game end have been added to the “Voices of Legend” announcer packs.
Players in unranked multiplayer games must now choose a race before a game can start. This should help folks that get stuck with a race they didn’t intend to play, and hopefully result with fewer people immediately leaving games.
Players will now re-join their previously used chat channel when logging back into Battle.net. This change was made for the folks that would prefer not to view/engage in default chat channels.
Note: Players can re-join the default chat channel via the channel list - the first entry will always be the default channel
Other:
String limits have been updated for map makers Minor bug fixes
Additionally, please note that we will be updating the Battle.net desktop APP to execute the 64bit version of SCR by default in the coming weeks. (32-bit will remain as an option for Windows users).
I have wanted colour picking for so long so I'm incredibly happy with this.

Of course random is an option. But some of these colours are pretty bad... Very hard to see on minimap.

You can already do that. Just hit shift tab once instead of twice. Or wait, does that only affect the minimap?

Thank for these updates.
I need to ignore my opponents who have nicknames contain random letters or barcode.
I would like to see my statistics and my opponents' statistics. It doesn't work for random letters and barcode players. I know we can do it by press number 0 at full-size keyboard but I am using a TKL keyboard. /s + nickname is also another way but it's so hard to do with long nicknames. I hope you make another command easier than this one.

On one hand, this was one of the only changes that I actually agreed with. On the other, as Scan mentioned, the colors were really close to each other and some like the dark brown or grey made units really blend with the tiles on the minimap so I ended up just going with random.

If I'm not mistaken, you can still pick Random or any race and change your race at the last second.

i havent kept up to date with patch notes and i havent played in ages so i dunno whats going on now, but i recall seeing something about mouse/key rollover potentially being patched a while back? is there any update on this?

Funny shit.. Cyan same color as gas and minerals.. you can hide at mineral line with your units on minimap xD
So far ive picked Cyan all the time.

I think for ranked matches map makers should be allowed to specify a custom palette of eight player colours that works well with the tileset/terrain and still are easily distinguishable from each other (no more green/teal, blue/dark aqua or white/tan/pale yellow/yellow confusion). Might be the better solution for all kinds of melee games in fact, to prevent all kinds of camouflage colour abuses and would also safe tournament hosts from having to regiment this.

In the original SC:R screenshots before the game was even launched they had “2v2” and “3v3” as actual game modes implying some sort of team matchmaking system, we never got that on launch and In early 2018 grant said it would be out by the end of 2018. Then it was pushed back to sometime in 2019, now they just don’t talk about it? Is it safe to say they lied? I’m not sure what to think about it

So still no 2v2 matchmaking? I wonder when we'll have all the features they promised pre-launch. But we are kinda starting to get to the point where it isn't worse than what we had before, so that's something I guess.

Guys the developers are gonna read all the negative comments in this thread and then delete the colors patch. I am happy with this small update. I miss the days of the old colors when you could be black color on the hunters. This is an improvement. Don’t read too much into all of the negative comments in this thread BNET developers. It is a nice quality of life improvement.

If two players get similar colours then it becomes very difficult to distinguish who's units are who, for example:
- Yellow, pale yellow and lime
- Blue and navy
- Grey and black
There is a valid reason people are unhappy with the colours, the developers should be aware of this and try to come up with a way to fix it.

There is a valid reason people are unhappy with the colours, the developers should be aware of this and try to come up with a way to fix it.
The fix is in the lobby people don't pick similar colours.
This doesn't effect ladder.

The color patch is mainly for UMS which is why there should be a button to disable these colors for normal play.
Its a half-finished patch imo. Not much thought behind it.
Personally i would like minerals/gas per minute in replays/obs mode. Id rather have that than worker count.

Me only complaint is that I've had to kick people who weren't understanding about the race picking thing, which makes getting a game going a little harder. I still need more time to see how big of an issue it is.

I like the patch, It may negatively effect me though as I am color blind. -_-
EDIT : everything else aside from the Color change I like, I don't think it was really necessary IMO, they should give the option to make it usable or not usable, I haven't tried it yet but I will tomorrow, I think some colors will be wild for us color blind people. gl hf gg

I'm not able to find game without lag (which is actually a reason I stopped playing lately and I'm sure it's not only me). I'm not able to play 2v2 with matchmaking. Autoreplays are still named in retarded way. No packet-loss handling (or very poor one).
But i can choose my color even though I always use shitft+tab+tab anyway. YAY!
Can anyone be really excited about such a patch?
Worker counts have been added to the Replay UI.
This is the only usefull thing. It is a shame that we had to wait so long for this.

Just do team match, custom ai script implementation that was available in 1.16.1 and merge west + east.I said the same thing 18 months ago and they promised team match by end of 2018 so I have no faith in them delivering it now.

i wanted to be happy about a patch, i thought it was kinda cool that they made custom colors until my first game in a 3v3 bgh. this guy picked black. impossible to see on the minimap

There is a colour that is the same as minerals on the minimap that is just as game breaking.Keep these new colours to ums games.Even then remove some - light yellow, lime and yellow are totally indistinguishable on the minimap.

I also played a game where I had 2 yellow terrans. the 2 yellows look almost identical, one Terran was on my team, the other was an enemy. I used shift tab for team colours but the enemy Terran appeared red on my minimap and yellow skinned. Unbelievably confusing, I might sound like a whiner but I’ve already had a bad experience with the new colours in team games. I don’t know how they could think having 2 colours so similar being a good idea..

There is no color blind option by the way, I checked, and I am against these new colors as well.

That's actually the dumbest thing they came up with. I guess they wanted to avoid situations when a player forgets to choose the race, but it's annoying for the other 99% when they want to go with random.
They certainly should not disable the start if somebody didn't pick his race.

Actually I think the reason they did the Race picking mandatory because game launch is because a lot of people will switch race during the countdown, that has been going on a long time, unless they patched that prior to this. If you time it correctly at like 3 // 2 seconds, it used to let you switch your race at the countdown, people try that a lot on Ladder back in the day to try and get an easy build order win.

That doesn’t solve the problem though... the problem is that the host can’t start the game because it says “select race” instead of defaulting to random like it should. If their concern was people switching race during countdown, there should be a race “lock-in” option and if you don’t lock in prior to countdown then it should lock-in your race automatically when the countdown begins. The fact that it makes you select race and holds up the game instead of defaulting to random doesn’t make any sense

I gave the patch more time and came to the conclusion that there are too many similar colors and it makes team games way too confusing. I played a 2v2v2v2 and couldn't keep track of who was on what team. Race picking makes starting a game obnoxious with people just not paying attention. Overall unhappy with the changes. They seem unnecessary and do more harm than good.

Blizzard surely uses approach: Add feature, Release patch, Test later.
Also is this a bug? After someone left, their buildings and units disappear from minimap? This is hella annoying if you want to exp just to find a CC there lol (or even a whole sim city, i have short memory yo!).

You can still pick Random first and then pick desirable race during countdown. This hasnt changed since patch.
The only thing "good" about 'Select Race' is if you are last to join you now have the chance to see who youre playing with before launch. It also delays start by a minute or so atm.

Adding my opinion, I'm against the new colors as well, team games are confusing now, Not a fan of using shift+tab in team games because sometimes you need to distinguish enemy blue terran from enemy yellow terran for example while communicating with your allies and planning your attack. Making all red with shift tab is not an option for me at least in team games.

Yeah dunno why there is no option to disable custom colours when hosting, just like there is for hotkeys. It can be pretty bad in a couple of cases as demonstrated in this thread...
But I quite loved playing as a black Terran in 1v1 melee... :D Fun patch for me
edit.: also annoying that you have to explain to people that they need to pick their race now, but I guess this'll pass eventually

It's so crucial in team games being able to see the move outs and counters of that fourth player on the minimap in the corner of your eye while you are pushing his partner, and some of these new colours are virtually invisible there. And as you said with shift-tab in team games you are losing out on a lot of information AND it is boring seeing the same colours every game.

I would like if each player could set the colors they see in the screen. Also with ability to save the color settings. Not all colors are easy to see in the minimap, and for color blind people some colors are propably close to impossible to seperate from each other.
