I don't know the software needed to start doing these, so I would like help with this. Also, I would like recommendations for VODs to commentate on (preferably a TvP or TvZ) (and where I can get the videos)!
Thanks - I want to get to this ASAP!

- Always keep talking. You never want dead air, ever. Dead air is bad. It's okay to have dramatic pauses which you can use to collect your thoughts, though. If there's nothing really happening, you can talk about the players, the league format, previous games on the same map, what's at stake, there's really no end to what you can talk about. - Some babbling is okay but be careful about repeating yourself. One common mistake casters make is they'll say "the zealots of Kim Dong Soo" "the dragoons of Kim Dong Soo" "the probes of Kim Dong Soo" etc. - Don't constantly mention units by their full names. While it's somewhat okay to say "Ultralisk" when you could shorten it to "Ultra", don't say "Zerg Ultralisk" please. This is my own personal input because AfterBurn used to do this and it drove me nuts. "And there goes the Protoss Probe of Kim Dong Soo!" - Another hard part is commenting on what is actually happening during a battle. You have to be able to notice and react to little things the players are doing. "You can see how Kim Dong Soo is targeting the center of those Zealots with his Reaver for maximum splash damage, great play!" is a good thing to say. - When battles heat up, intensify your voice. Part of the magic of commentators is they have the ability to amplify the effect of what's happening on the screen. If a huge battle is happening and you're not enthused, most of that magic is lost. - Periodically take the time to identify strategic changes and adaptations the players are making. Something like "Kim Dong Soo's Dragoon numbers are slipping, it seems he's saving up resources to switch to Carriers". - Excitement is top priority. You can provide insightful commentary but it must never replace the excitement factor. I don't know if I personally agree with this but for the average person it's better to have Um Jae Kyung talking than Kim Dong Soo.

It's hard to get more people to do it, but I noticed that there's no "dead air" in the Korean videos because when they speak, they speak as if they're talking to each other, not the viewer. So it feels more like a conversation (an exciting conversation) Thats why the Day/Nony commentaries for Bisu vs Savior were pure win.

Microphone Audacity (for recording audio) and a VOD to watch while recording. Then combine them with with WMM. If you want to commentate on replays, you must use Camtasia Studio ![]()

I liked the commentary. I especially liked the the more indepth comments. I think you should really focus on those comments as it seems to be your main strength as a commentator. For instance, during the bunkerrush you basically said one this: "I think Zerg will be able to survive, at the cost of many drones". Where the commentators would go berserk and scream a lot, you remained calm and focussed on the outcome of the battle. Some constructive critique: - You are often breathing / blowing in your microphone and this makes it hard to hear what you are doing. - The original sound is still there in the background and since your speech isn't very loud, I often find it hard to hear exactly what you are saying. If you want to keep the original sound for background noice that's ok, but please put the volume of your recording up. - There were a number of comments that didn't really enlight anything. If you can, please stick to the strategy/tactics comments as I think it's where your commentary really shines. - Preparation is key. I know you wanted to test out your commentating skills ex official, so this comment isn't really directed towards you, but a good commentator is a prepared commentator. Not knowing that the map was hitchhiker for instance or not telling the audience what the stakes of the game are is not going to help the audience in getting in to the commentary or the game for that matter. All in all, good commentary with stronger points and weaker points. Looking forward to the next one.

P.S Is your pronunciation of "often" correct in America, or did you not pay attention in English class? (The "t" is supposed to be silent; here, at least.)

I like your style of commentating, although I'd like some "GEEEE GEEEEEE" and "AHHHHH DEFENSIVE MATREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEX"es somewhere in the middle ![]()

You should have mentioned that Zergman took time to kill Iris bunker after killing the marines. This was a poor choice imo, because it gave time for iris to pull his scvs at the ramp ad build 2 extra marines. Without those scvs and by attack-moving on the running scv Zergman could have finished the game right there. Instead Zergman decided not to focus on his units and start to macro, when he had a game breaking moment in his hand. You can notice his zerglings where on attack command on a running SCV. The SCV actually escaped, if erg man microed that he could have got some important kills at that stage of the game. Also when you said Iris had the upper hand, i disagree. At that point of the game Iris was not going to come out. Zergman saw his marine count, and he got many scvs killed in that push. Zergman not only had more drones, but 2 hatcheries to produce them. While Iris had only 1 CC. Zergman didn't need to use his larvae to make units, because a ramp break with that scv block would be quite a gamble. And he had enough zerglings to stop that marine force if iris decided to attack his marines would die to zerglings. (or Zergman could just run back and sunk, what is exactly what he does later on). I think Zergman's mistake was making assumptions on iris game plan. He felt like Iris would Expo right after the expo push. In that assumption he had careless unit control in middle suiciding lots of zerglings and he though he would get iris totally off-guard with the backdoor lurkers. That were his stupid mistakes imo.
