Hmm, I might need to try again, game capture wasn't working for me, my scenes that I currently have (I never went through any tutorials, I tried and test stuff that I would like):
1) Starcraft.exe window capture, webcam, image overlay after starcraft.exe closes after game, and scoreboard 2) Chrome window capture, for after game (sometimes I add webcam here too) 3) Monitor 1 display capture where I'd show other things on stream 4) Monitor 2 display capture - rarely used, I have my music stuff, stream stuff here, etc.
Not sure how good mca64 code is, and not sure if he'd let you borrow any of it, but it has some nice features that I'd love to have (from the thing called "Shitty Plugin"):
-Overlay (who's playing, what maps, spawning locations, colors) -Game time -Real world time -APM -Twitch chat appearing in game -Song information from spotify
These would all be amazing, some for just playing, and some for streaming.
Other neat feature there is you can set replays to not save if they are shorter than two minutes, which I think is great... Or if that could be taken a step further, and replays could be saved in different locations based of filter settings, like whether it's a melee (or match making game), ffa, 2v2, etc. Just some thoughts for the future maybe, so far it's being great

The system currently in place is temporary, you'll be able to play on any map you want soon (picking from a list of server-provided maps as well as things you have locally).

Usually you have to start a game and then configure it in OBS to get it to find the right process, but after it's setup it will work for future streams.
mca's code for the things you mentioned (outside of twitch/song info) was basically copy-pasted from code that I wrote, so there's no need for us to re-use any of that. It hasn't been added because ShieldBattery offers a much better opportunity to integrate these things in a cleaner and better-looking way, and more extensibly (feasibly people could write their own custom integrations into this system without needing to reverse engineer anything). It hasn't been implemented yet because it's not the highest priority thing, but it's planned.
As for the replay stuff, I think you're a bit too stuck on the idea of managing files for this, which will soon be a thing of the past. We're going to soon provide both better search and filtering capabilities for replays than "name the file a certain thing" or "put it in a certain folder", and provide automatic server-saved replays, so that you can access them from anywhere. Filenames and directory names are a bad solution for tagging/organization, so generally don't get so hung up on the sorts of limitations Brood War has *currently*. We can move past all of that; that's kind of the point of this project

when you say server-provided do you mean the games will be hosted through your servers, or just that the downloads will provided by you and a user will host?
|
Map downloads will always come from one of our servers (which will involve uploading locally-available maps if those are selected). Once a map has been uploaded, it will be available for anyone else to host games on. Generally the map download is fast enough that users don't notice they've downloaded a map at all, and we don't expect or want users to maintain a local set of maps at all (but obviously some people have large map collections, and we want to let them play those on ShieldBattery as well). All of that has very little to do with how in-game network traffic works, so this question of "hosting" makes me think you might be thinking a little too much about how BW's pre-ShieldBattery setup functions. A "host" in ShieldBattery terms is only talking about privileges of lobby control, there's effectively no difference between hosts and non-hosts as far as map distribution or other network traffic.

When is name highlighting going be added? One of the most annoying things is playing the looking for games minigame in chat.

I'm never going to be able to give you an exact time for things to be added unless they are already done and just awaiting a server push. I'm deeply aware of the frustrations and limitations of how things currently work; it's not an oversight, just a matter of available time and prioritization.

yeah, thats what i was trying to get at. thanks for the clarification.

Hey, random idea, no clue if it's feasible or anything. Given that the games are hosted on your server, is it at all possible to have them be watchable from outside the game interface, like a first person stream?

StarCraft is peer-to-peer, there is no server involved in the game

it was popular for bots to host games like dota in wc3 from a fixed location. thats essentially like a server, no?

The problem is more people ask for games, wait a couple minutes at most then go afk/alt-tab. With a small server population it's just really annoying to find games.

I have a possible solution for the issue of too few players

That's what they always say, and then they come on once.

I love shieldbattery so far. Latency is good, no more color crashing, and my god i can actually alt tab out of broodwar!!! what a time to be alive.
On the other hand, not sure if this has been brought up before, but can we expect some sort of a ready-up notification? As you start the game it shows the count down timer but itd be cool if we can have that same beep from broodwar. Also it automatically puts you into the game without the briefing window, is that also something to be implemented soon?
When we used to play ums there were bits of info about the map in the briefing window before the game started. I thought it was pretty helpful.
Keep up the great work guys.

I'm pretty sure that some sound will be implemented for the countdown but I dunno what or when, tec will likely provide more info on that (if he wants). Dunno about the briefing screen.

Another thing, would also be nice if we can have tab flashing or notification sound when someone joins your game. Lots of times i keep checking back to see if anyone joined my game.

Yes, sounds and notifications are things that will happen in the very near future. Not planning on preserving the BW briefing screen, but we're going to try out a second in-game countdown (like a ~3 second one) in the near future.
