Hello all

I've had alot of friends playing on korean servers these days, and if you have ever logged into brainclan, sometimes it takes forever to get a game because you don't speak the damn language.

Therefore, I figured it would be beneficial to the foreign community if we could all learn a handful of phrases to help us get games

remember WGT? Korean players would have in their profile

/w wgtbot win
/w wgtbot play <id>

etc

We should have such phrases so that we can say things like

"1v1 gogo?"
"Sorry, I don't speak korean"
"You make"

etc

Therefore if you are korean, please give us a handful of phrases that we foreigners can use!! Please use the english alphabet as opposed to hangul! as in, how would you type in phonetically, like gosu, chobo, hasu, annyong haseyo etc, not fjdgklafjd, qqkuqk or something

I will compile a list of useful phrases so that people can ladder away : ]

Phrase list:

After you see something like "1200+++ 1v1" you can msg him
"ㄱㄱ(rr)"or "고고(rhrh)" which both means gogo. It's common
when you msg someone "go make" and suddenly you see
"종족이?" "종족?" then he is asking for your race so just type
any english initial(e.g. me z.). You can do the same thing by
asking him his race before gaming by typing "종족이?(whdwhrdl?)"
then most likely you will see something like zerg "z, ㅈ, 저그",
terran "t, 테,테란", protoss "p, ㅍ, 플토" it can be in different forms
but if you see any first word he says with ㅈ ㅌ ㅍ then you can
assume what race he said. If he keeps talking in korean thinking
you speak korean, you can easily type "me no korean" but you can
say "Sorry, No korean(저 한국사람아님)[wj gksrnrtkfkadksla].

* 2 fac (2 factories)

* 3 centi drop (3 cm drop, dropping your units in enemys' base only travelling a short distance i.e without overlord speed upgrade)

* 4 drone (4 drone spawning rush)

* 8 barrack

* 9 over pool (9 drone - overlord - spawning pool)

* BBS, BSB (barrack - barrack - supply, barrack - supply - barrack)

* FD terran (fake double command, usually consists of attacking your enemy really early on with 1~2 tank + 5~7 marines making them think you're playing agressively when you're actually expanding)

* SK terran (It's a strategy usually consists of numerous M&M, loads of Science vessels and little or no mechanic units)

* Gas rush

* Gong up, Bang up (Gong up means attack upgrade, Bang up means defense upgrade so if you say gong 2up bang 3up, it means your upgrade status is 2,3 respectively. for shield upgrade you just say shield upgrade)

* Bal up (speed upgrade, i.e zerglings, hydra, zealots)

* Ggot bat cannon or sunken (when you or enemy has excessive cannon/sunken defense line) Ggot bat literally means flower garden.

* Gu reum Ssa be or Gu reum science vessel (literally means Science Vessel cloud, which means loads of them)

* Nak ha san drop (It literally means parachute drop, which means you don't drop your units all at one at one place but rather one by one at different places strategically)

* Detecting = same

* Mak multi (it's when you expand like there's no tommorow)

* Manner pylon (if you don't know what it is, then quit sc)

* Mechanic

* Mok dong zerg (it literally means shepherd or cowboy zerg, usually consists of millions of zerglings + ultralisks)

* Molae multi (when you expand secretively or in unexpected places, Molae = without knowing, Multi = expansion Koreans don't say expansion)

* Molae gun mool (when you build buildings in unexpected places)

* Bionic
* Bakanic (Bionic + mechanic, M&M + mechanic units)
* Burrow
* Bunkering
* Sunken Rush

* Yang dong Jak jun (It means when you're multi attacking, i,e overlord drop as well as attacking from the main)

* Jung Chal (Scout)

* Soon hwae gong yun (Instead of guerilla harrassing with small amount of units, it's when you take down your enemys' expansion one by one in full force it literally means round tour or road show)

I am sure there are shorter or easier ways of typing these terms. I am sure that there are also many mistakes. If anyone would like to correct this, please go ahead for the better of the community. I am aware that other than the general chit chat type phrazes, there are phrazes that have nothing to do with even channel discussion among these terms. I am sorry for not cleaning this up I just got home and I am tired. I will eidt it later with your help Ihope.

Thank you.

Righting this unbelivably long list than saying "Thank you." in the end is something that can happen only on Tl.net...

Thanks for the list it looks like you can manage a korean company with that vocabulary

Funny!^^

Well as mentioned in my post but not clearly enough is the fact that about 99% of the contence came from other sources which I was too tired to display. The list came from pasted notepad study material which was for my own personal use. I take only 1% credit for the text in the post^^ I hope it helps.

Thanks (for your time reading my post) lol

Np!

I was acutaly thinking of making something more organized and specific to BW as a project. Then I was going to post it here so that we all would have a common place to find such information and support. Although, this thread encouraged me to just thow what I had in notes to the cumminity, I think I will make due on my original plans soon.

I am happy to have helped^^

P.S. I am not korean and my translation and spell should have some errors to be aware. I would like to pass on the props that I may receive to all fluent korean translators and people of TL for their continued effort in bridging the language barrier. This has encouraged me to take the notes I have posted in the first place. I give you the pors.

The problem with speaking korean to koreans without actually knowing how to speak it is that even if you say the words 'i don't know how to speak any korean except this sentence' they will assume you can understand more.

Very good idea by day[9]. Although rekrul has good point, it would be fine to get 'just' games in ladder, unless you want to make real friends that's hard t.t

yeah i think many are 'just' looking to game. alot of players on brainclan don't understand what the hell i'm saying and i'm certain i could get a game as long as i knew a few functional phrases

who needs friends when you can be playing all the time : ]

i had one question - i've been watching a lot of vods lately and i'm starting to pick up on what some of the simpler game related words mean, but the korean commentators say a word that sounds an awful lot like "timing" or "tai ming" or something vaguely sounding like that quite frequently, what does this word mean?

Yea ur right. This 1 Korean i met i said hi in hangul but after i told him that was all i know he wouldnt stop talking in hangul to me. Even tho he was typing some english to others. So eventually another korean with good english came and started saying that "he says u know korean u typed it before " After that I stopped typing it

This is true. When I play on fish server Koreans always asusme I am Korean because it's a Korean server. They don't believe me when I say (in English) that I'm not, and keep talking at me in Korean all game. It must be even worse if you say a Korean sentence in the first place.

How can you learn a language merely by buying the keyboard that you want to learn? -_-;;;
