However, the mouse behavior is significantly different in Win 8.1 so I kept my old WinXP computer only for BW.

All I know is most of the time it doesn't work at all. This isn't the colour artifact problem where you either end exlorer.exe or have a black destop and pull up screen resolution. The entire screen was black despite running all the win xp compatability, etc. Try vista sp2 compatibility, disable display scaling, run in 640x480 resolution. That worked for me. I have had the same problems with other compatibility settings too. It still has some minor problems and I'll try it out with sp1 or something later, but the major problem of having a blank screen is solved. Under Display > Adjust desktop size and position, you can change the scaling to "no scaling" - this will allow you to play in fullscreen with a game size of the original 1x windowed size. I have a 1920x1080 monitor and I play this way. It's basically just an easy way to cover the entire screen in black, then overlay the game screen from windowed in the center of the black screen. I don't have that option and I can't disable it with dell graphics setup : /

Ive been googling for hours and cant seem to get it fixed. Ive seen a few threads on your board and figured maybe you guys know something i dont. On close launcher or check DWM again will be all restored" -mca64

You can even get IPX for LAN! So you need to buy a copy of an outdated OS to just play this one game. Not only that, your computer needs to be able to handle running that second OS and playing SC smoothly. While this could work for some people, it's not ideal.

You can even get IPX for LAN! Is Window XP even safe to run? I keep Window XP drive but refuse to enable any network functionality at all due to the discontinued support.

You'll get used to it. I prefer that than the quirks we had with Win7.

No, it is now reserved for adventurers, swashbucklers and daredevils. It is also highly flammable and may cause effects such as delayed metabolic acidosis, blindness, and death.

No it isn't but since you'd be running it in a VM, you have nothing to worry about unless personal/sensitive data is in your VM. Okay... so I can except garbled Bnet menus as long as I can play the actual game, but there's one last problem that I feel like I haven't seen mentioned around here. There is a considerable delay when telling a unit to perform an action. I loaded up the game on an old Windows 7 laptop just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. It's not mouse lag. The game responds to my mouse immediately when it comes to animating the reticle whenever I click somewhere on the terrain, but units have what feels like a full second delay before they react to the command. Has anyone else encountered this?

It seems like every solution to one problem requires conceding another. At first the game felt choppy, but running it with the ddemulate flag fixed that. Then I wanted to have working Bnet menus, so I used window mode in Chaoslauncher... but ddemulate doesn't work within the launcher. Has anyone else encountered this? How are you launching the game? Are you playing online or single player? Are you playing online versus the computer? Do you have LAN latency enabled? I tried playing online versus the computer once and it gave me a delay of around 1 second. When you play versus human opponents on the other hand and have LAN latency enabled, it feels amazing.

I was playing by myself on Bnet when testing this out this morning, and it did basically feel like latency. Actual game performance was fine, but the delay between my actions and my units' movements felt like latency. Maybe I need to forward some ports? I remember having to do that on my old Windows 7 laptop, but I haven't done it on my windows 8.1 machine yet. I don't want to use the LAN Latency trick since it's technically a hack.

You need to use the LatencyChanger if you want to decrease the built-in latency, yes it is technically a hack however all players in the game must use it or else disconnects will occur, so no one will have an advantage.

Barely, I would recommend US East for UMS. And if you're going to be on US East, I would also recommend using wDetector as an antihack.

Is it possible to connect to US East through a launcher like mca64? Looks like I can only connect to either ICC or Fish through it. Edit: Nevermind, I figured out how.
