Y'know, one way Blizzard could kill BW is by releasing some bad patches. But I think this is probably just a positive thing and there's nothing nefarious behind it. It's cool that they're supporting BW again though! Sonic deserves the honor for keeping it alive during its rough time. Smooth sailing from here!

Cool sponsor too.

If there was a bad patch then everyone would just downpatch anyways.

(There is precedent for this too.)

War 3 time ?

I was talking about patch 1.16 for BW.

Kespa teams and ICCUP stayed on 1.15.3 because 1.16 had a lot of lag issues and stuff.

Dead game?

What dead game?

This is going to be sick. Imagine if Sonic managed to usher in a revival of professional BW in Korea and it were to eclipse SC2. To already host a prize pool almost as big as some of the OSLs/MSLs is a huge thing.

I'm quite shocked Sonic isn't charging an admission fee for the offline Ro32 onwards. I feel like even if he charged like... $10 - $15, it would be quite a big boon.

I dont think he should have admission fees. If i understand it correctly, there has almost never been any in korea, even for the OSL/MSL etc. The prize pool is already amazing.
Glad to have parttaken in SSL7 and that the tournament seems to be ever growing. Sonic hwaiting!

Hold your horses! How about "SONIC that is awesome"? Blizzard has hardly done anything yet, after destroying the game.

As long as its just a graphics makeover (changing nothing else gamewise), i'd gladly play on bnet 2.0

Oh God no, simple graphics makeover - whose necessity is even debatable - is not enough to compensate for horror that is bnet 2.0...

A graphics make over would result in an engine change though, and we might lose some of the better bugs that make bw playable/balanced tho.

You could just change the sprites. Changing the graphics while keeping the gameplay identical is not a programming impossibility. I'm more worried about how it would look, considering Blizzard's art style since WarCraft III.

chess is not a better game with prettier game pieces. as long as stuff is easily distinguishable from other stuff then the graphics are fine; and from my point of view brood war does a better job of this than any other game with equally hectic action. There is no need to freshen up the graphics, brood war streamed at the highest quality looks pretty good.

And besides, any "graphic update" would by popular demand have to come with interface improvements which would force the rebalancing of everything and destroy 14 years of strategical development.

You'll go suicidal over a game? Ooookay...that's going overboard.

Holy crap I'm excited. I kind of am hoping for a Jangbi-Killer final. SSL8 champ vs the last OSL champ would be pretty amazing.

Killer is 5-1 vs Jangbi since Jangbi came back.

Surprised to hear that Blizzard will post about it but as mentioned, maybe it'll be a small post or something. Either way, good news. Interesting sponsor, hopefully it goes really well and we see them return for SSL10

this. No remake of BW please. Leave the game as is. The bugs like muta stacking are due to the engine and such. Making any changes to it even graphical will have a much more profound effect than is realized.

Not if you just change the sprites... It is possible to change only how the sprites look, and not how anything behaves.
