What is the significance of tomorrow's date? It's the date we get to know the sponsor!!! Yes, but is there any idea, why sonic thinks it will be more significant to announce specifically on that date, as opposed to today?
SKT is playing MBC tomorrow. Maybe SKT is sponsor :O

Or maybe MBC :D

Some BW historians please check any significant event that occurred on the Friday of December the 13th.

SKT and MBC are both on 4 wins so whoever wins this gets to take the 2k. Not saying it's the reason but it does hype up the match a bit.

Sonic will slaughter the players live on stream with a machete while wearing a hockey mask

A korean friend of mine told me (translation): - It will be sponsored by a music site (monkey3) - It will apparently be supported by Blizzard (what really?) - All of the games at his studio - Money prizes again

Is it a done official deal/or is it just in the works? Can you ask your korean friend?

Will do!
Edit: My korean friend confirms that it's apparently official. According to her, they will probably promote his league or something.

In short: Sponsor announced, it's Monkey3 Music (korean mp3 site)! They sponsored OGN's Sudden Attack league (Korean Counter-Strike) before and now they're sponsoring SSL9 so they have experience with esports. Prizepool confirmed: 1st place ~$14.000, 2nd place: ~$4.700, 3rd place: ~$1.900. (8th SSL was $4.600, $2.760, $1.840, $920.)
This is interesting: + Show Spoiler [Korean] +이번 소닉9차 스타리그는. 외국 스타1 가장 유명한 커뮤니티 팀리퀴드에서도 핫합니다.^^ Blizzard will help by promoting SSL9 through their official homepage and SNS. This is apparently official. ~"SSL9 afreeca broadcasts will reach the entire world. And is also hot in the world's most famous foreign community TeamLiquid.^^" [kekeke]
Commentary for SSL9: Kim Carry + Lee Seung Won (doesn't actually state Sonic as a commentator, but I doubt he wouldn't)
Other details: Some kind of HD support for SSL9 will be provided by Afreeca. Ro32 onwards will be offline, free admissions for viewers in the studio. There will be 2 "interview girls" at the offline, Sonic's version of stargirls. A lot else will be different from SSL8 (like these item giveaways at the studio).
Final message: "Star1 is still a game receiving love. bla As the famous foreign baseball player Yogi Berra said ""The game's isn't over until it's over." And that's the spirit..bla. ~Star is still alive and I believe it will be alive in 10 years as well! I'll do my best to make it happen. I hope you will all come to the offline and cheer on us." Sorry I don't make fun of his message I just don't know how to translate it well.
thanks Essbee and his friend

This is awesome news. I'm just a bit confused over one thing: Blizzard is now promoting a tournament which currently doesn't have a legitimate stream for foreigners (no offense snipe, your streams are awesome, but it is pretty-ghetto for a company to promote). To me it feels a bit weird for a large company like blizzard to promote a stream that isn't an official restream of ssl

They'll probably put up some news the day before the finals on their homepage/fb or something like that is what I'm imagining.

I really hope sonic decides to do dual stream on twitch aswell in that case. I don't really think promoting a Korean tournament that the rest of the world won't have direct access to is going to help that much :/ Still every little bit helps I guess :D Sonic Fighting!

Maybe they'll do more than that, i sincerely think Blizzard returning to BW like this means they may have finally came to terms with SC2 not being a good game
