![]() You can see the rosters here. A lot of the teams are structured where they'll have a ceo/leader and then a co-lead. Usually the lead and co lead are former pros or sponsors for the team (like Best & JD's college Basford is led by a tier 7 zerg). Then the roster usually has like ~6 mentors/profs who are former pros. Then there are the players who are ranked by different tiers. + Show Spoiler + God > King > Jack > Joker > Tier 0 > Tier 1 > ... > Tier 8 > Baby In each game, the players play against others of matching tiers from the other college. As you go lower in tier, it's funny because like the games can be "unloseable" for a pro and still they'll find ways to lose it. You get crazy builds and fun units because guardians are hard to handle when they outrange your static d and because mutalisks are hard to use a lower levels. These people are super dedicated too. In prep for the playoff games, the college members and coaches like went blackout mode where no one was streaming or earning any money just to practice (some said like up to 50 games a day). That's why you see the crazy emotions when they win unlike maybe ASTL which was a bit more lighthearted. Also why when Bisu won his game in the playoffs (really good game btw), he went home, turned on stream, and got 170K balloons which I think is like 15K USD. I just worry and hope they don't burn out because not everyone is fit to play and practice like a former pro. And then the storylines are fun and sad at the same time. Obviously there's an element of it being for show. + Show Spoiler + Like Terror/철구 has a college he ran with Shuttle and on Korea's Teachers Day, he turned on the broadcast and lots of members showed up and gave him gifts. When the first person just gave a bouquet of flowers without an envelope, he made her log in to her Afreeca account and then donated himself her full balloon balance of ~$140. Then he hit her on top of her head with the flowers. XD That's why my favorite college to follow is Calm Sung Women's University which is Calm and Actions (name Kim Sung Dae) university. They are only 2 coaches and their roster is like half the size of other colleges. All Zerg because no other coaches and all female players (the joke is that they all simp for Calm). They explicitly are like "our college is going to win by the power of friendship; no toxicity allowed." Even after they lost in the round of 8, they just hang out and play a ton of games together (PubG, Kart Rider, SC UMS games), so it's a lot of fun and positive vibes ![]()

The real reason the Star University is exciting is we get to see pretty girls playing Brood War xD.

Hell maybe even since the end of the proleague era. This is the best shot Brood War has had at raising a new generation of players. Not only do you have lower tier players being tought by pros, it is also happening on stream for anyone at home to watch and learn as well. Sure a lot of the players are girls, but heck just imagine if all the twitch girls that stream half naked from a plastic pool and write sub names on their arms would instead learn brood war and take their incel audience along for the ride. It is truly amazing. And yes some of the games are low tier, but imo that just adds to the entertainment value. You can follow a low tier players stream and watch them become better and better as they are being trained in their university. It would be amazing if tasteless and artosis could cover it, just to bring more attention to the university scene for non-koreans. But given that they couldn't get ASTL, my hopes aren't super high for that.

I watched an audition where 2100 was matched against tier 3 college player and it was like amateur vs pro, so there is actual growth. But most important thing IMO is, that those semi- and exproes who were streaming BW as part time have now constant source of income with enviroment to practice. The likes of Bishop, Noob and Yoon for example. Dunno, maybe Scan could shed some information about this, I know he is in JSA now. (Lights team)

Yup occasionally the pros play if the lineups call for it and they also definitely put a lot of effort into it. More than everyday proleague because they have like 5 day notice of the matchup

Like there are sponsorships (winning team of university league season gets ~$50k) from smaller businesses but idk about corporations getting back in

It'll probably take several weeks as I go through everything, but I wanted to get the collection updated so that the community can reminisce on MSL and so the growing Brood War audience can have a way to see incredible matches in one place LEGENDARY!!! Thank you very very much, dude ![]()
