my TV that I use as a monitor has a 4:3 mode that puts the black bars for me. I switch to 4:3 every time I open BW. | ||

 On my old comp with NVIDIA it did have the maintain aspect ratio option. I miss those blackbars. However I do prefer stretched BW over windowed mode! | ||

If you don't like windowed mode because it doesn't fill enough of your monitor you can set your monitor to a lower resolution so the bw in windowed mode takes up more of your screen, I had this same problem. Simply could not get full screen to work and I cannot play with it stretched. | ||

The problem with my asus laptop it constantly shuts down why does my asus laptop automatically get the black borders on the sides but my new laptop goes widescreen? | ||

Your Asus laptop is probably full of dust so it can't cool properly anymore and thus shuts down. You could try to open up the bottom and gently remove the dust. (Don't use plastic bristle brushes like a toothbrush, because it can get statically charged and perhaps damage a component. Better to use a toothpick and a hand vacuum for example.) Not the answer you're looking for, but maybe as a temporary solution. | ||
