But taking a look at the bigger picture: - Iccup has mostly around 200 to 400 users online, it's not always easy to find good ladder games. A lot of people i play with complain regular, that it's hard to ladder past ~ C Ranks, just coz you don't find games really well. - When was the last foreign big time tournament for high levels? Your correct, that was TLS 3, and that was around 2013. You might ask, why do we need those events? Well i think, they motivate a ton of guys to play again, just for trying out in the Qualifiers. And those guys motivate their friends to play to etc. - in general: TL's community is still very passionate about BW, but sometimes i get the impression the passion is limited to watching/covering korean BW and does not extend to play yourself/ organize/write do stuff for our scene. Which is important i think, coz just watching Kor BW and accept that in our scene not a lot happens anymore, is not what at least i want to do.. - defiler tournaments are by far the biggest attraction "we" still have to offer and they are getting rare too So, when writing this im much more referring to the big picture, then to me lacking incentive to play/organize stuff. I love Brood War, but I don't have any friends that play it anymore so I don't really play it anymore either. If I see an interesting event pop up, like the TLS or Crimson Starleague, then that gives me some motivation to play for a while, but I end up burning out or not really having any friends to play with. My thrill came from improving with friends, watching replays with each other, playing clan wars, etc. As far as the events, it's kind of a paradox. There's a lot of people, like me, who would absolutely play if there was a huge tournament. For the first TLS, there were a ton of people that came back from SC2 or other things to participate. The thing is, these people will only play in big events and don't really want to spend time laddering. However, the people running the events don't want to waste their time and want to host events only if they know people are gonna play.. and looking at the very small amount of people on iCCup, why would you want to risk wasting your time?

There's lots of contributing factors. I think one of the big things that kept BW going so long in general was old BNet. All Blizzard game players in one place, when a new game comes out a bunch of new people come on the server, half of them start playing chatcraft and getting convinced to try the older games with their new friends. Not to mention it being much easier to do ums and other stuff, which lots of people never got bored of. Then from that, some much smaller percentage trickle into the private competitive server, and that's how that stays alive at all. Then they discover there's really good players on the server, and there's a proscene, and actually bw is kind of crazy (except not anymore). ChatCraft a surprisingly big part of the BW experience. You could chatcraft on iccup, but not really with people from other games.

I get that it is nice if people take the effort to upload games and that a thank you is deserved and sincere, but maybe it can be done elsewhere? It would give us a much cleaner thread to browse the latest games. Again, it's just an idea.

The COSL is a Chinese league with some foreign/Korean invitees, see last season's http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/China_OSL_5 In the midst of the tournament, they hold some show matches during the off days, so PianO vs ZerO was likely was one of those ![]()

You could chatcraft on iccup, but not really with people from other games. This is really true. I was playing SC2 a while back and was wanting to find a group of people to play with, or perhaps join their clan. In BW, especially on iCCup, this was pretty easy. Each clan has their own page on the website and you can see all chat channels using the /chs command. I was able to join my first clan in BW by joining their channel, making friends with people, and eventually becoming good enough to join. But in SC2, I have absolutely no idea how you'd even do it, because hardly anyone even uses the chat channels and there's no way to view all of them. The social aspect of BW chat channels can never, ever be stressed enough.

Hey, you just need to make some new friends. I'm new to brood war partially because I can't/couldn't host, which prevented me from getting games going on a consistent basis. However, now that I've made some friends we are pumping out games like there's no tomorrow. Just saying, you're on teamliquid! Post your info in the practice partner thread, go play a few games and add your opponents to your friendlist and you will make friends relatively quickly. I'm still looking for other people to play with for example (hint ![]()

For example, my 16:10 monitor will only properly display 4:3 inputs like 640 * 480 when I use the analog input. If i use digital they are stretched to full screen. So try looking into the documentation for your video card and monitor, or just mess with every seemingly relevant option in your graphic card control panel and the on-screen menu options on your monitor.
