+ Show Spoiler + On April 21 2012 02:55 UTL_Unlimited wrote: Continuing on from previous post: 16) SKT mentions that they only practiced for 2 weeks and then because of proleague, couldn't play it really anymore. 17) One of the coaches mentioned that actually the recent proleague was supposed to be SC2 proleague because KESPA strongly suggested that they would use SC2. So they practiced for SC2, and then when it was SC1, the team went wtf and didn't do so well this league (Kim Un Dong...whose coach is that? Apparently Woonjin?) SKT Coach was apparently on the same boat: when the new maps came out, he was just baffled. 18) Apparently Woonjin gets the fastest information in regards to what happens in Proleague (whether or not SC2 will be used or not) Or so the SKT coach says. 19) Kim un Dong mentions that a lot of his players are GM and that in the beginning, the players felt they were forced to play, but after playing a LOT of games, they really enjoy playing SC2 now. 20) Kim Ga Ul (Samsung Khan Coach) mentioned that her team's practice regiment is so strict that they haven't done almost anything with SC2. She believes that Samsung will do the worst when SC2 appears. (If team's practice regiment is so strict, why is Stork so cell phone game savvy...?) 21) KT coach is worried that with the new SC2 implementation, with only one gaming channel and the number of games reduced, will put even more conditions that will be simply too much for the scene. However, he also believes that with the new game, more offline tournaments and events can be planned, so it might bring a new refreshing feeling to the scene. 22) Team 8 coach wishes that OGN will do something with SC2 before the actual proleague. Having informational programs that explain what Starcraft 2 is needed so that the commentary can still be at its high level analysis and the fans will understand the game before watching. 23) All coaches agree that the fans must be thought of first since even if the players show good games, if the fans don't know what's going on, no result will show. Since there's not much time left, action must be taken quickly. Apparently their used to be a program called "Yong Teacher's manner pylon" that explained SC1, and while it got some criticism as to why such a noob friendly program existed, it apparently got pretty good views and rating. The coaches believe this sort of program needs to exist for the incoming SC2 scene. 24) An amateur tournament needs to exist as well. Sure it might not get a ton of hits, but it will encourage fans and newer players to practice and LEARN the game, and inherently, they will watch more SC2 on proleague as well. This apparently needs to be tried at LEAST once. But CJ coach understands that since the Amateur tourneys never get a ton of hits, OGN also has to tread carefully before making such programs, especially since LoL gets so much hits and views. 25) Coaches wish for more Gaming channels, but more importantly, need to have internet broadcasting sites as well. Or more need for it. 26) So KT coach says the thing about Flash. But then Samsung Coach Kim Ga Ul says that Flash apparently told her he wants to play Protoss. Then Team 8 coach made a joke about how he'll force Jaedong to play Terran so force Flash to play Zerg (TROLOLOLOL) 27) The coaches believe if they contact their previous players who went to SC2, (MVP for Woongjin, then there is Nestea, July, MMA,) then they can get the help they need to make their players top notch. 28) The coaches wanted to approach these players during their preseason (for SC2 players) for help, but the coaches themselves had obligations and missed the timing so they are a bit sad about that. 29) There is a fear that if SC2 does NOT go well, both SC1 and SC2 will just suffer. Since they are the lifeblood of eSports, if things do not go according to plan with SC2 this season, then they fear it may all be lost. 30) The future of eSports is the fans. While many say the passion for SC1 has died out, in the most recent finals, the ratings was really good and many watched. It is also important to EMPHASIZE the star players. More star players will appear even in SC2 and they must cater and expose them to the public to gain the fans and the love. 31) Coach last words to the fans: -Kim Un Dong (seriously is this Woongjin's?) : he is sorry that his team hasn't done well this proleague and that while he is also afraid of the incoming switch, he hopes that the fans will continue to root for the TEAM and the PLAYERS. -Kim Ga Ul (Samsung Coach): She doesn't have much to say, but hopes that the fans will root for the team with an open mind to the new game that will most inevitably come. -Ju Hoon (Team 8 Coach): He is sad that while the passion for his team was high, they couldn't get the results. He is also sad that while the passion for the game is still going strong, he understands that a lot were disappointed with the lack of games. He hopes that while he understands that fans will most likely cringe at the new game, that they at least accept the change and will root for the team and the fans. -Lee Jae Gun (Who?) He sees SC2 as a new challenge and they must beat it. He knows that even if it's not even SC2 they will play, his team and everyone will practice hard to prepare. He hopes the fans will always support them. -Kim Dong Woo (CJ Coach) Hopes that the fans will always be passionate for the eSports Industry. -Lee Jee Hoon (Who?...oh apparently MBC Coach) He's happy that all the coaches even after the incident. He hopes that everyone will work together to make eSports a better thing. -Pak Young Yoon (Who?) = Everyone support us pl0x. That's the end. I think that the thing as us, the BW watchers, should understand is that even when the switch occurs, we should still root passionately for the players and the team, even if we don't like the game. I know that the BW elitists really enjoy BW (I grew up with it, I learned English from it, my life REVOLVED around BW. My daddy and I went to the fucking OSLs and shit and I got autograph from Grr when I was 5 woot!) but if we want the players to be able to play and still have a job, we should always be vocal and show our support and prove that the BW supporters, and more importantly, the player supporters still exist! So please don't trash SC2! I don't even play it but I am willing to at least 'accept it' if it means our players can still play! Thank you for translating!!!

+ Show Spoiler + On April 21 2012 01:09 SCkad wrote: ok i am a SC2 fan and i'll try and give my point of view without resorting to the word elitism. Graphical Style is more mature- SC2 is higher quality that is fact, and a graphical style is always going to be a subjective thing as whether you like it or you don't is going to colour your opinion. I mean Modern Art looks like insanity with a paintbrush to me but to others it is a brilliant expression of art, both are true from a point of view but neither can be objectively "Better" than the other. the units clumping AI - admittedly can be a problem but in fairness you guys had the dragoon AI which was a mind of its own was it not? if so which extreme is better is again going to be an opinion but i'll put my hands up and admit it is far from perfect. Better Balance- SC2 is still in its balancing phase which Brood War has had finished for years, not only that but SC2 has two expansions planned that will alter its balance considerably, add to this that BW is not perfectly balanced either- it is better don't get me wrong but your balance is also dependant on maps as well i believe, this problem will be sorted eventually even if the community has to do it itself and remember the game could have fundamental changes with its expansions that remove these "ability or else" situations. Diversity and dynamic- this will come with time and experience the brood war of today is not the brood war of release day is it? Level of Play- i'm not sure what i can say here, on one hand the multi tasking thing could be a player factor in which case it would only really be fixed by players themselves, but on the other the idea of just because SC2 doesn't need as much multi tasking (no possible disputing that from macro perspective, depends on playstyle for micro) does it necessarily make it worse? and would these gods of BW have excellent multi tasking even in SC2 because no one has truly reached the skill cap of either game and so it doesn't mean that if Bisu switched from BW he all of a sudden lose his ability to multitask he might just redistribute what he multitasks on. Tournament overloading- well there are a lot of tournaments for SC2 but i'm not sure this idea of 3 tournaments only is the best thing possible, it doesn't help that while "major" tournaments are easily defined by BW community (OSL, MSL, Proleague) there is no real definitive agreement from the SC2 community (personally i'd say GSL, MLG, and Dreamhack but others would say IPL and NASL at least are more important). More Tournaments adds more variety to the Pros you see but consequently you see less of the Pros you love which is acceptable for SC2 i'd say as the true "elite" have yet to be discovered but isn't acceptable to you BW guys who are used to being able to follow an individual's progress. The History- do i need to say why SC2 doesn't have this but BW does? Really? Now with that done on to whats happening for the BW guys. To be honest i'd want you guys to stay but no one can force you to, you have experiences and insights that the newer blood from SC2 (i'm one of those btw if you hadn't already guessed) will never have and you were the foundation of both Starcraft and this community which i both enjoy. i was born in '96 so was 2 when brood war was released so until i picked up sc2 i had no idea it even existed, yet while i enjoy sc2 because i've been there from near the beginning i find it hard to watch the BW stuff but i know that even if i can't apreciate the skills BW players have since ive never played the game, i can still respect them just like i respect the BW vets, you built the community which i now enjoy so thanks for what you have done and good luck with what you will do, be it stay with sc2 or leave. A really bad post + Show Spoiler + On April 21 2012 01:29 Dirtysocks wrote: Please, go cry that BW is dying somewhere else. Create a thread and go there. I am fed up with every single post about swich to SC2 telling me who it is not an esports and Bw forever etc... If you enjoy BW go watch all the games from the dawn of BW you have 10 years of games. SC2 is new like BW once was. If you watch the games from 2000 you can also tell the game is boring, unstructured, NEW! I started to watch BW way back in the time, but I am happy to see ESPORTS to grow. Not to mention this is still business. Why not switch to SC2 and get much more viewers. They have to see how much money is outside of korea. A bannable post + Show Spoiler + On April 21 2012 01:36 Dirtysocks wrote: Well BW general is going to die as soon as they switch, My bad, enjoy your threads. ![]() User was warned for this post User was warned for this post Many people have given their piece here (and left their peace as well). As a fan of BOTH games (although I am a hardcore BW fan more than anything), I am both excited and scared. Excited because of what could happen to SC2 (which is fun to play but is a bit more difficult to follow due to having such a spread-out scene) and scared of what will happen to BW players (who have devoted so much time and talent to a game that's about to be phased-out). I don't really know how to react to this. I play and watch both games extensively, and while BW is presently the more fun to watch (it's incredibly amazing if you've played it and know how difficult it is), SC2 is the smoother game to play (as many have stated, it caters to the casuals more than anything). However, just because SC2 caters to casuals does not mean that it cannot be turned into something amazing at the hands of the BW maestros. The biggest hurdle for BW fans will be, I think, the fact that BW pros will NOT automatically dominate. As stated by the coaches, this is essentially a reset button. So for TBLS fans, A-Class fans, and the odd Woongjin Terran fans (sorry for that), it'll be pretty tough to swallow loss after loss - especially if it's incurred at the hands of a current SC2 pro who was a nobody in BW. As a BW fan, however, I'd like to take the approach to enjoying SC2 in two ways: First, I want to have faith in my favorite players. I have faith that Bisu, being the best multitasking machine in BW today, is capable of learning SC2, adapting to the current strategies, and pouring his skill and soul into SC2, thereby creating ART from raw material. This is not unlike Boxers early adventures in BW. However, this will also require more innovation. SC2 is played so much, by so many dedicated professionals, that innovation becomes a very difficult thing. That said, I trust in my BW heroes. They will need time: months, maybe a year, to adjust. But I expect that they will improve more than the majority of the current professional SC2 scene. Second, I respect the skill of those playing SC2. I think that people who say that only the noobs in BW played SC2 don't really appreciate what a "second chance" can do for a person. In BW, many aspiring and talented progamers fell by the wayside due to a lack of effort, a lack of skill, and a lack of honest-to-goodness talent at the game. When they turned to SC2, they saw the game as a breath of fresh air: a second life. A second chance at playing a game you love and living off it. People underestimate the power of inspiration. I personally believe that the "scrubs" who are now dominating SC2 are simply those talented former BW (or other RTS) people who found a way to believe in themselves again. And so when (if?) Flash later on gets to play MVP, or Jaedong plays Nestea or DRG, or Bisu plays Parting or Hero, then I will not imagine the battle as a BW GOD vs SC2 MORTAL but two SC2 gladiators going at each other with everything they have. In other words, I will not disrespect the SC2 scene (which is distinct from disrespecting the game, which has much to improve upon) by belittling its heroes. They don't deserve that. BW grew out of the same inspired breath that SC2 now grows from. Let's not poison that with our grief. In time the flowers will bloom again. While I still absolutely detest some of Blizzard's decisions (such as lack of LAN), I continue to have hope in the heroes of my youth. In Bisu, invincible multitasking handsome Protoss dragon. In Flash, the Ultimate of all Ultimates. Whichever path they decide to take, however much they stumble, it is not for me to judge them wrong; to judge what they do, what game they play, as bad. It is sufficient for me to witness their rise and their fall and, like a child on Christmas eve, to pray for their ascension in all my wide-eyed innocence, with as much hope as I can muster. Also, I pray SC2-only fans who disrespect BW, who disrespect the greatest players who ever played it... I pray for their enlightenment. Otherwise, they do not deserve the eyes with which to see the heroes of the past, the present, and the future, play their game in all its potential.

Top 3 comments (by user votes) 1) The only coach with similar thoughts as mine is STX Coach Kim... the saddest thing is that the young passionate progamers that dreamed of playing SC1 on stage is now forced to play a different game. 2) The subtitle about how fans hold the key is utter bullshit, it (the article) is saying no matter how SC2 turns out they're going to go with it so we should shut the fuck up and adapt. 3) So the mixed format not a strong speculation but for certain now... I'm still angry but I better prepare myself for it. Still I'd have never imagined of my eSports ending this way...

I just hope this switch to sc2 when it is done that everything goes as awesome as possible for all sides. I do wish bw didn't have to die but it seems inevitable.
