I have this wierd problem when I'm running Starcraft Broodwar: everything feels a bit laggy and slow. It's not usuall internet lag because it remains when i'm playing single player and on other computers it works just fine. My windows is kinda a slow in general and i guess i should format the hard drive sooner or later. Still sc bw isn't a very demanding game and i don't get why it's lagging (other games seems to work fine but it's hard to say since i almost only play sc bw and minor issues can really distract me compared to when im playing other games). Has anyone else had the same problem?
btw I just defragmented my harddrive and removed any stupid programs that shouldnt be on it (and tried killing programs that i'm not using before playing sc bw) and it doesn't matter.
My specs are:
Windows Xp
Intel T2300 1.66 Ghz 1,99 gb ram 80 gb hardrive of some sort some kind of intergrated graphics card.
So frustrating playing a game from 98 and still get the feeling that my computer can't manage it =p

Try turning off color cycling in Video options while in game.
|
Are you sure you are playing on "fastest" settings? Check to be sure.

J.dong: Haha, yes I'm sure . Tried to turn off colo cycling. Seemed to work better that game hard to say because it sometimes it seems ok then the day after it doesn't work. Thx for the tip anyway

how full is your harddrive? that tends to happen when hardrives become full and you said you had a tiny HDD so im assuming it could be this?
might have better posted int the tech support forums

Lol hardware shouldn't affect BW tbh, it runs on my shitty 9 year old laptop that didn't get its HDD replaced.

Before playing:
Task manager -> explorer.exe (end process) -> play
THank me later

Hardware have nothing to do with it, the server on iccup ive heard are in russia so you get some lag, much like in sc2 na players on KR servers
|
the command /ping shows the lag btw

Get C cleaner for your windows Xp, clean the trash and your regedit file. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Ps: dont use choas luncher on iccup. If you cant fix it., you will have to go play on brain server.
Good luck.

Why are you all talking about server lag and ping and such? He clearly stated he has the problem in single player against computers as well -_-.
It's not an internet problem and it's not that his hardware can't handle it. Does it run any differently in windowed mode?

When BW starts to lag open task manager and sort all processes by CPU usage, looks like some background process is consuming your CPU. Can be some autoupdater, antivirus or virus itself.

Can integrated graphics cards handle BW? I know the requirements are low, but...

It is likely that you have spyware or something hogging up the computers resources. You said windows is kinda slow too so I'd say just give it the good ol reformat and all will be well.

I've played it on a 5 year old computer with integrated graphics and it runs fine.

Of course, yes, tested. We even did run BW on some old shitty machines with 256MB RAM and integrated graphics and it worked well (in LAN environment, so no net lag issues). Since this is XP, killing explorer will not solve the problem. Windows should be fast enough on that machine, so I too recommend reinstalling from the scratch. Apart from the likely virus (or anti-virus software that is WAAAY to suspicious), it might be just system trying to execute some strange activities for a lost and forgotten files and registry entries that ceased to exist (as Windows habit is to do so INFINITELY)

Could it be something from the sound? I've seen similar issue with lag spikes (and even complete hang sometimes) in offline mode - so not from network - which turns out to be from the sound. Some sounds just lag out to execute and the game freezes for a couple of seconds when that happens, and might even hang the whole computer fatally (for restart). Suspect the solution is tweaking the audio settings from dxdiag to lower, which usually helps with older games.
