Should kespa ban these four players if they play a non-recognisable game, eg sc2, I think so or at least give them so sort of penalty. It would be like if a couple of top formula 1 drivers coming over to nascar and doing a couple a show races. Also these four great players might get less attention than the players from the others games and that could tarnish their confidence and belittle them as bw players.

Wouldn't really say so, the lead designers for sc1 are still at Blizzard. Just Browder is leading the design for sc2.

Do you have any sources to back your statement ?

Chris Metzen, who was lead designer for sc1, is the writer for sc2 and Vice president of creative development of blizzard. He also does other voice work.

^ I've done this before and indeed many of the names in sc1 credits are still in SC2 credits. Of course a few didn't show up as it has been over 10 years and many people moved on but the people who claim it's a different team are a little more incorrect than they'd like to imagine. It was (still is) a larger team with most of the main guys.

funny the wiki says he doesn't have much involvement with sc2 after his 1998 involvement with sc1 except these " In Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, Metzen voices the marine units." .

Well flash is still recovering from the surgery isn't he?

but would've been nice to see flash even if he didn't play.

I'm pretty sure they're going to get their well deserved introductions as the superstar brood war players that they are, either from the casters, press interviewers or Blizzard themselves. I dont think Blizzard would be so careless as to just invite these guys over and introduce them to the majority of people who dont play Brood War as "these random BW guys". So personally I wouldn't worry about them being "belittled" unless they actually make them play SC2 which they (pressumably) dont play much and therefore lose to the likes of MVP/Nestea/etc.

Yea that is why Browder is there for lead designer. Looks like he, Chris Metzen, is just doing the writing for sc2. But he is still part of the team.

That's just wrong in my opinion , you don't demote a designer with such good contribution in broodwar for the next sequel of starcraft .

Maybe they asked him and he didn't want to do it? I mean it's basically speculation unless someone at blizzcon could ask them :D

Shamelessly taken from Optical shot

*edit 3: MY OPINION [not a translation] [not official stance by Blizzard or KeSPA] is that this is good for eSports (yes I like to spell it like that) in general. As long as Blizzard doesn't force these players into doing anything against their free will, the players will have a good time and be exposed to more "worldwide" eSports. Fans attending Blizzcon will be able to meet their favourite superstars, wet their pants in more than one way, take pictures, and whatever. Fans in Korea will hopefully take this as a good will measure from Blizzard that SCBW has not been forgotten. The point is that the players should be free to choose what game they want to play - both professionally and recreationally. More exposure like this will help players make that choice.

He wasn't demoted. Metzen pretty much only did story in sc1 (and most other Blizzard games. He's the story guy!) but he did help design & I'd imagine he assisted in sc2 as well since he's one of the top dogs at Blizzard. The lead designer of BW was actually Rob Pardo and hint hint he directed sc2 stuff too. (with Dustin under him)

Do recurring names even matter here? My statement was more of a comment on changed patching methodology, game design and economic motives. All the people could be the same but that in no way would 'de-legitimize' my comment.
TLDR: Despite having half the same units, can anybody say that they can see the BW in SC2?

Though Acti-Blizzard can probably afford it, base salary for these 4 guys alone is gonna be like 600/700k a year.

IIRC Metzen was heavily involved in WoW, so probably he didn't have time. I might be wrong though.

I agree. If you've been a Blizz fan since the first Warcraft/Diablo, then you probably heard over the years that the Blizzard who made D2 and BW is not the same Blizzard we are seeing today. I follow the Diablo scene, and some fans of that series also share the same view.

Thinking again about how much time is at Blizzcon to allow for showmatches...

I estimated from the schedules that Blizzcon 2010 had about 14 hours of Starcraft (disregarding the infamous delays). Without a WC3 tournament this time around, Blizzcon 2011 will have an estimated 17 hours of SC2, 20 if you include GSL. Of course, breaks and delays have to be factored in, but there is definitely more time for Starcraft this year on the RTS stage.

Now, I previously said that there might not be enough time for showmatches considering how packed the schedule appeared, but considering that Blizzard was able to hold both their Invitational tournament and their BoxeR vs Fruitdealer match within a tighter schedule last year, I now think that perhaps additional showmatches of some sort are actually more possible this year with more time dedicated to SC2.

However, I don't remember if Blizzard was able to broadcast all their games from the 2010 Invitational, especially considering that there were so many delays last year. As a result, maybe the increased number of time slots for SC2 may be dedicated to broadcasting more Invitational matches rather than possibly broadcasting showmatches with the BW pro, unless Blizzard has some more secret, surprise last-minute arrangements and announcements in store.

edit:
Thinking more about the schedule...
If Blizzard can fix the issues with delays, then there may be a TON more matches being broadcast during this Blizzcon. However, SC2 is notorious for having loooooong setup times, which may be a key cause of most delays and long breaks in SC2 tournaments, so perhaps there will inevitably still be quite a few delays at this Blizzcon unless Blizzard figures out a workaround solution.

Nevertheless, if the BW pros do end up playing SC2 showmatches, they probably don't care about setting up to tweak graphics settings and hotkeys, so they would be logistically much easier to handle than the actual SC2 competitors. Also, BW doesn't take too long to set up, especially if the BW pros don't really care about the results of the showmatches. Consequently, I think showmatches between the BW pros would be pretty easy to set up whether they are playing BW or SC2.

Relax, BW guys, I ignore SC2 as much as you do, but there won't be happening anything bad soon.

BW is still much better to watch (IMO) because it is much harder, faster etc. But I love to play and watch SC2 - very much. It is great to see community evolution, foreigners that can compete, so many pro teams, so many international competitions, so many great games. It is not korea only game anymore, foreigners jumped to the train from the start of the sc2 and they keep holding on.

So, BW is better to watch but SC2 is playable for all at highest level..

After my little intro I will say this:

I hope those players will come to sc2 in near future because sc2 has a future, BW is on ice and it is sad to watch how player as Jaedong doesn't know where will he play or will he play. It is sad to see that they don't know when will season start, what about MSL etc, etc. And with sc2 you have tournaments every weekend, tournaments through whole week, better ladder.

If situation will be better and KeSPA do something to bring back competitions then I would love to see all the best BW players at one place. But, imagine this, BW will last at most around 2 more years (and I am an optimist) and what will be with players after that? It will be very hard even for JD, Bisu or Flash to switch after so long period.
