Three days ago, SC's most famous fangirl, Light Girl, was diagnosed with Fulminant Hepatic Failure (one kind of acute liver failure), which has a high mortality rate. She was admitted into the ICU and now needs a liver transplant. Yesterday, word about this spread on twitter and the online community, with commentator Lee Seung Won appealing to fans to extend their help. + Show Spoiler +
Light Girl, 22, is a very prominent Light/MBC/BW fangirl. She started appearing at all of Light's matches in 2010 so MBC's caster Kim Chul Min dubbed her "Light Girl". Since then, there has been much discussion in the esports community about her.
This is incredibly sad news. Even if you cannot offer any physical assistance, please pray for her!

Light, having heard the news, immediately visited a local hospital to make blood donation towards the girl's surgery. Bonus: in the comments: "Jaetler to forcibly extract and donate Woongjin Team blood to the girl's surgery"
Update 1st Sept
Upon hearing the news about Light Girl yesterday, KT Rolster sent in 100 blood donor registration cards this morning they had previously collected for Violet's illness [thanks Kalent!]. They wanted to repay the love shown by esports fans to Violet when he fell ill with Leukemia. KT hopes that this gesture on their part will inspire more fans to donate blood. Light Girl is currently at Seoul National University Hospital. Her liver transplant surgery is pending the results of compatibility tests her family are undergoing.

Light girl is walking again, she will be discharged from the hospital very soon, maybe tomorrow. She wasn't able to watch the OSL Finals but she was supporting the eventual winner. Still, the road to full recovery will be very long, so wish her all the best.
Update 20th Sept Light Girl has been discharged from the hospital. Her first 10 rounds of meds: + Show Spoiler +

Scroll down to Progamer spotlight in this link, open the spoiler and you'll see a section called who is light girl, open that and you'll get more info/pics. Written by Ryo too :D
I know very little about medicine but from what Lee Seung Won tweeted and after googling it myself, if she doesn't get a successful liver transplant, the chances of survival are very low. I really hope she will find a liver donor match and recover from this.
I must say things look pretty bleak. She needs a donor who's a match plus successful surgery plus her body not rejecting the new liver. I think the odds are better than hyuk wins the next OSL.
That said, is it wrong for me to automatically think this would be a good premise for a Korean Drama between her and Light?
It saddens me that such young people on my age like Violet and Light Girl could end up with this kind of serious illness . I sincerely hope that she can get better .
Well shit. I've always found cute fangirls so diligently following these nerds who hardly do anything besides BW amusing in a warm fuzzy way. A really bad timing for random bad news.
LIGHT GIRL 화이팅!! Please keep us updated Ryo and hopefully she can get a partial transplant from one of her family members T_T damn that must be scary as hell.
Ahh just read that Light will visit her. She'll be a bit happy from all that and damn Light immediately went to donate when he found out about her.
Light is going to visit her in the hospital. Light Girl is going to make a miraculous recovery. Light and Light Girl get married and have a Light Baby.

I believe. I BELIEVE!
Ugh, I think few will be dissatisfied if the only prediction to materialise is her recovering
Good luck to her and may she recover quickly. If she is still in trouble come October, I hope Light wins his first SPL game and 2-0's his MSL Ro32 group.
Damn...even fan of BW gets hit with bad stuff... She's pretty btw... Light, now is your chance to save her! If I was in Korea, I would help her out alright...

I don't know, it came as a big shock to everyone. As I understand, she has been ill recently but only 3 days ago, after she was admitted into hospital with high fever did test results reveal that she has acute liver failure. This is very sad.

Disgusting news. I had no clue who she was before, but nobody deserves what she got. Apparently her condition is very serious if she needs a transplant. Let's hope she pulls through, for Light, for BW and most of all for herself.

Well I doubt that people have the vods and times where she is shown... Why don't you do some research? Go to TLPD punch in light, filter for individual leagues and dive in. Probably will get to see some zergs dying horribly as a bonus.

Haven't seen her before because I don't watch many Light matches....at least I don't think I have. Wish her all the best and hope she has a speedy recovery. Diseases and health problems always suck.

KT sent 100 blood donor registration card for Light girl. It was apparently the left-overs from what they got when Violet needed them.

Yes, and you can live without having the entirety of a liver, which is true. Are you going to deny medical history?
No no no no no. The deal with liver donations is that you can donate up to like... 2/3rds of your liver i believe, and the rest of your liver will grow back. either that or 1 third
The liver has some pretty sick regeneration capabilities. Regardless of the liver science, I hope she has better days ahead of her. Light has one hell of a fan, glad to see that he is taking interest.

The liver actually regenerates, so you can actually give up to 1/3 of it.

I'm not a doctor or anything but im pretty sure you can take the half of a liver and use that, and it will regenerate/work.
I might just be talking out of my ass though.
Yeah, the liver will regenerate. This is however very sad and I wish all the best for LightGirl and her family.
This is really sad, it does almost seem like a drama plot. I'm glad there is still some hope for her though, I hope she can find a donor and recover successfully.
Uuh. This is going to sound grim, but I'm not joking.
For her to get a liver, does that mean **ahem** someone has to die? I'm not too knowledgeable on the matter, but I'm working under the assumption that you can't function without a healthy liver...
Do livers from old people work just as well when transplanted to young patients? Or are livers from other young people more optimal? Or is the age of the liver irrelevant, and comparability the only important issue?
As far as I know (and I could be very wrong), it's possible for a compatible donor to donate a part of their liver, as the liver regenerates.
Got this off Wikipedia:
In a typical adult recipient LDLT, 55 to 70% of the liver (the right lobe) is removed from a healthy living donor. The donor's liver will regenerate approaching 100% function within 4–6 weeks, and will almost reach full volumetric size with recapitulation of the normal structure soon thereafter. It may be possible to remove up to 70% of the liver from a healthy living donor without harm in most cases. The transplanted portion will reach full function and the appropriate size in the recipient as well, although it will take longer than for the donor.
My prayers go out to her. She's such a dedicated and loyal fan, that it just breaks my heart to see such a tragedy occur to such a great person. Get well soon Light Girl<33 Woongjin hwaiting!

Statistically it's most likely an acetaminophen (active ingredient of tylenol) overdose, it doesn't take that much to cause severe liver damage (especially if she had reduced liver function from something else like hepatitis or alcoholism or something)

I'm pretty sure it has to come from someone who is a donor. Like on people's license it says im a organ donor. I'm no expert but im pretty sure its hard to find and organ donor unless your $$$ of course, but for the average person there is a lot of specifications that have to be met to make sure the recipient can even accept the organ. (ex. similar blood i would assume or to make sure the organs and the body will be compatible)

I don't know how the law works in the US or in Korea, but in France you're considered as a potential donor unless you specified before your death that you did not want to donate your organs. However in reality doctors will ask the family permission to do so most of the time. Most of the organs for donation do not come from old people, they come from people who are clinically dead (meaning their cerebral tissue is dead) but with vital organs that are still working (heart lungs etc... ), so it's mostly people who had car accident or heart failures and were ressucitated, but too late to prevent the brain tissue from dying. That's why there is such a shortage of donnors, only a very small fraction or the death are eligible for organ transplant.
However in the case o the liver it's possible to use living donors, because it has the ability to regenerate. It's a very difficult surgery though, I hope she'll be fine. While I'm here, let you family know what's your opinion on organ donation, a lot of organs are not used because the family doesn't know what was the opinion of the deceased on the subject.
It's not something that concerns old people dying in their bed, donors are unfortunately mostly relatively young people who die from an accident, so make sure your family know .

It regenerates very fast. Normally if there is like 25-30% of liver left it heals itself within 5-6 weeks. There are cases of liver regenerating from only 10% of its tissue.

You might be right about that, but the most important thing is that she's alive.

She was alive before, we already knew she was alive. Telling us she's still alive isn't something to get hype about is all I'm saying. She's walking now, awesome! Is she better? Or is she just doing better until she drops dead.
Regardless, good to know she's at least up and about.
yay!!! i've never been happier to hear good news about a person whom i didn't personally know. really glad that she's making a brilliant recovery. hope we get to see her again soon...
