Jaedong: I'm confident no matter who my opponent will be for semifinals.
'Tyrant' Jaedong (Hwaseung Oz) defeated 'Super-Terran' Light (MBCGame) and advanced to the semifinals.
On the 18th, Jaedong started with a loss but took the next two games to crush Light and became the first player to claim a spot on the semifinals bracket.
Q & A:
- You took another step towards representing your country
A: I expected today to be a tough obstacle. I knew the next match-up would be either a zerg or a protoss which I'm comfortable with. To be honest, I didn't have high hopes for this WCG but it seems like I'm getting by somehow. Since I won in the grand-finals last year, I'm not too greedy for another gold, I just want to go to LA (laughs). Knowing the WCG grand-finals location, I thought it would be nice to travel to US and now that I'm in the semi-finals, I would be filled with regret if I don't end up making it [to LA]. I don't care much about the ranks in WCG Korea, I just don't want to be 4th.
- You'll face Light again in MSL semi-finals, any concerns in practice/preparation?
A: There weren't any major problems. Besides the fact that he's a terran [T/N: racial imbalances implied], I didn't have any worries. It was just another game.
- Your opponent used early-game strategies [T/N: cheese rush!]
A: I had a hunch that he'd try something like that. He knows he has to play a lot of matches with me so I assumed he wouldn't go standard every single game. I focused on my own game without getting rattled by his, and I was able to win today.
- How was set 3 game
A: It was really fun especially about the mid-game mark. I had an advantage, and considering that Light's a great TvZ player, it felt like playing a practice match with a great TvZ player [T/N: no other progamer implied, JD's just trying to say that he was able to enjoy it as if it was practice]. I was able to carry my advantage through without making mistakes and I think that's why I won.
- How's your preparation for MSL
A: Nowadays in practice, Terrans seem to favour that strategy [T/N:
- You will meet either Pure or Effort in the semi-finals
A: I'm confident no matter who my opponent will be.
- There's an overlap in your schedule on Saturday: MSL semi-finals and WCG Korea semi-finals
A: There's also OSL on the previous day, which makes it bit tricky. I need to prepare for ZvZ (OSL) and ZvT (MSL), and if a protoss ends up advancing today [T/N: that would be Pure if he beats Effort], I'd have to prepare for all match-ups. I know I'd have more regrets if I lose due to lack of preparation, and to be honest, it bothers me. Still, I will do my best to prepare for all the matches. Thankfully SPL is over and I don't have to practice for that.
- Last words
A: My schedule is really packed this week but I'll do my best to prepare for all the matches. Cheer for me so that I can win them all!

Effort!

Effort: I'm looking forward to playing against Jaedong.

Effort: I'm looking forward to playing against Jaedong.
'Messiah' [T/N: Meh with long "eh" sound, is Korean for Hawk. so that's where this nickname comes from... I think] Effort (CJ) defeated Pure (WeMade) and advanced to the semi-finals.
On the 18th, Effort managed to defeat Pure by a 2:1 score after many fierce battles. He will face 'Tyrant' Jaedong (Hwaseung) on the 21st.
Q & A:
- This is your first time reaching the WCG Korea semi-finals
A: My desire [for a spot on the Korea SC roster] is even greater now that I've reached this far. Every time I was envious of the WCG Korea representatives but now I'm very close [of being one myself]. A little more and I can end up within top 3, which means I will go to LA - all of which makes me more excited.
- Broadly, how were your games today
A: It seems like my opponent had something strategic [T/N: cheesy!] for set 1, but I was able to figure it out quick enough and win easily. Set 2, I think I was doing ok but I let my guard down one moment which resulted in the loss.
- In the 3rd set, you gained advantage quite early
A: I guessed that Pure would go double nexus [T/N: pylon-nexus-forge] so I played accordingly, and I was right!
- You will meet Jaedong in the semi-finals
A: It seems like I'm getting a lot of matches against him here and there. I find that it's a lot of fun playing against him, and it's a lot of fun preparing for ZvZ as well. I'm looking forward to it.
- Do you find it more fun to play against good players?
A: I think every player prepares and tries harder against a good player. Same goes for me. I find myself putting more effort in those situations, and I find that enjoyable.
- You already have experienced a victory in USA soil (BlizzCon Invitational)
A: USA seems to be less humid than Korea, so I was able to stay nice and dry even in warm weather. Also, although not everyone was a SC fan, there were a lot of fans there. I wanted to play better in front of such a large crowd and thus I played very well.
- You already represented the country through IEF last time
A: Don't remind me (laughs). [T/N: you can search up IEF results... lol. I feel for Effort here]
- Your mindset going into the WCG semi-finals
A: It'd be nice to represent the country as number 1 player, but I think I should focus on getting to the finals first.
- What have you been doing lately
A: Since I'm out of both leagues [T/N: OSL and MSL], I've been focusing on WCG (laughs).
[Big T/N blurb: the expression used in Korean is "unemployed/hobo in both leagues," which basically means he's out of both leagues. Sort of worth a laugh, which is why he laughs there.]
- Last words
A: Thanks to my teammates who practiced with me. Also, I've been blasted with too much A/C lately which is sort of making me sick. I hope everyone stays off summer-cold!

Source for Effort article: Fomos
Pictures were uplaoded to tinypic because Google Chrome hates Fomos (I use Chrome too!).
Random fact: I was just playing SC with my best friend before coming home to watch the matches. He mentioned that he hated Effort because he's a fluke and blabla. And then we played ZvP (normally I'm P and he's Z but we switched up) and I lost a close match on Match Point. Guess what... Effort lost to Pure on Match Point! Seriously, how do you ZvP on that map?
Also, one more until 1000th post, I'd love to have made that on Stork's OSL victory interview (or at least I'd hope for that), but I can't help myself from posting everyday. So... what should I do?
