I usually just click something else and then doubletap 1, to check that the units really got hotkeyed to the control group. | ||

Shift should be working 100% of the time. If you're certain that you're pressing down on it hard enough, then I'm not quite sure what the problem would be. The only time I've had a similar problem is when I discover my pinky decided to be a jerk and press the Ctrl key instead. | ||

then after you do shift-# you have to let go of both buttons then press the hotkey again in order to see the new group | ||

I usually do shift+1 multiple times and double check by pressing 1 to make sure the units are added to the group. | ||
