put a bit of hair wax and when you apply, apply to the roots.. u can reinforce it with hairspray afterwards (spray the roots)

for these hairstyles never use gel it will look too wet and it will weigh the hair down making a flat or thin look

well I actually barely use gel nowadays because I do indeed not like the look of it, plus women dont like it when they cant even move their hands through your hair cause it's so freakin hard. But most waxes dont work for me either because they seem to be even worse at holding hair in one place. Right now I'm using some so called fibre gum which is working better for me than anything before, cause it's decently strong, doesnt feel like it, and you can restyle, but I'm still not that happy.
