Some people play to win, some people play for fun. I always want to consider myself as one of the latter, and I believe some playstyles are more fun than others. What's fun? For me, trying to win is fun. The winning part itself isn't as important. If I tried my best to win and lost, I still had fun that game.
My favorite mu is ZvZ. I hosted a game on Bluestorm, and a player joins, instantly picks T. But then he switches to Z, and tells me he's Z. So he's a racepicker, and he prefers ZvZ over TvZ. Awesome, I like this guy already. <3
We played a 6 minute long ZvZ (5:50 or so) and I have to say that I had about 4x more fun this game as I would've had in a 30min long passive macroish ZvT mech. Obviously T can go bunker->vult->2port->bio->drops&BC and it's way more fun, but nevertheless, it's cool to see that some people play out different than others (how many ZvZ racepickers do you know? usually it's the other way around lol).
Yeah that's it. Shitty blog heh. Just wanted to rant about all the passive players I've been seeing lately who rely solely on mechanic ability to win games. If you beat me by doing drop play, abusing attack timings to maximum efficiency, nice micro control of your units, that's totally cool and I'd love to play you more.
But if you try to win just by macroing harder... ...why do you play this game?

It's not really just one or the other anymore, like oldschool micro vs nowadays macro. SC has developed enough that players require a good composition of both to win. Of course creative micro-oriented plays are indeed more fun, but winning is more fun than losing in general.
Idk what you mean by TvZ being a passive macro game because as far as I know, TvZ is one of the most exciting, micro-oriented matchups (at least for T). TvT on the other hand can get kind of passive and boring, but the recent article on XellOs's influence in TvT changed my perspective as well.

I'm assuming you want others to appreciate that you love micro-intensive, low-eco games yet you can't accept that some would rather play epic macro games?
I happen to be quite the opposite of you. I generally dislike it when people play cheesy or use different tactics. Although I really, really enjoy watching it, I don't like being the "victim" of it.

I did not imply macro is not fun and micro is fun. It's a common misconception. I don't think more micro makes a game more fun. What I consider fun is the decision making part of the game. I also mentioned specifically the mech style that some people use lately, where you just crawl out slowly with goliath/tank. From the Z side, you don't need to make a lot of decisions against this, you basically time your expansions and drones and that's it. It's not -fun-.
Look in the replays section for Mio TvP. He didn't have the best micro ever, like at some moments he had great micro and in others he lost units in really non cost-efficient battles. Yet the entire gamestyle was very fun. He was constantly in his opponent's face, constantly forcing them to be aware of everything on the entire map. This is way more fun than just focusing on one thing that basically comes down to -do X to counter Y- which stems from other sorts of gamestyles.
In ZvZ, you have to make decisions all the time. Even making a drone or 2 lings can be a game deciding factor. That's why I consider it fun. ;p

If I was any good at T, I would TvT in a heartbeat. It's just too damn fun.

I always play for fun. It's fun to improve. So sometimes I play standard, decision-less, out muscle your opponent, macro games.
