Ya, my assumption would be that perhaps the Lurker is only able to move its spines vertically thus requiring it to be under an enemy in order to have any effect. No use in being above your opponents and only being able to attack up.

So lurkers shoot out some kind of an appendage that forces spines upward in some way as it goes along?

That's a good question about the Lurker. I assume the evolution would compound the spines into one long membrane allowing the Lurker to use the spines from the original Hydralisk carapace into a longer ranged, stealthier attack.


The only thing I can think of is that they expand themselves through the ground in the direction of their targets, and fire upwards.

I have a different idea though, the lurkers first grow all around in ground with multiple protrutions, like how a plant grows its root, all over the place.
Then the lurker focuses on one particular direction and force those protutions to spike upward, creating the spike line we know.

The scarab of a reaver, is it a little mini robot or is it more psy oriented entity?

It's a robot for sure.

I don't now why it would glow blue like that...I can only imagine it's because it's supposed to be going at such super-high speeds it charges the air around it into a plasma-like state...or something dumb like that.

That could also explain why they're so dumb...when you're that small, cost only 15 minerals and move that fast, you're bound to make as many mistakes as scarabs do. Plus you're released to die...might as well fuck with the player controlling you as much as you're able, no?

Protoss have glitches all over their systems, look at dragoon, surprised no disabled warrior ever complained about their incapable wheelchairs.

There was once a drawing of "lurker attack theory" with 4 different ways of how the lurker supposedly attacks. It looked really funny, but I can't seem to find it.

About scarabs: the reaver is a mobile, automated factory (i.e. it's a gateway that can move) and scarabs are produced, automated suicide units. That's why they're so dumb.

(and yes, the reaver says "I'm so beautiful!" when you produce it!)

Why does the hydralisks have these huge spines along their tails on gameplay. But no spines on cinematics? Are they retractable like a cat's claw?

Interestingly enough, the reaver was not designed for warfare. It was purposed as a mobile manufacturing plant! When the time called, they simply had the Reaver produce the explosive scarabs as opposed to other more developmental causes. The Colossus seen in StarCraft 2 is the only Protoss robot to date that was made with warfare in mind!

It's so very exciting to see the kind of positive response that this blog has generated! I am glad there are others that can enjoy theorizing the development of StarCraft's three races.

I will be working on my next excerpt regarding the transition from a multifaceted tribe like Protoss race to it's age of reason and technology, the importance that the Khala played in it and the protoss that shared it with the rest of his race. It will finally taper off into how this caused a rift with other Protoss and the eventual expulsion of the Dark Templar.

hmm... but aren't stuff like dragoons created so that protoss warriors could fight even more? so like technically woudl'nt that be considered as something made for war?

Well, the dragoon was a shell created so that those that wanted to continue service could still contribute even with broken appendages or an inability to move around. I guess it could be compared to an artificial leg. While a soldier could use that artificial leg to go back and fight, he could also go home and it would help him with his daily routine.

That exoskeleton was created not only for wartime but also for Protoss veterans to contribute to any number of tasks. Many of what the Protoss fight with now is modified equipment, even the scout was not used for war but to venture out as the eyes and ears of the fleet (Why did they make them so slow then, don't ask me! XD).

What sucks is that in the SC2 mythos, they said that the dragoon plants, which were the places where fallen protoss dudes were placed into goons, were all destroyed along with nearly all of Aiur...

So the Immortals are the last of the dragoons, and every one lost is permanent.

Considering how many goons die on a regular basis in BW, that's kind of a depressing thought...lol.
