had this problem myself, but in the end it wasn't a dust problem, the rotating part of the fan was damaged and i had to exchange it.

Sony vaios...a mystery to take apart. If the plastic covering the speakers (lots of tiny holes) are separate, try to see if you can gently pop them up cause there may be four screws under there that you might need to take out. And take out the hard drive (yank it by the plastic tab) before removing the bottom plastic to reveal the motherboard. I did this once with the hard drive still connected and bent all the motherboard hard drive connecter pins >.<

Though your model could be different, all this might not work

most laptops come with factory warranties (not the extended retail ones) oh well, if you did you could have just shipped it back to them and gotten a new one =[ edit: read the thread, you bought Sony? I'm pretty sure Sony provides default warranties on all their laptops

So looking down on your laptop with the screen up, the top plastics may consist of: 1 screen hinges part 1 holey part covering the speakers 1 part surrounding the keyboard or 1 screen hinges part 1 holey part that's melded with the part surrounding the keyboard (at least that's the ones I've come across) Had my vaio for three years so it's out of warranty. I shelled out $400 to change out my fan and dvd drive fast, but I had to go through a middleman so that sucked (no other options at the time). I figured I might as well manually clean out the fan this time around and took some time figuring out how to take the damn puzzle piece apart. Don't know about the bios fan thing. Other tidbit: It takes $700 to completely change out the vaio motherboard from sony direct. You might as well buy a new laptop with that money lol
