Back to Chapter One
Chapter Two
Approaching the hallway deeper and deeper, you notice the lights fade more and more, even one of the bulb was burnt out. You look up then continued the trek down the hall. You notice various directions you could have gone to, but decided to head to A2 - Weapons Deck.
While walking there, you notice a small smear of red on the wall. It could be paint, tomato sauce, or even blood, but you cannot exactly tell. You just see it, and ignore it and move on.
Heading into the Weapon's Deck, you notice a food tray on the ground. You pick it up and analyze it. The plastic tray has a half-eaten tuna sandwich on it, but the burger was cold. To the Deck, there are redirected routes back to Satellite Surv. and Control, and you notice a sturdy metal door with red letters over it, "Authorization Required."
You ignore all these and head to the Weapons Deck.
You insert your ID card into the scanner and your hand for hand-printing.
Authorization: Passed
The Deck door opens.
You notice the automatic handguns are missing, so were the shotguns. There were a couple of anti-pulse armors(resistant to pulse-type weapons and bullet-proof), you take one. You become more weary. You also notice some bullet holes inside the room. Above, there is a small opening; it is a vent.
The door closes suddenly and you turn to it. No matter how hard you pry it, or kick it, the door will not open. As an engineer; you break open a box and check the wires inside. You try to rewire it to see if it will make the door open.
What do you want to do?
Poll: What do you want to do? (Vote): Use the gun rack as a ladder and climb up towards the ventilation (Vote): Try to open the door and turn back to Satellite Surv. (Vote): Try to open the door and turn back to Satellite Control (Vote): Try to open the door and head to the Locked door and see if you are able to access it/inspect it
Voting ends 1/30 9KST.

I pick 4, just for the hell of it. This like Left4Dead(game) situation for me so smiple. hunter jumps you its over LOL

The first thing you should do in this situation is go for the weapons. Since this has already been done (unsuccessfully), the next logical thing to do is understand the situation through reconnaissance. Satellite survey seems like it could potentially tell you info about what is going on in the satellite and what to do next.
Satellite control is either occupied by those with weapons or not functional.
The locked room is also potentially a good place to go. Satellite survey may be a trap, however, it is possible that no one has been able to access the locked room. Since you are an engineer you may have an advantage here.
Although the fact that the door closed on its own is pretty creepy. Perhaps you are being monitored from either satellite survey or satellite control. Or perhaps someone is in the hallway. The only way you could escape being monitored would most likely be going into the ventilation system. However it may simply be an electrical problem since a lot of lights are burnt out.
I'd say go into the locked room since it is right next to the weapons deck and is most likely to have weapons in it. Then go to satellite survey.

Dammit you people, this is why you should have gone to the cafe first, and asked teamliquid for advice.

Go into the vents.
I chose that only 'cause it's probably the dumbest thing you could possibly do in this situation.

Climb into the vents. Gamer style.

only go into vents with a crowbar and 20-second battery flashlight

and a killer goatee and some cool emo glasses

LOL. im glad this story idea has gotten an interest out of people. thank you!

Definitely vent. I can only assume the "you" in the story is referring to me and danger is my middle name.
|
You should add a lot more of poll questions =D
Make some irrelevant ones too such as: "Yell at the door asking whoever closed it to open it."

lol man this brings me sweet memories of an EPIC (and very old) game called KGB, oh god how much I loved that game, I swear to you, if you like these kind of things you HAVE to play it!
Its so old I think you can download it for free.
|
what does it stand for? i remember an old game called ZORK or something and it was text based like this.
|
I would say KGB was the communist equivalent of the U.S. FBI.
http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/93/KGB.html <-- changed it
Check it out man, i swear you won't regret it! =)
I'll check ZORK out brb
edit: on topic = Use the ladder to get to the vent! Who knows what we might see in the locked room if we manage to get to it via ducts o,o or who knows who might spot us making too much noise in the vents XDD
Man Im loving this.
|
linked to chapter one in OP so people who havent checked it out could check it out now.
|
Would we really want to go up the vent so quickly without rechecking the whole situation in itself. For all it's worth, there might be some fucked up zombie in the vent just waiting for us to climb there and fuckin eat us :D
Back to Sat. Surveillance imo!
|
at least getting eaten by a zombie would be interesting
fuck back tracking, that just gets you killed (and in a boring way)
|
I can't believe people want to climb the gun rack into the vent. Are there guns on the rack (would they be cleared first)? This seems like a recipe for disaster, where someone trips and sets off all the guns and dies a grisly death for nothing. Whatever happened to "Don't panic?"
Try to do the rationale "I'm not dealing with Shodon, this is a freaking satellite with no AI" thing. There may be bullet holes in the wall, but we do have a vest. Inspecting the door before doing anything else would probably be a good idea. For all you know some lunatic is holed up in the vents (that isn't you).
|
the key with these things is to be rational when everyone expects you to be irrational and irrational when everyone expects you to be rational

If you were in a movie your billing would be along the lines of 'dead hitchhiker #2'

honestly, go watch a horror movie
whenever they backtrack they die

|
let's check out the ventz guys, we're pr0 crawlers, and yeh, backtracking is prob death -.-
|
you aren't macgyver, you'll never open that door just vent it and do some serious recon work, eavesdropping etc.
|
vents be dangerous. Need weapons first, figure out the door and get to the surveilance
|
by the time it is friday, vent option would still be >>>>> satellite surv. >__<
|
we can't get weapons from this room
guys think of it logically. Assume worst case that some being closed the door. Now it stands to reason they probably didn't do it randomly. Which means at the very least they saw you go through the door. Leaving out the case of the being being omniscient, in which case you are well and truly fucked if it wants to do more thank talk, the being is either standing by the door or watching remotely.
If the being is watching the door, you don't want to go back that way. If the being is watching remotely, its less likely that the vents are watched remotely. Yeah it sucks, and we should try and get lost ASAP, but vents are certainly a better alternative than banging on the door and attracting attention.
The only thing we have to be afraid of in vents are either a bunch of beings, one of whom happens to be in a vent; a single being controlling other beings remotely, in which case we are fucked no matter whether we take the vents or not; or a really fast creature watching remotely that can ambush us into the vents.
I think its safe to assume that the weapons room is safe. That is there is no being in there. My reasoning for this is that if there were a hostile being in the room we should already be dead. If its waiting to ambush us, then obviously its weak enough (or considers us strong enough) to not be able to attack us head on.
Assuming the weapons room is safe, then having the door locked just guarantees your back and gives you less to work on. Unless the door opens, the being can move through wall (fucked in all cases), or the being is already in the room (covered above), you only have to concentrate on head-on attacks at the moment.
Besides, hallways seem like the most likely place to meet beings, so we should avoid that whenever possible. Assuming you are strong enough to take control of a deserted station and kill the protagonist, why would you waste your time travelling through vents when you can just go down the hallways? It seems that any hostile being that is travelling through vents is either weak enough it cant face most things head-on, or just really strange

hence
Barricade the door, take the vent

hahaha CUT OF THE LIMBS!!!

Or it's all a ruse to trap you in the room and funnel you into the vent where someone is awaiting you. There's no blood (apparently?) so either someone cleaned it up, there was an accidental discharge, or the person got away (through the vent!?!). There is, however, likely blood elsewhere on the ship given what was seen before reaching the room. So what could possibly have led to these?
1. Pirates/hostile nation boarding. The station is cloaked, but if another group/nation knew the station's location/orbit through other means, that wouldn't do much good. 2. Alien/other nonhuman hostile. Yeah... it could happen, I guess. + Show Spoiler + 3. Insanity. Someone went insane, murdered all the crew, and is now trying to kill you. 4. Mutiny. Two groups are warring for control of the station. 5. The ship has a top secret AI that is now playing with its puppets. 6. Incoming threat. Everyone is armed and sane on the top deck, the smear was a result of someone accidentally cutting themselves on something sharp (maybe they tripped?). They closed the door so you wouldn't do something hasty upon seeing the guns missing and they could unite you with the rest of the group. They setup the docking bay to malfunction so when a raid came, the raiders would be partially screwed. You showed up first instead.
So I guess fusiondf is probably right. Of the scenarios imagined, the only plausible one that doesn't involve an immediate hostile is #6. However, this smells of an inside job... unless the ship's controls are super easy to manipulate (I doubt it), it stands to reason that only someone who has been on the ship for a while could close the door overriding your local control. So I guess scenarios #3 or #4 are the most probable. However, it is possible that the hostiles forced a crew member to lock the door at gunpoint, so #1 is also quite possible.
Or it could have been a simple malfunction and we're all paranoid gits.

i like some of the theories behind this whole thing... haha. im also happy that two of the choices are not that far in between each other, maybe the lower % would top the current one.
|
Never expected so much theory and insight, good read guys lol
|
or it could be a fully invasive AI
(Shodan) seriously if there is anyone out there who hasn't played system shock 2 yet, go play it
