Pretty good series, animation is poor and the story is like hentai-esque, but it just has a personal connection to me.

Neon Genesis Evangelion
First anime I watched (if you don't count random dbz episodes I watched as a little kid). I actually only watched it because I liked Rammstein, and someone in TL a long time ago posted an NGE AMV with a rammstein song, and I thought "hey this looks pretty cool." I downloaded the series, Death, EoE, and later, Rebuild. But I only watched it months later.
Wow, what an awesome series this was. There was sooo much going on. I really started identifying with some of the characters, and they grow on you. I had to get past the first 5 or so episodes (were kinda boring compared the the later episodes), but since this was the first anime I've watched, it kept me interested. Awesome themes, ideas, characters, music. The ending (I see the TV ending and the EoE ending as complimentary and concurrent) kinda shocked me at first, but loved it as I explored more into it. Quite an awesome show to discuss on online forums because there's just so much to talk about.
Elfen Lied
Second anime I've ever watched. I actually started reading the manga first, got to about chapter 90, then started watching the anime. Finished the anime, and read up to chapter 106, which is the second last chapter. I can't find a translated chapter 107.
I loved reading the manga. It was beautiful, sad, and touching; however, near the end, it started getting a bit weird (sorta like how the matrix was really cool, then matrix revolutions was kinda bleh...too...dunno how to describe it).
I like the anime better than the manga. The music added a whole new dimension (although it's kinda unfair, because the manga can't have music). The one disadvantage of the anime was that it was so short many of the kickass backstories of the characters were not included or shortened. The main reason I liked the anime better was the plot. The anime was like a short story, while the manga was like a book series. The endings differed dramatically, and I liked the anime one better. Partially because of some characters' actions/dispositions, and partially because I've grown to love the main character (a show that can make you love the main character, who is a psychotic mass murderer, although it's probably because you feel so sorry for her). Such an awesome show.

Hi there! Sorry for bumping but im desperate.Ive seen every single animes that was mentioned in this thread. And hell i dare to say ive seen the majority of those in other threads as well.So im running out!!I tought this was a never ending story Im sort of an anime geek.
So if U could reccommend me any real quality animes pls just do.(oh and dont even try with the likes of gundam or stuff,)I would appreciate it.
Ps:Any1 seen the Mushi-shi? I just started it and i realy like it: The story features ubiquitous creatures called Mushi that often display supernatural powers. Mushi are described as beings in touch with the essence of life, far more basic and pure than normal living things. Due to their ephemeral nature most humans are incapable of perceiving Mushi and are oblivious to their existence, but there are a few who possess the ability to see and interact with Mushi. The Mushi depicted in the anime look very similar to floaters.
One such person is Ginko (ギンコ, Ginko?), the main character of the series. He employs himself as a Mushi master (蟲師, mushi-shi?), traveling from place to place to research Mushi and aid people suffering from problems caused by them. The series is an episodic anthology in which the only common elements among episodes are Ginko and the various types of Mushi. There is no over-arching plotline.

I found it somewhat entertaining, but there are a lot of things that people claim about this series which I disagree with. I don't find the schemes to be incredibly complex, nor do I find the morality aspects particularly interesting. What i see is plot devices and a shallow, naive sense of morality. It was a decent suspense story, but that's about as far as it goes IMO. (I'm probably slightly biased against this series because people think it's the greatest shit ever. I just find it unsettling when people agree with Light's "morality", when the guy's just on a power trip)
I feel like this too, the story have nothing to give if you are smart enough to see through the writers tries to create "uber smart" characters and the idea of "death gods" and "death note" gets old quick.

Really?
+ Show Spoiler [Deathnote] +I thought the element of someone trying to create a perfect world and going insane because of it was very compelling, and that the twists were great. I don't know about 'uber smart' ... Prodigy people do exist, it's not some made up bullshit for the sake of a weird anime. I don't know. I think there's a lot of sub themes and underlying metaphors that make the series exceptional and well worth is credit. Deathnote was the first anime I ever saw that I liked (everything else before it was like.. kids shows... digimon, Dragon Ball Z... whatever else played on YTV back in the day), and it really made anime's accessible for me, so it's possible I'm biased. But really, before I saw Deathnote, I thought all animes were really stupid and retarded gimmick shows like "Full Metal Alchemist" that were just about everyone being godly, and then the next episode 'omigosh! it's someone even more godly! Now I will have to surpass his godliness in more and more absurd and silly ways.' In Deathnote, I enjoyed that fact that they embraced the mortality of their characters, and the ending was very brave compared to standard western TV shows. The voice acting was also top class (if you watched it with English dubbing, I pity you and it's no wonder you didn't like it). It made me realise not all animes are completely retarded Baah... to each his own though It pisses me off that you imply you have to be simple minded to enjoy it though, because I think that to enjoy it on a much higher level, you have to be very intelligent and critical (as enjoyable as it may be for someone simple minded as well).

Even if you didnt enjoy the storyline EVERY Miyazaki movie has some of the most amazing animation and musical scores ever. I cant see how you could rate it any less than a 5!!!! Not to mention that movies is one of his best, it is only behind Nausicca and Mononoke Hime to me.

Two stars means I still liked it. Just in reference to things better rated, I didn't like it as much as them. I don't know. I really didn't like the ending, and I thought the characters stopped acting believable.
But then, I was also plastered, and passed out an hour in, only to wake up at 5am, rewind it, and watch the rest of it mostly hung over. I don't know, there's a lot of other outside factors that hindered my enjoyment of it as well, such as the person who recommended it to me and things going on with her.
EDIT: I'll explain in more depth later... But I need to run to class now.
