Not too long ago, scientists actually thought that balding came from your mother's father. They thought that the gene responsible for hair loss was on the X chromosome. Since women have XX, and males have XY, a male offspring would receive one X from the female and the Y from the male. This results in the male unable to give the balding gene to his son, but pass it onto his daughter, who can then pass it on to her son. I'm pretty sure this is what happens with hemophilia, and those sayings on something skipping a generation.
Anyways, further research discovered that the gene is autosomal. In other words, it isn't sex related, and your dad can give it to you. Tough luck.
Edit: Just to clarify, if your grandfather on your mother's side is bald, you're still not safe. I think you have like a 50/50 chance.

Well there are hair implants for really desperate people but seriously, you can still look quite good if you just cut it marine style once you start to bald.

My hair is starting to disappear, but I like the way I look with a shaved head, so I'm not too worried. I will miss my head-bangin' metal hair! I figure about 3 years until I have to shave it off. Half the guys in my family lose it, bahh

It will be a shame when I lose my hair because my hair rocks. It's slightly more effective than Brillo for scrubbing dishes.
Seriously every time I get a haircut with a new person they say something like "Wow your hair is thick." Luckily I exercise enough self control to avoid saying "that's not all"

I started going bald at age 19, shaved my head may,2010 and I have been shaved bald since.
and I mean like down to the skin, not even fuzz. Hair never suited me well anyways so im happy with how it turned out. Just consider this, balding isn't the worst thing in the world, just be happy you aren't suffering from any major health issues.

Chicks DIG shaved heads.
As long as you have a fairly round head, you're golden.

I'm pretty sure that the same genes that give you really thick hair make you go bald.

I think I have a slowly receding hairline, but I've always had a high forehead even while growing up (big brain syndrome ;-) ). That and I have untameable curly hair. I've buzzed my hair several times, not sure if I should do it again though haha.
Kind of a necro post o,0.
