I've started playing SC melee in ladders and such for perhaps 2 years, and used terran for the entire 2 years and got to C- level as of now. The first time i've hit C- was the second season of iccup, and i've kept it there up until now. Usually whenever i play against a C- person i would lose, and it would drop me back to a D+, and then i play a D+ and get myself back to C- only to lose again.

Maybe its the fact that the race terran recieves so little attention in the foreign scene that it is extremely difficult for a noob to improve. Or maybe i just plainly suck.

Never in my 2 years was this skill wall so apparent to me. I've never recieved any tutors, virtually learnt each and every match up by myself that i got from watching pro reps. Perhaps there is something that i cannot see what the pros are doing that i am not besides gosu micro and macro. Maybe i've reached my limits, maybe i should change races because if i hit a wall with protoss or zerg i could definatly find someone to help me break it. But with terran its just so hard to find anyone who is above C- level, and is willing to help. Is it normal to take so long to break this skill wall?

Mass more games, understand it more, if one is to train to become great, you need:

Good PC.
Good internet.
Good conditions & environment.
Good health.

But you have to understand WHY you lose, and what you could've done. Adapt.

Glad you've figured it out.
There is a wall.
Everyone is limited
You can try to go beyond those limits, but only do it in profitable ventures that will help you future.
Social Justice is a fools errand. May all the adherents at its church be thwarted. Of all the religions I have come across, it is by far the most detestable.

I have another week of break before school starts again, and I'm bored. I'd be willing to help you, just let me know where and when you're on. I'm B ICC btw.

Learning isn't always continuous - sometimes it happens in spurts. You'll peak for awhile, then one day out of the blue you will start winning games you would have lost just the day before.

I liked Skew's advice: make sure you are doing everything correctly (using your hotkeys, for example.) Try to think about your games and analyze pro games. Beyond that, just keep working hard. You'll get it.

Be sure you are playing for fun - there is no other reason to get into this game.

Don't switch races unless you dislike Terran. Every race has a tough learning curve.

It's probably because around C rank is about when people start to actually think about the game and use strategy rather than just blunt macro micro. You need to think about the game differently if you're not winning anymore. Don't keep doing the same thing over and over again if you keep losing when you do it. Use your head, and you'll probably steal some games from C players if you try.

I've never recieved any tutors, virtually learnt each and every match up by myself that i got from watching pro reps.

Copying build orders and unit mixes is not learning a match up. Watching pro reps is useless because you simply won't be able to replicate the situation they're playing in perfectly. You have to understand why do things, and then see where else in the game it could apply.

Just go through trial and error and figure out what works. If you keep doing the same thing over and over, you will NEVER break the skill wall.

I really love this post because it really applies to me. I keep on losing PvZ because I just try to use brute force by macroing and microing without thinking.

I've tried to think about the game in strategical terms, but it's really hard. I just don't seem to get it, it's ridiculous...

i really doubt anyone's limit is C-
i mean, right now im around the same level as you, d+/c- but i have a clear vision of what i can improve. Im fairly sure that if i really tried my best, i could improve very much. Im also perfectly aware of how much time it takes, so now i just play kinda for fun but also not completely fucking around. I try to win, but try not to get affected by a loss.

i play zerg. watching zerg vs terran vods don't really help me but zvt replays for me at the A level is better than zvt pro vods. this is cause in replays u can stop and look around but for vods, announcers rarely look at what is important.

i kind of had a skill boost from a plateau when i started turning off zerg's vision to only look at the terran. i notice things like when their tech kicks in and when is good to attack and when is not. before then, my strategy was mostly based on what zerg's tech was like, but ya, anyways.

I am in the same situation you're in Mr. Original Poster, except I'm a toss player. I basically would fly through D and D+ ranks, but once I hit C-, that's when everything would go wrong. Other C- players would thrash me, and I'd occasionally win vs a C- here and there, only to lose more than win and end up back in D+ again. Then, I'd beat a D+ player easily and start winning vs C- people, but then eventually I'd lose a lot and lose all the points I won.

My record at the end was 41-41 XD. Right now, season 3, I'm 5-4. I've been wanting to mass game(since christmas break is so fucking boring...) but I never get to it. Maybe today, lulz. I'll end up at even stats again, like I usually do XD
