Today I hung out with Daniel Lee, head coach of eSTRO. He took me to the players' house to check it out. I think they were pretty uncomfortable to have a female in the house, but oh well.
It was fun - I got to watch them practice a bit and then at 4, had a late lunch with the team. All the players listened to Daniel and I talk in English and at some point I started talking in Korean.. to which they just looked up at me - in unison - in awe. It was quite silly.
i was impressed by the house. I'm not sure what I expected really, didn't really have any idea of what kinda place players actually lived in. And I'm gonna assume that most of you guys don't know either. So I will share with you - the eSTRO house.
Outside:
The players' shoes!
First room on the right:
What you see when you first come in.
Me in the livingroom:
My view of the livingroom:
Bedroom #2
Bedroom #3
Kitchen area with their cook and laundry lady
The door to the dungeon:
The stairs leading to...
Practice Room #1 - they spend 12 hours in here.
Practice Room #2 - it was hot as fuck downstairs, btw.
Sorry for so many pictures. But yeah, so that was my day.

well, you can see that they were busy practicing. I wanted to take pictures of them eating lunch but they just ate really fast and ran off to their rooms. They only get 1 hour after eating for break before going back down to practice some more.

so would you say most of them looked happy or no, and do you think it's a decent way of life or job to have. I wonder if playing bw for 12 hours a day with the same 10 people under really strict rules is mentally healthy

did you ask about idra coming and how they feel about it.
do cs team and war3 players live separately?
i didnt get to talk to the players about idra at all. daniel and i are still talking with idra right now about the whole ordeal. it's in the works.
i think the cs team and war3 players live in teh same complex. there are 5 other teams that live in that complex. i'm sure they all look the same inside.

the rounded part is the veranda attached to the livingroom. each of those rounded things are seperate apartments. yeah, apparently, 6 of the teams live in that complex (not that specific building).

They normally have this schedule:
10:00 wake up, shower
11:00 eat, clean
12:00 begin practice
4-6 eat, work out (jogging, health clubs etc..)
6 pm to 10 pm practice some more
10pm to 2 am free time
2 am lights out
so it totals to 8 hours of practice, 8 hours of sleep.
Quote from Daniel himself:
"Proteams have evolved so much, not just my team, but all proteams have. The level of professionalism, commitment, and the discipline is amazing. Proteams are very structured these days. Most teams have team doctors, sometimes we send players to psychologists to boost their egos, self esteem to perform better it's just an example of how professional teams are these days. We pay much ATTENTION TO THEIR MENTAL, AND PHYSICAL WELL BEING! It's one of the biggest misconceptions I would like to clear up with the foreign sc community."
I don't think that's a lot of pictures at all I want more! =D and their apartment looks very nice inside and out to be honest. Also eSTRO still has their WC3 division? Last time I checked there was only one player who was GoStop. Your blogs are amazing =D.
keep up the good work lilsusie!! i love your blog.
if im going to korea, will i be able to find the live proleague msl/osl etc? is it expensive to watch, and to live on a hotel or something? im planning to go there for 3-4 months, just to watch live games and eat kimchi.

I used to speak to him in Korean quite a bit several years ago and he was really nice. Then I told him I wasn't Korean and he started being an asshole.
Then I saw him on TV wearing a KTF uniform and I've just hated him ever since.

4-6 eat, work out (jogging, health clubs etc..) ...
I bet it s more eating than working out. This coach can say what he likes but none of these guys looks very healthy. They are without any doubt great gamers but their bodies are simply degenerated. Just take a look at a picture of boxer before he had to go to the Airforce and compare it to a picture taken at the end of his basic training at the Army.

Pro gamers have health consultants and shit. they try to keep players as healthy as possible around their schedule, probably more than most average people their age are.
actually while i was there they ate for like 20 mins and literally went out to shower/workout rest, read magazines, etc. or maybe it was cuz i was there and they all wanted to hide.

Clearly you haven't fantasized about seen the pictures of Reach working out in the gym.
Although they're probably not working out very hard if they can do it right after eating. o.o
I've seen Xellos working out in the gym in a report about WCG some years ago. He did some bench press with two weights about 6 pounds each. Sorry but thats not working out. Well ok it's working out by definition but it s not working out enough to compensate sitting 8 hours on their ass and moving nothing but their hands. I dont think they are keeping them as healthy as possible. I think they are keeping them as healthy as necessary.
Yeah, it probably just depends on the person and my guess is they all say they work out just to sound cooler, but most don't. At the very least they should be doing heavy cardio.
Thanks, I commented on your facebook but you put more details into this one. I thought they practiced 14 hours but 8 hours seems alot better, usually I get tired after eating dinner and take a nap, I wouldnt be a very good progamer. And is it true the less bunk beds in a room the better player you are that stays in there because I remember like Savior had his own room, and Boxer shared with Canata. You are so lucky to be doing this!

why? doesnt heavy cardio make you smaller? oO they need to do weights with light cardio
Why were they uncomfortable to have a female in their presence? Is it a cultural thing, or do you think they're just not used to it?
Oh, and can someone explain the bedrooms to me? Why do the beds look empty, with things folded and stacked on the foot of the bed or the floor next to the bed?
