Well, it is all over. Today was the final Filthy NA Cup.

It was a pretty great way to end, if I'm honest. We wound up with the last event having a little over $2200 in prize money. We had some amazing players - Neeb, Scarlett, Solar, Losira, MMA, uThermal. Rotterdam and feardragon did a great job casting. Viewership was good. I really cannot think of a better send off than we had earlier today.

Before I go meandering through my thoughts, I want to take some time to thank all the people who made this possible over the year. Apologies if I forget someone.

Thanks to:
Draven, Gauntlet, feardragon, Rotterdam, Albatross, LordTerran, LadyAzylis, PhoenixTears, VampyWorm, BloodyRafe, AScarecrow, Smelly, PengWin, Eddie(OSC), Matcherino, and YOU!

I originally started the Filthy Cup back in 2016. The NA Scene had a bit of a dearth of events at the time, and I wanted to get some content for my channel. We only ran 10 events that year before I realized that I just didnt have the time to make it work.

2017 rolled around and I thought I would give it another shot, but I had learned from my previous mistakes. I teamed up with Gauntlet, to handle casting and production. I just had to provide money, and handle signups and advertising. Also, I had to find admins! Man, let me tell you, Admins are worth their weight in GOLD.

2017 felt pretty successful, all in all, but the partnership between PSISTORM and Gauntlet came to an end so I decided to explore some other options.

2018 was more of the same, except we migrated over to the amazing feardragon as our producer/caster. But honestly, this was where we hit a bit of a snag. Not with feardragon, obviously, he was great. Rather, in 2018 I hit a bit of a malaise.

Since the launch of Legacy of the Void, I've had a harder and harder time with the game. The changes didnt really suit my playstyle, and I found I didnt have the time (or motivation) to re-learn the game. This really has made it more difficult for me to keep the same level of passion for the game that I've maintained all these years. It isnt gone, and I doubt it ever will be, but it definitely took a blow.

Then all the avilo stuff happened, and I realized that I was putting a lot of time and money in to a thing that.... I mean not only do I not enjoy as much as I used to, but I was doing it to support a scene that just wasnt in the same place I was. So I made the decision to end the series.

We havent run them (other than todays) for a little while now, and I have to be honest. It has been pretty amazing. I have a full time day job. I effectively work a second full time job helping run PSISTORM. On top of that, I compete in obstacle course racing, and try to do a lot of car stuff too. Removing these tournaments from my schedule has been incredibly relaxing. And saving a few hundred dollars every month isnt bad either.

Other random stuff:
Filthy Cup was just a giant money pit. I had some great support from OSC and Matcherino with some of the prizing, so not all of it came from my pocket, but most of it did. Whenever people didnt use all the coupons, I kicked in the money to make up the difference and guarantee prize pools were hit. On a regular month I was spending $250-$300 out of my own pocket running these. Not the end of the world, but not nothing either. The event was generally not run on my channel, so I had no ad revenue, no subs, nothing to offset the cost.

Players could be a giant pain in the ass. Most of the players were amazing. That said, there are some players who... never broke any rules, but were really unpleasant to deal with. If I had even the flimsiest pretext of an excuse I would have banned them for the sake of me and my admins. The worst part is, they were fairly big names. Players I would expect more from.

Neeb. Neeb is a literal god. Seriously. Dude won 15 out of 67 filthy cups. He took second 2 more cups. He was also kind enough to not just show up and crush everyone every week He took some weeks off! Neeb was also never a pain in the ass to deal with, which I really appreciate.

I may run other, non-series, tournaments in the future. The occasional one-off. I like running them, generally speaking, but I like running bigger events more than $100-200 cups. That said, it will be a while. I am going to enjoy having a little bit of additional rest and money.

So you decided to stop supporting the SC2 scene in the way you were via this series because...of me getting voted into Nation Wars? That seems a bit immature, and was a huge part of the reason why i was voted into Nation Wars in the first place - people saw how certain entities within SC2 were ganging up on me, and i've been a consistent content creator via my stream for a long time in SC2.

For all the claims of people saying i'm toxic, your reasoning or impetus for pulling more out of SC2 is toxicity incarnate, the part in regards to me at least.

Everyone is all talk when it comes to not being toxic or working together to keep the SC2 scene growing and thriving.

I do not know you, never met you or interacted with you (to my knowledge). I reached out to you on reddit, as well as a ting spokesperson that was threatening to not have neeb play in nationwars when i got voted in - with no reply back from either party.

It's admirable that you poured your own money into the scene via weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly tournaments. I think more people should be doing it, tho it really does feel like a money sink, especially if you're not getting as much of a return on the money from viewers or revenue that is necessary to sustain such things. I felt this even when i just hosted one or two tournaments in the past for balance mods.

Perhaps, in the future if you decide to start these up again, i could help cast a cup or two and work with you in that type of capacity. I do not quite understand the grudge you and other people hold against me in SC2 when i've never spoken a word to you or ever interacted with you.

I think you kind of fell into the same trap as most people that have no idea of me besides watching a few stream clips where i'm trash talking someone on ladder. I've probably even trash talked some of your players while playing on ladder admittedly.

Anyways, I have said this to many people so many times in the past - i'm willing to work with you or anyone else in the future to help the SC2 scene grow. Good luck with whatever your endeavors are.

I dunno why you bother playing the misunderstood victim. Can't you simply appreciate the fact that people think that someone who routinely accuses people of hacking while having no evidence is contemptible?

I remember watching when HuK was still playing, and I really liked listening to the Gauntlet guys. My favourite moments were probably watching Neeb crush it in tournaments, and I think it was very fitting that he should be the one who won the last cup.

Thanks for putting these tournaments on for so long. It's not easy with money, players, and audiences, but you did it three years in a row (admittedly not 156 weeks but in a period that landed in three years).

Will be glad if to see if you run any more tournaments in the future.

as a no-name, nobody CraftCup admin guy .... you made the lives of me and all the CraftCup staff more difficult than things needed to be. the RA3 events that were done under the ConquerCup name and you joined in ... you were also very difficult to deal with.

CraftCup admins had a much easier time dealing with Nerchio, Sjow, Goody, Stephano, HuK and even Naniwa.
ConquerCup admins had a much easier time dealing with firgli, Technique, Das Duelon.

All these guys could easily have buried me for many of the judgement calls i made that went somewhat against them during many 1,000+ player CraftCup and CraftCup Lite events. They never did. Dealing with them was easy. The logistics of running a 1000+ player open are pretty onerous. The big name players all made it as easy as possible. You made things more difficult at every turn.

Nerchio and Naniwa had reputations as "shit disturbers". Meh, they were absolute gentlemen. Technique, one of the best C&C players in the history of the game, was challenging but after 1 DQ he was easy to deal with and made a few thousand dollars. The rest of the guys i listed were pretty easy to deal with and very REASONABLE in the objections they made.

just my $0.02 on what is was like dealing with the "big names" in SC2 at the time of the CraftCup and the ConquerCup.

The general consensus amongst the CraftCup and ConquerCup staff is :you are hard to deal with man. Personally, i think you are difficult to deal with.

I feel bad for guys like FilthyRake who put their own money into stuff like this. Lucky for us at CraftCup and ConquerCup that "Hercules" paid for everything.

hey guys, look, I dont want this to become another fight about avilo, so let's just end it with this post.

avilo: honestly, I never got any messages from you. I believe that you sent them, but I'm not sure what mechanism you used. All I can say is I havent seen anything.

from a larger view, you and your fans won, so I'd call myself happy and call it a day.

To everyone who has commented talking about the event itself, thank you. I have a lot of good memories from the cups, and I hope you all do too!
