So, last year was a pretty unpopular showing, mostly because it was depressing and ended on a hippo gang rape animation that most people found at least a tad unsettling.
This year was way more upbeat,

Man, there was some really good stuff this year, Stripy was one of my favorites, its done in a very old school Disney fashion and set to one of my favorite pieces of classical music, Hungarian Dance no. 5, and its really well done, plays off the contrast of straight lines and curves, color and black and white, and really does a lovely job illustrating about the monotony of daily life.
Snowfall was a really, really sweet animation, exceptionally beautiful, its a really cool meditation on the nature of romance and the intersection between different sexualities. Its really kind of chill, and maybe a little sad, but without really being melancholy. Really well done.
The Story of Percival Pilts was so fucking cute, like shit man it was adorable. Really cute character designs and stunning stop motion animation. Its nothing deeply meditative or conceptual, its really just a beautifully done and really sweet little story about someone who pretty much reaches for the stars and refuses to let go of a dream.
Tant de Forets is so damn pretty, I can't claim to have LOVED the hamfisted nature of the message, but wow its pretty, and the message isn't BAD, but just wow its gorgeous. Visual feast for the eyes, incredibly beautiful. One of the absolute prettiest things I've seen in a long time.
Love in the time of March Madness is pretty funny, its an interesting insight into how height (and really most physical anything) can play into your perceptions of yourself and life, as well as society's perceptions of you. Viewed mostly through the lens of romance.
World of Tomorrow. Wow. HILARIOUS. 100% brilliant and hilarious british humor. I know the trailer doesn't convey ANY of that and makes it seem really pretentiously high arts, but its really not, its A-FUCKING-DORABLE. Its about a future version of a little girl that takes the little girl on a small tour of some aspects of her life in the future, and its just so funny. I dont want to say anything specific about it because its really just too cute and funny to spoil. The general tone is kind of bleak and deadpan except the little girl is just a little girl and its all just hilarious. 100% fantastic, the visuals are ultra simple and definitely aren't to my taste, but its just so great.
So uh, yeah, take a visit to their website, see if there are any showings around where you live, if there are GO SEE IT! I can't recommend this year enough, you'll also get to see SANJAY'S SUPER TEAM if you like a little studio called PIXAR!
If you're interested in supporting the show they're all non-profit now so they're running purely off donations and crowdsourcing to be able to do these awesome showings, and they're trying to potentially get showings in theater if people want it, so if you're interested totally donate, its a really cool experience to get to see these animations from around the world that normally just get lost in the overwhelming sea that is the animation world.
