It's amazing to me, because I grew up using like second-hand outdated computers and playing some really low-end games, which were fun, don't get me wrong, but now I see these awesome beautiful games with all these features and people are like "This game is shit."
Wow. Well said. "What have you done for me lately" attitude is common these days. Other games like Grey Goo are completely dead mere months after release. I think the Activision-Blizzard relationship and the fact that they have shareholders makes it a lot more difficult for changes to be implemented in SC2. Now that Heroes is released I like to think they will ramp up SC2 development and close out the trilogy with a lot of community suggestions. I'm more of an optimist.

it deserves to die. don't blame consumers. Dot Eating Maze Games got better throughout the 80s and less and less people played them. consumers were bored with the genre... and were spending even more money on other stuff.
publishers and studios are well aware of the macro trends in consumer spending and are adjusting their spending on RTS game development accordingly.
i really like to play NHL '94 Hockey. i don't run around on NHL '15 forums and whine about the game or the consumers of the hockey video game genre... and i damn sure don't whine about EA.... i just play NHL '94

Sorry thats not fair. You are just working under the assumption, that i or other people who genuinely don't enjoy Starcraft 2 and bring up a comparison to SC:BW (for instance) have a certain mindset. What kind of mindset would that be, what are you assuming is going on in the head of the "average esport hardcore fan" that makes them bitter? And why are you arguing with bitterness in the first place? I personally do not feel the way you describe. Im over 30 yo, i have limited time for gaming, even though it's a passion of mine and i decided to dedicate my limited time to a small range of games, rather then following/playing a lot of them. The reason i don't enjoy Sc2 is not, my high expectations towards blizzard games were not met, it's just i don't enjoy the gameplay. I don't hate Blizzard or any of their games, i just don't play the games that don't enjoy. You are over complicating things. If i see an episode of a new TV series and i don't like it, i won't watch the next episode, or i won't after i took some time to get sure it doesn't fit my interests. Im not hating on HBO, or whoever did it, im not disappointed, im just not interested. And that's the exact same case here. Ofc i could spend time with Sc2 and find that reasonable or mediocre enjoying, but honestly i don't because i see no value in it, when i can spend my time with games i genuinely enjoy a lot. and then it doesn't matter to me, how old those games are.
No, I understand you perfectly, and that post nearly sums it up. You are dedicated to a small pool of games, and you have no reason for playing a game you think is subpar when there's clearly a better one you could be spending your time on. I get it.
My point is that SC2 and a lot of "tryhard" games necessarily lead to a certain elitism, whether you're aware of it or not. I played SC2 exclusively for 5 years, and WC3 exclusively for 4 years before that...I've been playing Blizzard RTS's for a large chunk of my life, and it wasn't until recently when I quit SC2 that I started enjoying games that I originally thought subpar and not worth playing. There's a lot of good games out there that will make for a fun evening or two, and you don't have to make a career out of it .

I guess i would consider myself a satisfied customer. But there are just things in the games a lot of people complain about : its really hard not to cringe and go "why cant you just fix this"
I guess its also distorted by childhood memories too. There was some point where blizzard went from this likeable company that created games out of passion (like diablo 2), to where they just design parts of the game to make maximum profit out of the people who enjoy their games. (Diablo 3, Real money auction house, you can buy Virtual items with real money now - we will just take 20%)
All you need to look at their pricing model. 20 Euros, the price of a new game - for a character transfer in WOW. An automated process that they have made millions on. 60 euros for 60 cardpacks, that cant be traded or you dont even really own.
Thats just shady.

yeah sure, i think the same way in that regard. But that a game like Sc2 can be fun for a couple of quick games with your buddies here and there was never up to discussion in the first place, i think. Ofc what i think about, is which type of game really get's me, motivates me for X + Years and evolves is interesting to follow. As a casual game, im fine with SC2, the big hyped esports competion thingy doesn't catch me though. But from what you wrote last, i think we're on the same page here (;
