So there is one really uncomfortable truth that I've come to learn in the 2+ years of being here on the Team Liquid community and I think it's about time that I came to terms with it.
LeLoup just is a terrible name for someone who is trying to become at least a bit recognizable.
50% of the people that try to say it can't. 30% of the people most likely won't remember it after seeing it once or twice. Of the remaining % who even knows if they'll come back to it again. Not to mention because the name itself is French it doesn't do anything to help be seen by any potential audience (as I only speak English).
Don't get me wrong, I love the name and it's what I've been known by for quite a bit of time. There are still some feelings attached to it, but overall it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Maybe if it had a few less issues it would be better, but it's just a headache TBH.
It's for that reason that a while ago I started making preparations to switch to another name. And today is finally the day that I am doing it.
Outside of LD (for now, may change later) I'm going to be calling myself Jinxed.
The name suits me better TBH as it accurately describes what happens to me in every single competitive adventure. Good but never great. Talented with no luck. Knowledgeable but still ignorant. A bit depressing? Maybe, but it's a title I have come to love.
So as such, all things from me are now going to be on JinxedDota. Below are the new links to my Twitch and Youtube channel. Also I have already switched my twitter over (though the name is still LeLoup on there).
As for what I'm going to do next. Well... let's just say that there is probably going to be a '5' post coming up sometime next month.
http://Twitch.tv/jinxeddota https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkOhfeIc4PEninfiOcpQoBA (Work In Progress) http://twitter.com/jinxeddota
Also since Twitch now has my VODS from LPCL Season 4 muted I will have to upload them to Youtube (them being on Twitch made me a bit lazy, sorry about that). I will hopefully get around to it as soon as I'm done making sure everything is set up properly with the channel.
Thanks guys for being an awesome community. Nothing but <3 from me, that's for sure.

Leloup is pretty easy I feel and actually prefer it to jinxed!
My name constantly gets fucked up, I've been called...
C-R-M-S (spelled out every letter) CREAMS Sierra Mist (sounds like that when you say c-r-m-s) 'sir-mms'
It's just crimsa with no vowels so I just say it as if it is 'crims'.
Oh well.
Good luck in your transformation and let's do another LPCL yaya! :D
|
Jinxed is about 10,000 times worse.
|
I think most names on LD are retarded, myself included. That's just how it is.
|
TL really has a pretty high rate of unpronounceable names. I'm not sure why.
It's kind of interesting to find out how people actually say their names themselves.
I had crms as "sərms" or "c.r.m.s". I definitely wouldn't guess to put a stressed "i" in there. Not even going to try to pronounce morphling guy.

I had crms as "sərms or "c.r.m.s". I definitely wouldn't guess to put a stressed "i" in there. that's actually pretty logical, I'm surprised I don't really recall ever hearing that. As you said, nobody should logically put a stressed "i" in a word with no "i" in it. Which is why I don't get mad when people say my name "wrong". I just say call me crims. ^___^
p.s. Leloup/Jinxed; LPCL! Figure if I just keep saying it maybe it will come true! But seriously, you should do another one. I'd be happy to help in any way you might need volunteers etc.

But its 1,000,000 times easier than loupinconnu (which was my twitch stream)
@crms I'm going to wait until 6.82 I think, but there will be info no later than early October.

nothing better than some spicy curry
jinx<leloup

I remember your name and can pronounce LeLoup wtf
But again I remember everyone's name and speak french so yeah, might be I'm not the best example.

jinxed is horrendous, i've always liked 'lelup'.
is morphling guy supposed to sound as 'ash(v)utini'? at least that's how i've always read it.
and for crms, i've always pronounced 'crimson', no idea from where i picked the last two letters.

have you guys heard of iceland

Neither do I.

Opened the blog not really reading the title, went "Oh cool its LeLoup" then read that you think noone recognizes you by that name and you'd prefer to be called jinxed.
I mean I get it. I am/was staboteur on teamliquid, and that was the final pangs of my teenage emo days and a poor representation of what I am today, so I made a new account with a better name.
...but Jinxed is waaay worse than LeLoup, so I have no idea what you're thinking.
(edit) and I definitely read crms letter by letter.

yeah it's not easy to change nickname even if it's back to what you previously always used
not that I know anything about it or so
|
wow you are actually one of the people I regularly recognize along with firebolt, yango and drpanda (rocketbear now)
I think leloup is a way cooler name than jinxed
|
I always liked your ID Leloup
In my case sadly not many people I know can pronounce Eulogy right or even know what it is... I don't even think my ID is that difficult
|
ye me too, why change i think its fine really.
you will always be leloup for me

Even though LeLoup is french it's much better than Jinxed in my opinion. It kind of sounds awful in a pretentious way.

Everybody's name is better than mine guys

I mean, your new name just invokes the image of

If that's what you are going for, that's good I guess.

In all honesty if I had the LeLoup twitter/twitch channels it wouldn't be an issue. I don't though and all the other options are pretty sub par IMO (loupinconnu, leloupdota, leloup1, nothing really works for me IMO). So between them and Jinxed I decided to go with the new name. Also I think Jinxed Dota rolls off better, but that's just me lol.

jinxed is probably better for persuing a wider audience imo
|
Streamers miss-pronounce my name just about every time our game is streamed, but that's my name and I like it. It's also nice to always get the username you want. when registering to a site. If you like your name then imo, you should keep it. Having a different name won't make you more recognizable and imo jinxed is much more standard/boring than LeLoup.
When I think of jinxed:

When I think of LeLoup: LCPL
And that's most important in a name imo. A distinguishable name that can stick with people.
Edit: God damnit Comeh

The good thing about doing this now is that I am having to restart and start again anyways. All of my previous twitch VODs are muted thanks to the new policy so I have to do something about that regardless. If it doesn't work (or the LeLoup name on twitch/youtube opens up) then I may consider a switch back, but honestly I happen to like the name and I think I'm going to try it for a bit.
In fact I'm actually setting up to stream right now. http://twitch.tv/jinxeddota

I'm sorry to say but I think that you've jinxed this name change.
...
In all honesty, having a recognizable and a relatively unique name that already has history beats having a nick that rolls of the tongue easier. I really feel like worrying about having the perfect handles on the Internet should be the least of your worries. Getting recognized and building a "brand" is about way more than the right name, and you can make it with basically any nick possible, as long as the work you are doing is worth getting recognized for. I'd say just stick with what you've got. Obviously do what you feel like is the best, but to me it seems like you might be over thinking this and making it a much bigger issue than it actually is.
Oh, and Pokemon and League connections aside, http://www.jinx.com/shop/coll/dota/ is what I think of when someone says "jinxed dota".
|
I guess if I was pro my tweeter would be @duckdota. Not too shabby eh
|
I'm not really liking the jinxed name either I get what you're trying to do though. I can't get the Kirsed twitter name and it annoys me good luck with the new name.
|
Mistake. Jinxed sounds cliché. People know cliché, which is french. LeLoup is better.
