Hell, the concept from the beginning was a bit skewed. Piccolo has been training his entire life, yet from a single year of training he goes from 400+ to 3,500 power level? Was he slacking this whole time?

Likewise with the Oozaru form for Vegeta. The Oozaru supposedly increases power level by 10x, and Vegeta's base was already 18,000. This meant at Oozaru, he already had a higher power level than Captain Ginyu.

shameless plug, but relevant, it's a dragonball-themed mud that handles the power level situation pretty well (it's your HP). But, the base numbers do line up somewhat with the various fan estimates for the show. However, the modifier on the transformations is drastically different there, much lower in fact, so some of the later numbers posted here and elsewhere are of course, absurd, in that hilariously fun DBZ way. In the end the actual number doesn't really matter, does it? I imagine if you tried to estimate "power level" numbers for Naruto or any other superpower action show it'd look pretty similar though.

bonus fact about this mud: they have a small low level starcraft-themed zone on planet Arlia, and a few other cute references hidden throughout the huge world.

I don't believe it's possible to estimate Naruto's numbers at all. I mean, in dbz, you were given power levels then you had the multipliers and comparisons going on but in Naruto, there was never any levels given, only comparisons between x and y.
