Hey, I started playing starcraft in the very first season, I was pretty much the best (95 in bronze).

I had never played an RTS before and I didnt take too fast to starcraft. Later (maybe about a year or so later) I started getting very into starcraft, mostly due to day[9]. I was inspired by day9's ep 100 with his life of starcraft. I worked SO very hard, doing tournaments and everything and I slowly climbed the latter to diamond. It took a very long time.

As you can see have descended in skill very quickly. I actually had to go back home and take care of my mom who was going through prescription drug abuse treatment, that's neither here nor there though.I have such a fervor for this sport that I love so much I just HAVE to get as good or even better than I was. I dont know why I write this blogs and stuff but I think ill try to do this very often. I wanted to get back into starcraft because I love the game and the community. I've met so many asmazing people through this game it is insane.
I would love to hear some of your stories ^_^

when the WoL beta ended a friend bought the game and was playing it a bit. he told me that it is a game which requires alot of skill and he thought it is the right game for me because i already played one single game the last ~5years.
i was going to him and we learned the game together on one PC. we improved and when i installed SC2 on my own computer is was platin after the placement and stayed there for 2 seasons. i was playing protoss and didnt actually watch that much sc2, i basicall knew 1-2 BOs for every matchup and PvP was always 4gate. i kinda lost interest in 1v1 and started some teamgames with friends but my computer couldnt really handle teamgames so i dropped the game.
i started to watch sc2 on twitch though.
recently i got a new notebook which can handle sc2 fine and in the last 2 months i played like 400 games, most of them teamgames.
now i play random and try to learn every playstyle in sc2, so far i enjoy it.

Actually if you leave the game for a long time and come back, the decrease in your rank may not be totally because of a decrease in your ability. Hypothetically, if you play up to a certain skill level and travel through time 1 year ahead, you will probably be in a lower league than before because:
1) In your absence, those who always played constantly have been getting better.
2) At the start there are a lot of casuals, but as time passes, only the competitive ones remain. Since league distribution is percentage-based, it is harder to place in a higher league.
As for my story, in WoL, I placed bronze, played a lot and climbed to diamond quickly in a few months. Then I played on and off and stayed there for maybe a year or so. Later on I had some new friends who played too, which got me back into the game, and I climbed to masters and then GM.
In HotS I switched to just playing in the Korean server and at my peak I was high masters, fighting GMs occasionally. Then I stopped playing, although I still followed the competitive scene ardently. Recently, around the start of this month, I've been playing again. My mmr had degenerated to around gold, but I played 100 games or so this month and am now around high diamond, pushing master. My old winrates used to be around 65% vT 53% vZ and 45% vP. But my winrate for this season is something along the lines of 38% vT 68% vZ and 45% vP. The prevailing strategies have changed a lot and I am still trying to find a stable opener for TvT. My TvZ is probably good only because I use the outdated 14cc blue flame timing into bio switch that people rarely expect since it's an old build.

Hey this is awesome! I'm glad you are getting back into Starcraft! I don't play that often. When I first started the game in 2011 I was placed instantly into platinum for no reason when i was probably at a bronze skill level. Since then I've played a few games a season. Best of luck to you!

To add to this discussion:
I started at gold league and very quickly climbed up to diamond. I've been stuck in diamond for about 3 years now though; every time I'm about to hit masters, I end up taking a month-long break from SC2. The good news is, though, that I'm definitely a lot better than I used to be; the ladder is just getting harder and harder. Diamond league now is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than what it was in 2012. If you manage to get back into diamond now, you've come a long way.

I started in early 2011 and suffered from bad ladder anxiety for well over a year. But, made worse by the fact that when I did play I played at i-Cafes as my laptop was too old and shitty to run the game at a reasonable level (I still watched a lot though and often whored the forums even I did not post all that much).
I basically played team games for the first half of 2011 before dipping into 1v1 later that year and then on into 2012. I got up into Gold after starting from Bronze, but would still devote half my gaming time to team games. Another reason I spent a lot of time in team games was that 2 - 3 of my good mates also played from time to time, and it was a lot of fun playing team games and messing about with my friends; I think the highest we got as a team (2v2/3v3/4v4) was to Gold/Platinum.
I stopped playing towards the end of 2012 and thought that would be it for me. I am 30+ years old and it was time to do more IRL stuff. But, HOTS rekindled the interest in the game (it never really died, to be honest, just reduced itself to warm embers). Around the same time, I finally bought myself a PC and installed the game. So, it's been back to SC2 and back to Gold league with about 150 or so 1v1 games this season (I play a lot less team games than I used to as my mates have, more or less, moved on from SC2). The leagues are a lot harder than they used to be, but I feel like my own play has improved.
I'm not too fixated on league. However, I would like to get into Diamond by the end of 2014. I am not sure if I will be able to. I recently moved to a new job and a new town. And, I think I spend too much time in front of the PC. I'll be doing a lot more IRL and social stuff over the next few months, so it'll be a matter of trying to balance everything with IRL stuff coming first. Next season I am considering switching to Terran, just for that season, as it has always been my hardest match-up. At a base level, I just don't get it (in the way that I think I get PvP and PvZ). It might be fun to play, especially Mech style.
Glad to see you are back in this (infuriating and addictive) game. Go well (to you and your mom).

When I got into starcraft I was placed in silver even though my best strategy was to worker rush, micro workers around while building more at home, eventually lose my initial workers, and then worker rush again. I learned how to macro and, after becoming an unstoppable macro machine I worked my way up to platinum and nearly diamond. It turned out nobody in diamond league wanted to play a macro game so I lost to one and two-base all ins. Every game. So I got demoted from platinum to gold, because I lost to people in diamond (???).
Stopped playing for a year, came back at the same skill level, placed in silver. I will eventually work my way back up but I've been busy a lot so maybe not.

I was in diamond ever since beta, played first 2 seasons or so until Masters came out and quit. Came back recently after playing HOTS campaign and 6 pooled my way into platinum. I've since quit HOTS for Starbow and loving it . Give starbow a try and if it works for you there is a ladder you can grind instead of playing HOTS ladder.
