Blue = Myself | Black = Friend
I'm not sure what it is, but this stuff always gets me heated. I should've just let it go, but I'm not exactly sure why I get so heated about these kinds of topics. I've played both games for over 1000+ hours and still, it bothers me. Trying to figure out how to walk away and not let it get to my head.

I only see an [image loading] tag, maybe you could describe the disagreement in words instead? Alternatively try fixing the pic =)

moba games are designed to replicate the whole dueling/guild aspect of MMORPGs ...
I'm not sure how this can be true. There wasn't that much around when AoS was made.
And arguments like LoL vs Dota or PC vs Consoles and such are pretty pointless, most people make their opinions and never budge, you just need to realize when it's not worth the fight.

I'm just glad it wasn't about anything important or else I'd get all riled up as well.

Maybe its because you're at the "climax" of the argument. x)

the image extension/ tag needs to be in the link to view on TL. gotta click view image on the imgur link and link that.
that being said, fuck mobas.

No good discussion can stem from the opening statement "But dota sucks...". You should have avoided it altogether.

I like both games in their own ways. I like the fact that spell casters don't lose their usefulness in LoL due to AP scaling. but I also like how a hero's role changes according to how the game is going in dota.
I think LoL did a great job in cutting down some unnecessary/less interesting part to make the game goes faster but I also like how Dota has more interesting mechanics like day/night cycle with vision change and juking path.
there is no way to argue which game is better though, personally I am playing whatever my friends are playing and this is coming from a dota player who played like 6 years of dota.

You shouldn't bother arguing specifics like that. If you can't help yourself argue on the initial faulty premise: AoS/DotA are not based strictly on MMORPG fighting, in fact AoS' release occurred at about the same time as the common model of MMORPG fighting actually started to take shape with EQ, UO, and other near 1st gen MMORPG. There may be some similarities, but the games are based in no small part a merge of existing RTS fundamentals as well. If anything it's more that they carry some common ancestors (Diablo and other Action RPGs).
Besides, from everything I've seen the preferences usually come down pretty simply to if you prefer more of a team brawling style (LoL) or if you'd rather a style more about control & efficiency (DotA). Most of the design choices fall out from those two styles. It seems like Lol wants heroes to be hitting each other as much as possible (and requiring good teamwork while doing so) while DotA is more content to make the game a contest over efficiency and map control with the explosive and often brief hero fighting being one expression of that. With the preference being so fundamental to the philosophies of the games you'll never convince anyone of your side and neither side is really right. They're different sides of the same genre really. It's like arguing if Quake or CS is the better competitive FPS; they're two different audiences.
(Though really you probably get mad because your friend is wrong lol, not because of his preference, but his reasoning isn't accurate)

I doubt you'll change his mind tbh. This conversation would go on forever and you two will likely keep on arguing back and forth with no end in sight. I would've just said that I prefer x and moved on. As for walking away, write the following: "to each his own ".

I don't play either anymore because of their communities and the fact that I get bored of playing on the same goddamn map over and over, although I prefer DotA's more intricate one in this regard.

well said, noob down, lol sucks.
