Bouncing back and forth between Dota 2 and Sc2 and constantly being mediocre at both because I can't focus on just one. I don't have time for both because I play other games like WoW with friends and have time to get good at one game but I just CANNOT decide.

I love Dota 2 but I never feel like I have any feedback on improving or nothing to work towards like I do in Sc2. I miss the ladder. I love the cosmetics and what Valve does for the game and the game itself is very fun. But, there are a few problems from the get go. I want to stream a game and Dota doesn't have many people watching player streams, plus with no "GM" I can't use that as a draw in to my stream. In the end i always fine myself coming back to Dota.

Sc2 is an awesome game and I have a lot of fun playing it. I can't play as many games in a row as Dota but I love the ladder and I like being able to work towards something. The ladder is fun, weekley tournaments are fun, the game itself is okay but will probably be more fun when I get timings down. Overall I feel there is more room for player advancement in sc2.

But there also the fact that it's been this long and I just can't focus on one game which seems pretty stupid that an adult such as myself can't make the simple decision to play one game or the other and it has surprisingly been bothering me enough that my RL suffers.

I don't know, this blog sucks but I had to get it off my chest, im sick of not knowing w.hat to play

You should play whichever one offers you funner gameplay. From your descriptions I feel like you enjoy Dota2 more. Unless streaming is very important for you, I don't think that's something you should be worried about. In addition, Dota2 is less taxing and is probably going to get a lot of attention now that it has been officially released. There's also plenty of room for competitive play in it.

Lastly, though you seem to want to be a competitive player, there's nothing wrong with playing both games for fun.

Yea I probably should just suck it up and pick one, it's tough though I am pretty much the most indecisive person on the planet.

Just those two?

If it has to be one or the other, pick SC2...unless your friends want to play DotA with you or something.

Solo-queue dota sounds like hell

Why pick one? Do you want to become a progamer? Are you absolutely determined to make a living from this?
Cause if not than gaming is just a means of having fun and relaxing for you, and you are not obliged to choose just one game. I am the same way, though i have longer periods of playing one game. Like 2 months dota, 4 weeks cs2, than 1 month wow. But who cares, as long as I am enjoying myself?

Of course it may be that you enjoy feeling the improvement in your play, which is understandable, and I feel the same way. Thats why I play longer periods of dota2. So you can focus on one game, while not completely commiting to it, and dropping everything else. I mean its great to have friends to play with no matter what the game is.

Why do you feel the need to stream? Just play whatever and switch if you get bored. If this is the most pressing concern for you atm you must have a pretty sweet life.

Dota easily has the larger viewer base on an average day (for instance right now on twitch there are around 25k viewers for dota and only around 11k for SC2), and the fact that you can play more dota than sc2 speaks pretty loudly. I'm no Dota fan but to me it sounds like a pretty easy choice.

Also, Dota only now is coming out of Beta, lots of room for growth.
Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I'd strike the sun if it insulted me.

Is it really that important for you to be good at the game? Can't you just pick a game based on what you enjoy most?

In regards to streaming, Dota 2 viewer numbers seem to dwarf SC2 on twitch, even when no tournaments are going on. So if streaming's an important point for you, then go with Dota 2, otherwise pick what you think is most fun (or even better, play both based on what you feel like at the moment)

The reason I want to pick one game to be good at is I only have time for one, the rest is work, gym and school and playing wow with friends. The reason I want to be good at a game instead of playing for fun is having is my hobby and I really enjoy competition, I also lack achievements in real life use gaming to fill that void in the mean time as it gives me something I enjoy to work towards.

As far as streaming its not extremely important, I want to stream but it's not make or break. I want to compete at a amateur level at a game more to be honest. I would likely stream either way.

Then play Starcraft. You rely entirely on yourself and there is a pretty good league system. Both make it easy to track your progress. In Dota you can literally play hundreds of hours and still think you have no grasp on the game. Of course Starcraft needs the same amount of hours, but there is an actually progress-route and you can more precisely figure out what you need to work on

I'm confused as to why you NEED to only pick one. If you enjoy both why can't you play both?

I don't see any problems here.

Dota is fun if you have friends. It's basically limitless fun with a good group of buddies. Try to get people playing with you, make some friends.

I stopped playing Sc2 2 years ago when I realized how much of a lonely, isolated, and stressing experience it was. All alone against an opponent, with no communication in between, clicking like a madman whole game doing all sorts of stuff. It just wasn't for me anymore, I really tried.

Dota though, still feels fun after 1400 hours because every game can go wildly different due to item/hero combos and also FRIENDS. Make friends man. If you do have friends, make more ^^

Sc2 is not a game that you play to have fun. It's simply not designed to be. It's only fun if you really enjoy its competitive aspect.

I don't NEED to pick one and will obviously continue to play both however I want to pick one to focus on and use the other for a side game that I play casually once or twice a week, however I feel like I wouldn't play Sc2 unless I was focusing on it because it seems pointless to play it without the intent of improving which casual play wouldn't really do. I could play Dota casually fairly easily though.

I'm actually leaning towards Sc2 atm just because as said before there is really no skill metric in Dota unless you are extremely self marketable.

ask yourself which one you enjoy playing more. I came to the very same crossroads with the same exact two games, I still play sc2 here or there but not a day goes by where i regret my decision to play dota more because frankly i have more furn while playing it. Now this isn't a statement on whether or not dota or sc2 is better, just which one i enjoy more. hopefully this helped somehow :D

I'm not sure how to quantify enjoy more, let me just say if I had to go to a deserted island and had to pick one of the two games it would be Dota. I can also play Dota for longer in a row before being exhausted.

Otherwise I am extremely bad at knowing what I actually enjoy more.

to me it sounds like you enjoy dota more then. Granted if you get really good at sc2 you'll have a way to quantify it and the self-gratification will probably be higher. But to me it doesn't sound like you want to play a game obssesively everyday. You just want to have that game where you can log on whenever you want and feel competent. Sc2 makes it difficult to do this while in dota 2 its a lot easier to pick up once you know the game well enough.

once you run out of time to play both, you will get stucked into one.
I am sticking with LoL because my GF is playing it also

it's a shame because I almost completely stopped playing and watching SC2 now

Get a real hobby. Unless you absolutely love gaming, it's a pretty pointless thing to do for that many hours...

I do absolutely love gaming, had other hobbies, no interest in not gaming. I also workout 4 times a week, bike every day and spend time with GF, this is a main reason why I can only focus on playing one game because of time.

Talk to a family member or friend, someone that really knows you[and is willing to listen and understand], and if that someone totally knows what you are talking about, so much the better! People that know you better than you know yourself are a lot of help in these sorts of situations.

If you can't make up your mind, flip a coin.

Heads SC2, Tails DoTA. Being forced to make a decision that way will help you determine what you actually want to do.

Something like:

*Flip*

Heads. Okay, SC2! Well, shit, you know, I really wanted to play DOTA..

Haha, yea, this was my first thought too but all it revealed is I really am unable to make a decision, I think at this point I am going to focus on practicing Sc2 and see where that takes me for the next few months and play Dota casually when I don't feel like playing Sc2.

Likely hoping this helps me make a final decision based on how quickly I improve at Sc2.

Or I might just change my mind completely and focus on Dota 2 since Valve has made that game so awesome.

I think you just need to really decide on whether or not you want to decide which game to play. Once said decision has been made, you have already decided that you will decide on which game to play, and then all that is left is to make the decision. Being undecided on deciding about something is pretty indecisive if you ask me, but I dont want to decide this for you.
