I see my high school friends plenty and I'm 3000 miles away. It's the true test of friendship. Your relationship with your real true friends will continue to flourish and the weak friendships will die away.

Where you going to college? (my bro and I are current seniors also) And those are definitely 1st world problems, if you have any spare money you can help pay for my brother's and my college expenses :D.

Do your parents really want you to run their business without any college education or business experience? Or would it be one of those hands off and let the CEO do all the work while you roll in the dough deals.

^ and you should probably work on the smell thing if you want to be a businessman since there's a lot of human interaction

Dude, going to college might be the best thing that ever is going to happen to you. I am not sure what the college age is in the US but afaik it´s around like 18?
Seriously still staying over at grandma every week?
So little interaction with regular people that noone told you you smelled?
You think living 40 minute away is FAR?
And most importantly: You want to run your dad's company eventually?

Seriously, go to college. Even if you hate it it will be a good experience for you.

1. What is this family business? And did you want to work for it/ run it because you're passionate about it, or because it's easy money?

2. Why are you so against going to college? (College isn't for everyone, but you seem quite unhappy with the fact that you might go and get a better education and fantastic experiences.)

3. If your college is actually just 40 minutes away, you don't have to move on campus (especially if money's an issue for you). I commuted every year of my college experience (as well as throughout graduate/ doctoral programs) and I live 40 minutes away from campus as well. Especially since apparently you're quite upset with the fact that you need to leave the house for college... do you really need to leave everything behind when you start college?

4. "I always had the idea that I would start my own business and become first overnight billionaire." Yeahhh I think you needed a wake up call, one way or another. At least you still have options that can move you towards happiness and success.

Good luck!

haha

It takes me an hour just to meet my friends at a bar and they live in the same city I do. I once dated a woman who lived in another country. You'll be fine dude.

Moving to college is great. You get to meet a lot of new people.

Making your own company instead of inheriting one also sounds like a much more challenging task.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

To top it all off, my mom apparently got a call from the nurse's office from school today. Somebody complained that I stink in class to the front office lol.

Unless this was just some asshole who did this to mess with you, this is kind of a big issue. If your BO is bothering other people in the vicinity, that's a bit of a problem.

Go to college with an open mind and a positive attitude. If you go to college (or anything) with a shitty attitude ("I'd rather be somewhere else, this sucks, etc"), it will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. College is anything you make it to be, good or bad, and that's the same with life.

You should be relieved your life isn't planned out. Running the family business forever and regular grandma sleepovers sound dull as shit. I moved 5 hours away from my hometown for university and still kept in touch with high school friends and now live in a different country, 40 minutes is nothing.

Online courses are a terrible idea. You're like the sheltered protagonist at the start of a coming-of-age college movie who needs a shove out the door. Once you're out in the real world you'll realise stepping outside your comfort zone was the best thing you ever did.

Pretty much this. You need a kick in the pants. Your closeness to family is something to be admired, sleeping at your grandma's house is nice and I like the closeness, but you have to grow up a little here. You have to make new friends, enter a new environment, and make it. You have to do these things, because if you don't, life is gonna get really boring really fast. This will force you to make new friends, work on issues you have that others make issues of, and most importantly learn to cope in a system that isn't home. You'll be better for this, just find yourself a bit .

Shower every day and wear deodorant.

Okay let me break this down for you: this blog is so silly that I can't actually tell if you're trolling or not. If this is all serious, then man you have no idea what life is like beyond the veil of your small family interactions. You desperately need to experience things for yourself and make your own decisions.

You hang out with your grandma every week and think 40 minutes away at college is a long distance. Dude I used to drive 40 minutes to school, one way every day twice a day five days a week, sometimes more.

The funniest thing is that you call all these changes happening to you "dramatic". Man you don't know what drama is. You don't know what anything is. Go out in the world and make some decisions. Learn. It's important for you to realize that you don't know anything or have any experience.

If you're trolling then well, you're pretty good at it.

parents were separated when i was a kid, nbd but i had a good relationship with both of them
3/4 grandparents were alive and even 3/4 great grandparents
had my own house my father was able to buy with his business for me to live in while i was at school
--after

Don't go to college.

There are way too many kids who go to college just because "they're supposed to," and then they wind up wasting $$$ drinking away their brain cells and flunking out (or getting such bad grades that they actually put themselves in a worse position than they were in when they just graduated from HS). Take some time off, get a job, look at your life, and ask yourself where you want to go. Then get off your ass and start walking.

Why would college and family business have to be mutually exclusive? You don't think business school would be useful in managing... a business?

Also, moving 40 minutes away... the horror lol

There must be a lot of colleges near you if NONE of your high school friends will be going to the one that's only 40 minutes away. To put a 40 minute drive into perspective for you, I live in a city of ~85,000 people and it takes probably 40 minutes to drive between the 2 most distant parts of town in traffic. It takes me a little more than an hour to get to work on the bus every day. A 40 minute drive is nothing.

I assume you have had a VERY sheltered life so far because none of the things you described are even close to being dramatically life changing events. Go to college. You shouldn't try and live this sheltered life forever.

Also I'm sure 99% of the people reading this blog (including myself) would jump at the opportunity to have their college/university education funded by a family business.

Oh the pain of distance dating ^_^
Had the same problem, me being in the Netherlands and her being in China :p

Edit:

@OP:
You're complaining about 40 minutes to travel somewhere? It takes me at least 1,5 hours to reach my university each day, back and forth, in order to get studying. Hell, if it were only 40 minutes I'd do it by bike. You've got to drop the balls, become more ballsy and stop being so dependant on the family. They will never be around for an infinite time, so the earlier you learn to be independent, the better chances you get in later life.

Other than that...
Deal with it.

This blog is such garbage.

* Moving 40 minutes away and you can't keep in contact with your friends?
* Sleepover at your grandmothers, how much longer do you honestly thing you're going to be doing that? When you're 21? 25?
* Oh no, you don't have an already successful business to inherit, now you have to go to college and further your education to make yourself more marketable to future jobs. Woe is you?
* Your life has changed dramatically? No one died, no one went bankrupt, no one went homeless, no one is abandoning you. I'd say your changes are mild and boring compared to perhaps 80% of the population with actual problems and decisions to make.

Stop whining, go shower, and leave your comfort zone.
